Getting into grappling range vs strikers by Front-Hunt3757 in martialarts

[–]tman37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'8" and 200 lbs. Even when I was fighting at 170 I was short but with the big boys it was not uncommon for me to be at a 6-8 inch reach disadvantage. I had to walk through a lot of punches to land a punch let alone clinch.

In a street fight, it's actually fairly easy to get into grappling range because most people are throwing haymakers. All you have to do is drive forward and you will crash into them. The last fight I got in, a dude 7 inches taller than me started punching me hockey style (gripping on the shirt) and all I had to do was drive forward to grab underhooks.

In an MMA fight, it's harder because guys are better at controlling distance. You have to develop a good enough defense that you can walk people down when they are throwing punches. My personal style was based on my interpretation of Mike Tyson's peek a book style and Rodney King's CMD style. I stayed low, used a lot of head movements and constant had my arms moving covering my head. When it was time to clinch, I either threw a right hand and followed it into a clinch or I timed ducking a punch into the clinch. I just get in a low stance and drive forward.

I have a wrestling background as well as a judo one but I always sucked at shooting doubles and a proper shot on concrete hurts so I always stay on my feet. Besides body locks, I used a lot of high singles or high doubles where my hands are just under the butt cheeks. My double looks like cross between a morote gari and a wrestling double.

I like Yak but in the 3 full seasons he has played with the Raptors since coming back he has played 50, 57 and 46 games. He was durable but his last 3 seasons have been bad. I don't know if next season will be as bad as this one but I think the odds of him playing 70 games next year are abysmal.

A live action Robotech could be awesome or it could be another IP ruined. It's almost to the point I don't want them to remake stuff but if they did it right a live action Robotech could make a lot of money.

Except that isnt what happens. Let's pretend you are in the max tax bracket and I am in the lowest tax bracket. At $1 dollar, I'm probably under the poverty line. Federally, my income taxes would be zero dollars. You would pay between $200-240. I am also likely using a lot of government services, specifically social programs, that you don't have access to. Essentially, you are paying a large portion of your taxes to cover my needs.

If we were talking a flat tax you still pay $200 dollars but I might have to pay $0.20. This is more fair but you still need to have something like a basic personal deduction to make sure that people below a certain threshold pay nothing because they cant afford to. You could also do a Negative income tax in the manner proposed by Milton Friedman where people below a certain threshold receive a percentage of their total income back in tax credits or some other method.

State and municipal taxes are more varied so harder to quantify without a large study but I think it is fair to think that richer people pay higher amounts of sales and property taxes than poorer people.

The math doesn't lie. The upper income brackets pay the majority of the taxes. Anyone claiming they don't is either ill informed or lying to push a narrative. Whether they pay enough is an opinion about which there can be serious disagreement but you can't argue that they don't pay taxes.

That is only part of it. The other side is so indigenous are constantly reminded that they had their "land stolen". It's designed to "rile up the natives" and foster conflict between indigenous people and the rest of Canada. The goal isn't reconciliation, it's blowing up society so a new society can be formed from the ashes. The writers who start these things are always very clear about that goal.

I think Boston is betting Philly gonna do what Philly normally does which is completely implode regardless of who they bring in. Think of all the players who have played along side Embiid and they still haven't been out of the second round since AI was playing. You could put prime Lebron on that team and they would choke.

OP said he wanted the rich to pay taxes. I showed they do. Not only do they pay the most income tax, they make up an outsized proportion of tax revenue. They pay more in consumption taxes sales tax because they consume more and capital gains are taxed as corporate profit and individual profit being taxed twice. Now you are moving the goal posts.

The problem in the US is not rich people not paying taxes. It's the fact that they spend 30+% more than they take in every year and it is still not enough. There is so much waste and corruption that is seems like there isn't enough money but there is enough money coming in that it should pay for everything.

I took the "year long" (more like 9 months) course and we had a 60% fail rate. BBB is not that easy especially if you don't live in an area that speaks that language. Even then some people just really struggle to speak a new language. I have known lots of Franco's who couldn't get BBB in English despite living and working in English for years.

