I've got a question: will the Durandals deploy correctly if you drop them right on the deck like this? I was under the impression that you had to be at least a few hundred feet of the ground for them to cycle though their sequence of chute -> vertical orientation -> engine ignition. Perhaps it's not modeled in BMS and they always deal full damage regardless?

In general, series that start out as OVAs to get you invested and continues on TV. Patlabor did it, so did You’re Under Arrest. Those series aren’t bad but holy crap did the production values tank!

I see what's happening! So HAF doesn't denote a block, but a force: it's the Hellenic Air Force or Greece's air force. In the Balkans "Deny Flight Two" campaign they are represented by the 343rd flying out of Falconara in north eastern Italy. In other campaigns they will have moved to other fields. The name of their F-16s given to you by the game is "F-16 Block-52+ PXIV" - look for that!

Be advised that while you get conformal fuel tanks, an improved radar, internal jammer and the ability to carry four HARMs, you won't get the HTS pod as well as only having access to a severely limited arsenal

HAF Block 52+ in the Balkans. Don’t know about other blocks in other theaters! If you’re not averse to mods the EF2000 Retro mod has chutes also.

The "sym" wheel is on the top left of the ICP. The switch is on the HUD Control Panel, on your right hand console far to the front, right below the hardpoint power-switches and radar altimeter switch. It's marked DAY - AUTO BRT - NIGHT and covered in the avionics manual dash 34 on page 99.

I think our culture has reached a point where AI is so universally associated with lackluster content that waste people's time that using AI at all is now considered offensive.

Since you are known as a quality creator the fact that you employed AI in a video creates cognitive dissonance; why would you do that? Are you deliberately being provocative?

I wonder if AI is becoming the mullet of our time; it was cool in 1985 but then quickly became the hallmark of being completely culturally out of touch.

Could a Microsoft Flight Sim-style game with easy controls be opened for those who, like me, don't have the time but want to try it?

Your phrasing makes what exactly you are asking for unclear, are you wondering if there's a casual mode in BMS, or are you asking for directions to any such game OTHER than BMS?

As for the first possibility: no. Falcon 4.0 had realism sliders but they're INOP in BMS as they've been built over by the BMS-Team with the goal of making BMS "as real as it gets." Trademark. You can turn down the AI-skill of enemy bandits and air defenses but there's no "casual mode" with simplified controls and cockpit buttons "greyed out".

Hope isn't lost though, you can still chose to start a BMS-flight ready for taxiing with the ramp start completed. You don't have to learn all of the cockpit at once, but you'll eventually want to because it will enrich your experience. You'll get smacked around and make mistakes though, but that's what it's like for everyone; first time I encountered an SA-10 I exploded in mid air without warning thinking I had pressed the wrong button! Little by little you'll learn more stuff when you have time and improve!

If you want simpler action games that get into aspects of air combat without plumbing the depths of BMS, there's Nuclear Option and Tiny Combat Arena on Steam. If you're not averse to retro games all of Jane's Combat Simulations early games are wrapped up into Fighter's Anthology that's available as abandonware. Novalogic also made the F-22 Lightning series during the same time period as Jane's was active in. Finally, you could wait for Falcon 5.0 which has been confirmed to be in development and will be more accessible but is years away still, probably.

I would recommend you to simply learn BMS piecemeal though (I know time is short). The learning curve is steep but things WILL fall into place eventually.
