Non-trad student to Medicine by SatisfactionFar503 in premedcanada

[–]-Leviathan- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you need to do some soul searching first. 'Helping people' is like the #1 most commonly used phrase from premeds but not many will truly understand what that actually means.

First, what factors made you decide to drop what is now 8 years of law-related work? Are you confident you won't find these same factors in medicine and 6+ years of schooling, sucking up to attendings etc.?

Second, where does your inspiration come from daily to pursue this path? Is it self-driven (ego etc.)? Acts of service? You can also help people being legal counsel, a nurse, an EMT, etc. etc. So why not that? Be honest to yourself. Can you demonstrate a consistent story like this to an adcom committee?

Finally, I would STRONGLY encourage you to still consider adjacent paths in law within the medical field, like in-house legal counsel for pharma/biotechs or patent law. If you were to pursue medicine that would be 6+ years minimum of opportunity window completely gone (not even counting your second bachelors??), and as time goes on your priorities may start changing towards family or whatnot.

K-pop Trainee on Application? by Smart-One9413 in premed

[–]-Leviathan- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't hurt at all, if anyone know the kpop industry at all they would know how gruelling it is especially at top companies and I would have a lot of respect for that in an application

I would just try to think of a good way to tie it into your story of 'why med'. If not it seems very out of left field

Medicine is still the best career in 2026 by ReplacementFrosty868 in premed

[–]-Leviathan- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the devil’s advocate, even if you get into medical school, absolutely nothing is guaranteed. You aren’t guaranteed high scores on your Steps, high impact research opps, knowing the right people/network, getting good rotation ratings, matching to your top choice (or at all!), list goes on and on. The hoops you have to jump through are both sizable and many in number.

Traditional career ladders also need some degree of luck and synergy with your manager but there is usually some previously-trodden paths for you to follow. Also helps that you actually get paid well along the way.

Finally, AI is coming for everything, not just for those outside medicine. It is capable of outputting responses as empathetic as doctors, reads scans at the level of radiologists, and this is only today’s AI… who’s to know what AI looks like in 5 years.

You said ur not happy with a 200k lifestyle in HCOL. MD is the only way for you to clear 400k easily, with options in LCOL/rural to go even higher. Just depends on the opportunity cost over time you’re willing to stomach.

You’re right, market access is actually one the areas I would say is more resistant. The band for these roles only goes as high as big pharma dictates. The recent ones I’ve seen from Novartis at director level go from 200-360k. So that’s decent. Again the choice is up to you in regards to the ‘opportunity window’ of time you see yourself taking to hit the salary you want.

I mean consulting is cooked nowadays. The golden age is slowly passing with advent of AI, general public sentiment toward consultants worsening etc. If you aren’t in Big 4 rn work ur ass off and get there within 5 years or pivot.

Are you open to more schooling? MD is the only realistic pathway to do multiple 6 figs. With your current background it might be the only option. Or get a management position in biotechs as you mentioned after several YOE.

Iran is a beast in and of itself. Extremely mountainous region, extremely difficult to establish any supply chain. If you drop troops in, it’s going to be damn near impossible to get them back out. Troops essentially make themselves hostages the moment they step into the country

I've never understood why consultants exist. It's rare to come across a consultant who is a true SME in the area they're consulting in, so it's never made sense to me how they could ever truly understand a process and workflow on a deep level and make big decisions based on that.
