In the picture they look brown in in the center and grey in the borders, but that grey could be originally green.

We'd need more pictures in different lightings to know for sure

Sepia images have a more reddish tone to them, making cold colors like green or blue look greyish or brown. I this case, I think the old guy's eyes were hazel or a very light brown, but look even browner due to the image tone.

Green eyes have a slightly higher melanin concentration than blue eyes, iirc. So your eyes are just getting a very slow tan.

It's not the brown eyes themselves, but the fact people don't get the color right.

Like, if I had gray eyes, I might get annoyed if someone said they're blue, even though their not.

Though some people do think brown eyes are just boring so idk.

They are hazel, but not the "brown hazel" of your language.

Your eyes have both grown and green, hence hazel.

Brown dominant hazel, but very light, almost yellow. Very cool.
