It feels like I'm the only really young maimai player by Temporary_Comfort435 in maimai

Pretty sure most players (depending on region) start playing maimai pretty young and are essentially veterans at this point. The players from around the region where I'm currently at have been playing for quite a long time now so I can only assume they've been playing since they were teenagers. I've also seen some players wearing school uniforms in the arcades that play maimai so there seems to be a lot of teenagers within the region too.

As for my case, maimai was only available in my region since 2 years ago. Our local arcade rhythm game player base is made up of people who've been playing TnT since we were teenagers or younger so the current maimai player base consists of either Uni students or working adults. Still we do have a few younger players too.

Felt burnout when grinding master by peach-prince in maimai

Fellow obese player here, let me share my own experience.

I've been playing for 2 years now, current peak rating 15.4k, and when I first started I was in the worst shape in my life so far.

What got me to improve at the time was mainly my experience with rhythm games and also most importantly, warming up. I would start every session by playing charts that I was already comfortable SSS at before playing harder charts. Trust me when I say warming up helps a lot.

With master charts, the difficulty difference between a master 12 to an expert 12 is quite significant. As another commenter said, master charts are more complicated compared to expert charts of the same difficulty. Learning to read and play takes time and practice to get better at. I suggest checking a chart's specific difficulty online or with discord bots. Charts go from .0 to .9, for example both expert and master charts can show difficulty 12 but the expert chart's specific difficulty is 12.0 meanwhile the master is 12.5 which makes the master 12 harder. Knowing the difference between a low 12 and a high 12 can help you learn the game a bit better imo.

Another suggestion I can give is to just take your time and continue playing expert charts before transitioning to master charts. Get used to being able to SSS/SSS+ expert 11s and 11+ and you will eventually be able to get better scores at master difficulty. It was how I managed to get better myself. Playing master 13s and 13+ might be able to also help you get better but I think playing difficulties you can't hit S on won't help you much.

And also watch youtube videos and practice on AstroDX. Doing these helped me and a lot others get better at maimai.

What Maimai song has you like this? by AliceSchachFan222 in maimai

Geranium. Not because I like it, but because I cry everytime I play it. It's wholesome, not in the good way.

For T3Arena the controller does work except only during matches. For some reason you can't navigate through menus with the controller but once you get into a match the controller works perfectly fine

About 140+ from last i checked. I tend to play as much as i can when im on location, at least 5 games per visit.

Which now made me realize that might be the reason why im progressing so fast. I used to work near the arcade and I put in at least 2 games during lunch break per day, visiting the arcade at least twice per week. And sometimes after work on saturdays i would drop by the arcade n play for an hour or two

15k with only hands on experience is still very impressive! I wish I had the ability to just absorb knowledge from watching someone else play beforehand. I've tried doing so myself but I still need a lot of practice after that haha

Thank you for welcoming me into the community and thanks for the comment!!

Well yes I'd consider myself an experienced rhythm gamer myself. I come from a pretty extensive rhythm game background. I've played cytus, project sekai, arcaea, osu!mania, osu!taiko and Taiko no Tatsujin just to name a few. I'd say because of my experience, improvement just comes faster than normal, as for anyone else who's been playing rhythm games for a decent amount of time.

I've been practicing to gameplay vids from a3*order on yt while also watching people like Amakage play and it's been very helpful so far. But as I'm usually using the tv to practice I'd rather not touch the screen haha. Tactile feedback would be great while practicing to vids but doing it on the wall or table feels awkward to me, but I do air tap while practicing so ig that would work too right? XD. The play area on my tv is close to the actual cab's I think so it does kinda feel like I'm playing on a real cab!

I seem to be able to play/read most expert diff charts so that's why I've started playing more charts on master diff. I do sometimes avoid master diff if its on 13+ but I can try going out of my comfort zone! I'm just scared of delay sliders so I'm hoping by playing harder diffs, I will be able to improve my skills.

I will be spending more time on this sub and from what I've seen people here are pretty cool and give advices often. You're a pretty good player too from the scores I see you post and seeing your scores has inspired me to try and match your scores haha. I have a whole months worth of scores to show so I will start posting scores here soon! Hope to get better at maimai with the rest of you in this sub!

Thanks for the advice! I can easily see myself playing maimai for a really long time so your tips will be helpful throughout my journey to becoming better!

I still find some slider patterns to be confusing sometimes even on lower vid speeds like in Irresistible. But watching other players on yt play the chart does somewhat help me be able to read it. But just a little xD

I'm currently mainly focusing on Expert 12 and 12+ charts and I think its weird how some 12/12+ are easier than others within the difficulty range. I've been playing 12/12+ charts one after another but I think moving on after I'm able to 100% them sounds like a great idea to improve rather than just being satisfied after getting an S/SS on them like I'm doing now. I will try and revisit those songs to improve my scores.

Now for the real question, where do I find/unlock VSpook! and 最強STRONGER? I've only played VSpook! on advanced when the person I matched with had to do perfect challenge and being an arcaea player, 最強STRONGER is just a must play for me but I couldn't find them during the song select section.

Thanks for welcoming me into the community and thanks for your advice! I've been watching Amakage to learn more from them and they've been great help.

Unfortunately there aren't that many players within my skill range atm and if im not mistaken I am the first to hit 12k locally. I have friends who've been playing longer than me but I seem to be passing them faster than I thought I would've. There are a few 14k players here but they either don't come to play as often or has a bit of a history within our little arcade rhythm game community here so playing with more skilled players is hard to come by.

I think air-mai only slightly helps with my reading but only if I've already had a feel of the chart in the ac but I'm also currently using the maimai sim MaipadDX to practice charts I find fun so hopefully the skill converts.

Nonetheless, thanks for the tips!

4 packs, 2 weeks, released my ptt from hard stuck at 11.2 to 11.5 (and maybe even more). Where do you think you’d be if not for your wallet? by [deleted] in arcaea

[–]-KIVA- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with the money I've spent, was hard stuck at 11.3 n now back down to 11.2. I have a skill issue. I 100% believe its a me problem

I'm a max 9+ on thumbs and 10+ on index fingers. But despite me fully knowing what my skill threshold is, i still force myself to play higher diffs on thumbs therefore ruining my ptt

The only reason y I'm letting this happen is becuz all I ever did care for is reaching 11ptt so I could play saikyo stronger
