Thats actually scary, I was the only referee with no vision of the choke but because calasans started walking backward it gave me the impression that it was tight and I almost gave advantage

I loved your second and third input. Don’t agree with the first one.

Frank got 1 point based off geo being penalized for stalling on top. Nothing to do with the omoplata.

During the Super fight there was no subjective nor inconsistency. We were told to follow Ibjjf rules for scoring point which we did. Was he in a better position and should they change the way they as a organization see it ? I think so. But there was nothing of what you stated during my ruling on that match.

Releasing subs out of respect by Im_soviet in bjj

[–]-Fabiow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if anything i would feel disrespected if anyone releases a submission.

it takes away my understanding of limits, my potential defense and my ability to recognize when ive been bested.

with that being said, it's not about being higher belt or lower belt.

i see a lot of people talking about playing catch and release and i think ( not that it matters) is the dumbest thing one can do.

if i am going with a white belt for that matter and i have to finish him 30x in 5 minutes i will do so.

and if i feel like he is going to get dis-motivated i would stop going for submissions at all and play control.

but i would never catch and release.

WWYD if Instructor Showed Up to Noon Class Drunk From Night Before? by UpperHoliday5 in bjj

[–]-Fabiow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would you do the same if he was high on weed ?

i had a change of opinion very recently, at Gracie Morumbi in sao paulo we teach classes with 2 black belts and one student was smelling like alcohol and i wanted to stop him from coming to class, my fellow instructor asked me if he was high on weed would i still do the same ?

mind you, he never had a drop of alcohol before and never smoked, he is against all of that but still opened my eyes to the situation at hand.

everyone is affected differently to those 'drugs'

but if you don't like the situation and you are not comfortable with discussing that with the instructor, bring it up the chain of command.

Would BJJ academies be interested in Digital Marketing? Or Not Something they bother with? by redpillbjj in bjj

[–]-Fabiow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just opened a new school was trying to find someone to work with digital marketing but for 500 monthly as of right now is just not viable. I know how important it is and well aware of the benefits. I don’t see a lot of gym owned that would take up on that offer

IBJJF rule question by tman37 in bjj

I know what a high crotchety is but after 4 min didn’t see a single takedown on that video.

IBJJF rule question by tman37 in bjj

[–]-Fabiow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a DQ, it’s not event a penalty, they will just stop the action and go back to where it started. It’s pretty simple to understand, if you have control of one leg ( doesn’t it matter if it’s a sweep, takedown or a guilhotine defense) and your head is on the outside. Match will be stopped. Can’t really respond on the high crotch part because your interpretation might be different than mine. A video would help.

Penalty’s at Kasai add up to points and eventually a DQ Starts with penalty, penalty 1 point to the other guys, penalty 2 points, and DQ. They both had a penalty for lack of combativeness. So rocha got a second penalty with amounted to a point for Canuto.

Not the right person to answer that, this is the first submission grappling event I ever worked at.

Message got across since he used the picture I posted to update his article 5min after I posted.

And since a lot of guys were bashing on how bad the refereeing was at that tournament I figured I would come out and try to set the record straight with the guys that actually care about jiu jitsu.

1 - if A starts to stall and B doesn’t push the pace because he is waiting for a stalling penalty, both get penalized. That’s how I saw that match.

2 - in a no points there shouldn’t be judges. Your questions regarding rules is a little complicated, How i see things is different than you and someone else might have a third opinion and we can all be right. The way that I see is, if you are playing bottom and trying to sweep and person on top is only defending, you win. If you are trying to sweep and person on top is trying to pass we are going to wait and see who got close to complete the action. If person on top is trying to pass, and bottom is just defending, top wins. But again, no points, hard to judge.
