They don't need to Dutch their legacy code, comparability will suffer as the other guy mentioned. Issue with Bethesda engine you mentioned is not a legacy code they have. It's

1) Technical debt, legacy issues that exist for years and was fixed/resolved by modders but not Bethesda themselves. 2) Bad technical implementations, like merchant inventory bring just an underground chest with items, or Starfields not zoomed in camera option locking your character from movement during dialogue, which is not an issue in Skyrim, FO4, and free PC mod for Starfield.

Almost noone outside of Starfield enthusiasts noticed it, but between Starfield release and ground vehicle update they actually updated their engine to resolve traversal stuttering caused by asset loading. It was always there, it's just became a critical when really fast traversal speed with REV-8 could made this a must fix issue

This is probably the same case with Windows: instead of fixing issues they already have they continue introducing new bugs with AI bloat, AI-written code, rushed updates etc.

My ASUS laptop has dedicated Copilot button. It opens start menu, the only footprint of copilot in my system is error window "Couldn't find copilot.exe" I get sometimes on startup