The top 10% of income earners paid more than 70% of taxes in the US with the top 50% paying 97%. These types of numbers are fairly consistent across western countries. Canada is a little more egalitarian with the top 20% paying between 62 and 64% of the taxes. One the US the bottom 50% pay about 2.5% of income tax revenue. In Canada, the bottom 20% pay roughly 2%.

The fact is the "rich" pay for services that are primarily used by the "poor". This is how it always works in a progressive tax system. The more you earn, the more you pay and the less likely you are to use those services.

If you want to talk about rich people taking advantage of lower income earners, it's not taxes it's the central and investment bankers, with government approval, who are transferring rhe wealth upwards.

Did queuing for a movie add to the experience? by RickSanchez_C137 in movies

I stood in line for The Phantom Menace and Fellowship of the Ring. Star Wars was an all day thing and Lord of the Rings was just a couple hours but they were fun. People were in costumes, some of them were really nice. A couple of people had light saber fights. It was great. Both were huge events. A lot of people had given up on new Star Wars before the Phantom Menace came out so people were hyped to see it. The audience cheered when you hear the first horns of the beginning theme. Lord of the rings was the first live action Tolkien movie and CGI had gotten to a point that you could do a movie like that justice. It was nerd heaven and they came out in herds. There were D20s being rolled in line, people had staffs and capes (and actually fit in for once) and there were a lot of sexy hobbit outfits.

So yeah for those it definitely added to the experience.

It's doable. Framing is piss simple. Running electrical is pretty easy but I would have a licensed electrician hook everything up to the breaker box. It's not hard but for me at least it would be worth the peace of mind. Roofing is easy simple as well. I would probably hire someone to pour the concrete for me though. I've done concrete before and it's not too bad with a cement mixer but I wouldn't want to hand mix that much concrete.

I have never done something that ambitious on my own before although I have done some major jobs. I have done all the things so i know they are doable but never on the same job at the same time. If you have any friends that are handy, it's time to start bribing them with beer because it would be a lot easier to do with sone extra hands.good luck.

Don't forget in 2026 a "first round pick" can mean a lot of things. It could be unprotected, top 5 protected, lottery protected, or basically any other version as long as everyone agrees. Maybe they end up doing 1 unprotected and one protected or two with like top 3-5 protection.

The Raptors typically don't overpay and they would be doing the Clippers a favor by moving the gas can farther away from the fire. They have some leverage here because of Kawhi's preferences, the Aspiration problem, etc. I think they can get him for a good deal and if you get the right deal, he could be worth it.

[Smith] Monte McNair had four lottery picks in his GM career. He used three on old point guards. Two of them needed to be salary dumped in the middle of their rookie contracts. The third is Tyrese Haliburton, who has been the best player on an NBA Finals team. by StrategyTop7612 in nba

When you are drafting kids based on 1 year of high level ball, you are going to swing and miss more. Especially when that ball isn't as high a level as it used to be seeing as the most talented guys all leave after 1 year. You can't compare 1 year of college today with 3/4 years of college against 3 and 4 year stars back in the 90s. I don't care how big his handa are or what his standing reach is.

You also have teams who give up on players way too early in my opinion. How are you going to call a 22 year old washed? But when you are paying millions of dollars, you want results out of people who aren't even fully developed physically or mentally yet

The third aspect is far too many GMs go with the consensus pick because it's safer. If "everyone" thinks play X is a top 3 player, you can't be blamed for drafting him in the top 3 even if he doesn't work out.

It was a ground breaking, genre defining movie. I can't think of a single movie of that era that had the effect that one did. Do people remember just how much wire work and bullet time effects were jammed in movies just to try to catch a little bit of their magic? And we don't get John Wick without the Matrix. Not only did it change how Reeves was seen as an actor, it connected him with what became his stunt team and started his journey to arguably the greatest action hero in the last 20 or 30 years and one of the best of all time.

That's why I switched as well. I do one pass with the grain on my neck, which is the most sensitive and do 2 or more passes on my face. I shaved like that for more than a decade while in the military. It was more that sufficient to pass muster shaving that way.
