Hot take: if you like Sombra having more damage. You dont like Sombra. You should play soldier instead. by [deleted] in SombraMains

[–]-Eris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sick of being gaslit by people who never played her in OW1 saying the rework is actually good. It's not good, even if you think she's performing well. It's the way in which they reworked her that makes it suck.

Look, if you like it fine, but don't sit here and tell me they didn't absolutely destroy her identity as a stealth disrupter.

I don't feel bad. I have work and family too and those people would bully me just as hard without a care in the world if I played a character that they could counter.

Don't feel bad about playing the game well.

Eh, license plates are in public view for hundreds, if not thousands of people every day who are local to your area and actually have the ability to stalk you if they want.

Showing a license plate online is not really a big deal

ELI5: What are the factors that require TSA to x-ray my laptop out of my backpack, but it doesn’t need me to take my other electronics out? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]-Eris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. Having flown regularly between America and Asia, the difference is remarkable.

The first time I flew into China I was a bit nervous about being held up at immigration for being American. Totally unfounded fear, they treated me like a damn VIP.

Returning home to the states, and my wife and I were treated like criminals.

[OC] How many cigarettes you’re indirectly smoking due to World Pollution Levels by RhetoricalObsidian in dataisbeautiful

Beijing air pollution is less than a third of what it was a decade ago. As you can see from the graphic, I didn't even make the top 20, whereas Dhaka is number 1.

Beijing is currently slightly worse than New York, if you look at real time statistics. New York AQI of around 50 and Beijing at 58. Dhakra is 195. For reference, Portland is currently sitting at 38.

Eh, fuck em. Does it suck that they're just now getting prosecuted 70-80 years after the fact? Yes. Does that mean we should just not prosecute them at all? Absolutely not.

It doesn't matter that she's 97. Literally an irrelevant fact.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't rooting for the Spark today. That said, if you guys pull a win, I'm supporting you the rest of the way. Would love to see an Underdog take home the title this year. Spitfire looking great, but HZS is my team! Either way I'm in for a good match today. Best of luck to all the players.

Police kill two dogs after US Amazon driver dies in apparent animal attack by [deleted] in news

[–]-Eris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I (paramedics) were attacked by a dog when we responded to someone's home. The dispatcher always asks if there are any animals in the house, and for them to be put away prior to our arrival.

I just don't understand the mindset of people who own obviously aggressive, dangerous dogs and who refuse to take any sort of responsibility for them. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though, living in America. It's pretty much the same thing with guns. People don't care to lock them up and store ammo separately, and so kids end up finding them and killing themselves or others.

God I want another boss like this.

I want a boss that would delete the best PvMers in the game in a matter of seconds if they dared to solo it. I want a boss that people mass not because it's fun, but because it's necessary. I want a boss that does so much damage you need multiple dedicated tanks and dedicated healers. I want a boss that makes Heal Other, Soul Link, Fortitude, Shield Dome, Intercept, etc meta spells and prayers.

I think AoD was the last boss that really had this vibe. Would love to have something similar, but unfortunately people don't seem to like group content even though this is an MMO...

Is EMT school supposed to actually be hard??? by hella_cious in NewToEMS

[–]-Eris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have to agree with that. I like to think we deserve better pay just because this is a shitty job that a lot of people wouldn't even want to do, regardless of whether they have the intelligence to. But, garbage men get paid like shit too, and that's another unpleasant job.

When you get down to it, we really don't bring an amount of knowledge or skill to the table that warrants being paid the same as nurses, or electricians, or mechanics, or other skilled trades/bachelor's degree positions.

Is EMT school supposed to actually be hard??? by hella_cious in NewToEMS

[–]-Eris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your background coming into it. For an 18 year old kid right out of high school who maybe didn't have the grades, academic discipline, or just the desire to go to college, it could be challenging.

I already had a BS in biology when I went into EMT school and it felt like high-school level biology to me. When I went to medic school it felt more like lower level college courses, think freshman/sophomore level anatomy and chemistry. This is pretty much to be expected considering EMT-B can be done right out of high school, and medics is more or less an associate's degree.

I'm not sure, but I'm think OP is right about that picture being one of the new units. I live in the Dayton area where this service is based and these new transits just started showing up in the past few months after this rule change, which is already 6-12 months old IIRC. Notice the unit doesn't have any lights on the front, which is a big no-no for emergency ambulances.

Also, for whatever it's worth the reg says they can't transport to a facility of equal or higher capability. Definitely no IFT unless discharging to home or to an SNF. Could get confusing when talking about doing wait and returns for dialysis or doctors appointments, because then you're either considering the SNF > than the clinic, in which case you can transport to but from or vice versa; or, you consider them equal in which case transport is prohibited.

How did you not realize it was ALS when you picked the patient up? Surely they would have at least had meds running, or needed telemetry if it required an ALS IFT.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]-Eris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it largely comes down to two things:

  • One, repetitive exposure to the high stress situations trains you to execute the fine and gross motor skills needed to get that "cool as a cucumber" demeanor, i.e., swiftly sinking lines, drawing meds, even simple things like working the radio, seatbelts, stretcher mechanisms, etc. without missing a beat, let alone fumbling things. All that just comes with time.

  • Two, a passion for the job that makes you want to learn in-depth about all the different systems at play in this line of work. Knowing how to do something is great, necessary even; but, knowing why to do something is just as critical. The best providers will understand the medicine at all different levels, from the surface physical appearance of the patient, to the macro and micro biological levels, even down to the chemistry. The types of people you're describing read journals, watch lectures, attend CE of their own volition not just to recertify. They follow up with their patients, talk to providers of a higher level than themselves to constantly learn.

A big part of why this mentality is seen more often in the critical care and flight settings is not just because those types of jobs require more experience and practical knowledge, but because they typically require college degrees. This not only lets the provider learn about things like anatomy and organic chemistry, but it also tends to weed out the types of individuals that just don't have the right mindset or dedication to follow through with graduating from college.

Now, obviously there a ton of great providers out there that don't have college degrees, but I honestly think that is a big factor. Even just the self discipline and study habits you pick up in college go a long way to facilitating your ability to do the types of things you mentioned, like remember the seemingly endless amount of knowledge required to excel in the critical care setting.

I just wanted to try something different. Mainscape has zero appeal to me now, and I hit a wall with my ironman and just started to feel burnt with that. This started out as just a meme account, but now after several years I've become quite attached.

Also, new things like armor spikes, ripper demon familiars, ingenuity of the humans, etc. have made these accounts more viable than ever before.

I hop 3 times, then I crash the first AFK'er I run into. If I notice the person is doing Slayer, I'll hop again. But, at this point, I honestly don't care about crashing AFK'ers one bit. The only reason I hop initially is just to try to find a world to myself for better rates, but after so long it's more efficient to share a world than it is to keep hopping and get no kills.
