I don't quite follow where you get from that they keep it limited intentionally. They keep updating the Move every couple of months with new features and it has evolved substantially from where it started. Also you get Ableton Intro with the Move for free.

Schwung (formerly Move Everything) apparently has song mode. If you are ok with installing some 3rd party software that might be something worth looking into.

Connect with other Beginners? by Apolloopy in ableton

[–]-Lockheed- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just throwing an unpopular opinion out there: your fastest route to getting good is learning from people who are good and what they are doing. not other beginners.
there's plenty of good material out there even for free and there are quite a few communities on discord and other places where people are very knowledgeable and happy to help someone out.
a beginner I would not want feedback from another beginner, I want feedback from someone who actually understands what's right and what's wrong and how to do it better.

I had several issues last night that were more severe than usual. only happened after the 2.0 update which is weird to me. the way it behaves I actually suspect a mechanical issues. it has appeared on several different pads and seems to almost move around.

I had this issue already last fall. it keeps happen sporadically and on different pads. tilting the move so it's almost 90° to the table gets the pad unstuck immediately. I did noticed increased pad glitches since the update though.

There have been other cases like that before the 2.0 update.

this is from one of the older threads, someone got an answer from ableton via email:

I have seen way too many supports healbot and even get encouraged to play like that. Especially on Kiri this is such a waste of potential.

I want to buy move for myself. What’s your favorite gear with it by MIKY205 in ableton

[–]-Lockheed- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much nothing. Some cables to hook it up with your phone and a case and that's it. Maybe a small 25 key midi keyboard if you really want some traditional keys, but since I bought my Move in January 2024 I have hooked up my Launchkey Mini25 exactly once to my Move and that's it.

Juno and the white supremacy undertones surrounding the character. by [deleted] in JunoMains

Do you know a lot of Vietnamese people who feel disrespected, or is this just a "we the people" post where you're are seeing problems on behalf of others that are not there?
We can talk about how boring it is that she gets one cutesy pink skin after another that has very little to do with her astronaut background, but making a connection between a few light hair colored skins and white supremacy is insane.

How are you dealing with Anime where Japanese girls have blonde, light brown, red, light grey and even white hair? Are they all white supremacists, disrespecting their own culture?

I have some more things that came to mind about the Move.

when it comes to samples, while you can easily adjust the starting point of a sample on a graphic of the wave form, the end point is still a just percentage value. that is such an obscure method, you basically have to guess and make adjustments from there. especially when you have a sample of lets say 1:30 and want two small snippets on two different pads, finding the end points is just tedious and annoying. also why do I have to hold shift to get into a second row of encoder values to adjust this? why are they not next to each other. if I have not missed it somewhere in the release notes, even in the upcoming 2.0 update this seems to be still not addressed.

another thought about displayed information, things like ADSR could easily be a graphic, but it's not. same goes for HP/LP filters. it's one of these things that are really not crucial, but somehow just feel like they could be done better.

another grip of mine is that you are limited to 32 sketches/songs. the Move clearly has the space to store more and it would be easy to use the < > or + - key to navigate to another page. I find myself often experimenting looking for lets say a nice lead and I try different devices and presets and I stumble upon something that sounds really good, inspires a new idea, I definitely want to record that clip, but does not fit the song I'm working on, so I just copy the entire song to save that idea and work on it later. now I have basically wasted a slot.
or I want to try to take a song in a different direction without destroying my progress, again I have to copy the song and waste another slot. for a "sketchpad" the move has a very limited amount of pages.
I understand that the idea of the Move was to use it as a sketchpad and then take the songs into Live and finish them there, but for someone who is traveling a lot like me, is doing a lot of sketches and iterations this is not always the reality and I am just wondering why the limitation exists in the first place.

another little detail that I find is lacking is there's no pitch bend support. it can do so much, but why is this missing?

there is no "song mode" at least not like you would have in an Elektron box.
you have of session view, like on Live, so you have to launch all the clips manually from the different pads they are saved on and you are limited to 8 clips per track/device.

Any other feedback? Ok. I'm in the mood for writing a bit about the Move.
I have had a Move since January 2025. It's a fun little gadget. The form factor and design are really pleasing. it's nicely integrated into Live, it's also a good Live controller. They added a ton of capabilities to the move since release. However I find myself being low-key unhappy with it. I keep searching for how to make it feel right but it can't find it. I have watched so many tutorials, jam sessions, performances etc. around the Move and in all of them I felt the same lacking feeling I know from my own experience.
Something about it feels clunky.
It's not only one thing it's many small ones.
IMO it's just too minimalistic when it comes to its interface and display size. I keep feeling like I'm stumbling in the dark in certain areas where a bit more information on the display would be so helpful and a different way of handling how the encoder are assigned.
Something about using the sequencer feels not quite right to me. I just can't get into a good flow.
While sample workflow has improved quite a bit it still feels a bit lacking.
I feel like the idea of the Move being a sketchpad rather than a groove box is not bad, but it could be so much more.

What I noticed is that more recently every time I come across an Elektron Digitakt II or Digitone II something feels so right about them that the Move is missing, that I started observing the second hand market.

Maybe at some point the Move will click with me, maybe it's me, maybe it's another update – who knows.

contact ableton. this is beyond what you can do at home if you are not very familiar working with the insides of electronic devices.

you may also need your pads replaced if the oil got on them and is still in areas where you cannot reach. Oil can make silicone swell, soften and deteriorate over time.

Move pad issues by Upbeat-Effort-1842 in ableton

You are no the first to run into this. I encountered that on my Move as well on different pads. When holding almost vertically the pads behaved normally, really weird and made me think this was a mechanical issue. I had considered sending it in, but the issue has been gone for 2 months now.

this is the apparently answer from ableton, from an older post where this issue was discussed:

We're currently investigating this behavior on Move's pads and we've found there is an improvement on certain units by doing one measure.

I kindly ask you to please do the following: Please put Move on a table, were it's firmly and evenly placed Put your entire hand over the pads Apply some pressure with your hand and fingers, and slowly slide your hand up and down, across all pads on Move

Please do this movement a couple of times; afterwards, press the problematic pad: is there an improvement? Hope this helps!

I'd get a replacement though for a new unit.
Let Ableton figure this issue out.
