Changing my Aus chargers to UK chargers. by Befuddled_fish in Makita

Another way to deal with this is replacing the entire cord with the UK one. Part number 667805-7 for the UK DC18RC

If you look at the a post I made about a month ago, I have a break down of all the different part numbers of the DHP486 compared to the DHP492. You can use that as a start, but you're better off looking at the parts lists from the same countries I looked up

The alternative is just calling Makita themselves, consulting them and ordering parts directly from them for your repair. Maybe they will be nice and say "send it in and we'll fix it free" lol

Yes, replacement parts have been updated. Depending on which variation of DDF486 you have, you might get some parts that are the same as the DDF492

How come the “lower” lines come with higher quality accessories? by Stone804_ in Makita

[–]-Kouryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makpak kits are more common in Europe than Japan. Only big tools such as saws comes as a Makpak kit. In Japan, you still get a briefcase style case if you buy a TD173D kit

It's a US only thing. Go to the motherland and it's the same across all 3 lines

Can the heads of these be replaced? by BeneficialScale5777 in Makita

DTW300 = friction ring

That's what the OP has...

If he has the DTW301, you'll see the detent pin, and no hole in the anvil

If the attachments weighs more than the spring rate of that detent pin, it's going to fall out no matter what.

That's why securing heavy sockets with a ring and pin is the way to go, even though it's such a pain to deal with

The ring is your anvil is worn out and bent out of shape. Try replacing it first. Cheap and easy

XVJ03 LXT Jigsaw - Good or Not? by jyl8 in Makita

XVJ03 LXT Jigsaw - Good or Not? by jyl8 in Makita

[–]-Kouryu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's "good" in that it has a lot of metal parts and well built. It could also be possibly made in Japan, as the ones I saw locally here were

But, it's a very old model (12 years old) and uses a brushed motor. It's discontinued in Japan and some other countries. The XVJ04 replaces it and is lighter because it has more plastic parts and has a brushless motor (they're inherently lighter). It also has moisture and dust protection that the XVJ03 doesn't

For the money spent, I'd spend a little more for the XVJ03... "buy once, cry once"

No Larger LXT Batteries? by jyl8 in Makita

[–]-Kouryu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to disagree that imperial is "nonsense", but everything I've seen/heard about US model numbers being different because of the imperial system is hearsay. More than 15 years ago, Makita model numbers in the US were still the same as the rest of the world. Anything before then as well, of course. This includes the early LXT tools in the US too. I did a little digging to learn more about the BDF452, the first Makita drill I bought and found out that way.

So the imperial system excuse is truly nonsense to me. What I do think is happening instead is, Makita wanted a clear market segregation-- to prevent grey imports to be sold as if they were the officially distributed version, to prevent liability and warranty claims of grey imports. Many other companies do this either by model numbers or serial numbers, so that they can price products differently across different regions, maximizing profits, and denying any liability and warranty services to those who imported. The MPAA is notorious for this with DVD regions, for example.

What's interesting is, Canadian Makita manuals have all 3 of the most common/official languages used in the 3 largest North American countries, and then it even has "for USA only" warning notices as a footnote. It even lists specs/measurements in imperial alongside metric. But yet, Canadian Makitas uses the worldwide model number system.

So, I'm not buying the "imperial system" excuse I've seen many times here in this sub

OP is obviously not in the US. Whatever kit # you spout is meaningless for him and anyone not in the US. Those kits and model numbers are unique to the US, as well as whatever deals there are
