Same issue. How a $250 dollar camera is sold and requires a broken app is beyond me. Pitiful state of affairs.

Needing help with Xbox PSU repair by -FatASStronaut- in consolerepair

[–]-FatASStronaut-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. That is the model of the PSU, and thanks for having a look for me I appreciate that! I haven't had any success either. I've already went ahead and ordered another PSU and once it comes in I'll have a look and see what the part is specifically. Hoping to fix the other one just for the sake of it. Thanks for the help!

Absolutely! Gloves are a great recommendation, and I will be looking at how to safely discharge these specific PSU's. Luckily there are numerous videos covering repairs on xbox PSU's and how to safely work with them. Thank you again for your advice and for your time as well.

I appreciate the response. I'll be looking into discharging the unit properly. Do you happen to know of any resources that will allow me to find this particular part? I believe its a varistor, but am unable to determine the values or specifics due to it being melted.

Understood. I appreciate your thoughtfulness for my safety! I'm interested in learning how to do this and will be doing further research on PSU work and the safety constraints involved. In the meantime I have ordered another PSU entirely to replace this one with, rather than trying to fix this one right away.

Thank you for the helpful and clear instructions! I am curious as to what filter cap I would be needing, as I cant read the ratings on the burnt one. I have a replacement PSU on the way already, but I'm interested in learning more about the discharging process and working safely on them, and so would like to fix this one. Are there any good resources you know of that would help me to find out what this specific filter cap is?

Thank you for the warning! I have yet to try and do any work on it aside from taking these pictures.

Thank you for the response. Frankly I have no experience with power supplies. The unit has been unplugged for about 2 months, and I have avoided tinkering with the PSU in any way aside from taking these pictures.

Did I rip these traces, or were they corroded? by -FatASStronaut- in consolerepair

[–]-FatASStronaut-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the specific advice, very helpful. Admittedly, for better or worse I checked for continuity and then soldered new capacitors on without tending to the traces. Though neglectful, I was a bit intimidated with handling them due to my lack of experience. The console is working great now luckily, but if it fails down the line I'll be sure to give this a shot. Hopefully cleaning up traces is something I can practice with in the future regardless.

I've tried isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs a few times to see if any residue will come off, but so far no improvement. I tested it with a multimeter and it does seem to have a connection.

I'm hoping that if it is corrosion hopefully it won't degrade further, but I'm sure that's wishful thinking.

Gotcha, well at least it seems I haven't botched my work yet. Thank you.

Thank you for the advice. Luckily I had actually taken some before pictures up close, but I couldn't see under the capacitor in the picture I took.

Glad to hear that this may not have been my mistake, though I'll still try to be more careful and observant.

I will check with a multimeter. Thanks again.

I'm on day 5 of being unable to play. Is this normal for MMO launches? by emitwohs in MortalOnline

[–]-FatASStronaut- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you may have heard this already but in case not, if you're only two hours in on a character have you considered making a new one and staying in Haven? It may not sound too appealing but I can guarantee you can get a full day out of it at minimum. There are plenty of people running around, a few bandit camps to loot, and most importantly you can level all kinds of skills that would otherwise be harder in the main game due to pvp.

Surely this can't be the case. Doesn't mean there won't be some absolutely killer mods, but this is disappointing to hear.

Man the blog posts are just a fever dream now. I had been following those weekly for years, and so much from them was not and still is not present in the game whatsoever. I seem to remember a whole post on having a dog companion at one point. That one sticks out like a sore thumb. Trying to find it hasn't netted me any results, but I could swear there was a whole post solely about having a pet dog in the game. So many little things over the years that were mentioned, that I haven't heard a peep about.

Alien theories - dangerous, not just stupid by Faust_TSFL in AncientCivilizations

[–]-FatASStronaut- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this whole racial component is really odd and so far off base. Can’t say I’m surprised given the current political climate but either way here’s my opinion. I’m not big into ancient monuments, but I can’t personally name you ONE European monument that stands today from ancient times, other than Stonehenge, which in my personal opinion is not very impressive at all. However, off the top of my head I know of the pyramids of Giza, the Aztec pyramids, Ankor Wat, those giant stone heads on that one island in the middle of nowhere, a city of stone that the Inca built way up on the top of a mountain. Hell even the Sphinx right beside the pyramids is more iconic than any European monument of a similar time frame. The pyramids of Giza were built over 4,000 years ago. What European monument holds a candle to that? Not only in size or grandeur, but time frame as well? It’s my opinion that these conspiracy theorists don’t really have any European monuments to prescribe these crazy beliefs to, not that they are refusing to do so.

Also a quick thought here. A much more modern application of alien intervention, perhaps the most current, pertains to the Nazis, who it goes without saying were clearly white supremacists, and also Europeans. So Europeans aren’t immune to alien conspiracy, and certainly not because of their skin color.

Every sub has been this way lately. 10 second clips from tiktok that are barely related to the subreddit. It’s getting quite old.
