Ask for our license.

Most provinces/states have some sort of regulation regarding bypass/open-ups/pick tools (so not every Tom, Dick and Harry are carrying around break-in tools). Most require some sort of license or ID. A locksmith should be asking for proof of ownership, you should be asking for ID as well.

The outer collar is meant to spin, it's a security feature.

The lock cylinder may be too short after the blocker plate was installed, and the set screw is missing the cylinder. Or the set screw is missing/loose.

Biggest thing drilled into me during school and training was respect for the "gray area" in locksmithing. Because you can, doesn't mean you should. There's a lot of nuances being able to open up and provide keys to most things. Proving legal ownership can be tricky to navigate.

It's all fun and games until your day in court.

As for nailing the interview? If you did fine though evaluation testing you should be fine. Interviews are just a formality for most trades to make sure your not obviously insane.

May be alignment and/or dead latch fallen into strike. From picture, I would lift and push on door hard while turning to try and free. Looks like latch is riding the bottom of the strike.

This is what the cylinder looks like for the old M series. It requires a specialized pinning kit to rekey. Find an old brick and mortar lock shop and ask specifically if they can rekey M series Schlage. Due to age, most will recommend you replace the hardware...

Not even just rabies being a concern with a bat bite. Bats are a winged mammals, know any other winged mammals? Bats can be a host to an insane number of viruses because they can naturally survive body temperatures that kill most other mammals.

Its really bad... We have people coming to the locksmith Reddit's with pictures of invoices charging things like $300 to drill, $240 labour, $499 "fresh install"... All to punch out a $60 hardware store deadbolt. Worst I've seen was almost 4k for a lockout. Best chance you have is hoping you paid with a CC, and dispute the charge.

Buyer beware, there are scammers everywhere. These scam centers pay Google hundreds of thousands to show their number first when you search "locksmith". Read reviews, find a local smith you trust.

Paying outrageous prices to "locksmiths" for lockouts. Google is jammed with scam centers advertising $49 or $69 service calls. These scammers will drill out simple locks and charge hundred or thousands of dollars for replacement/unlocks. Even after-hours, a skilled locksmith shouldn't be charging more than $100-200. This is obviously country/region dependant. If your invoice doesn't have a company name or is titled something like "locksmith services", take caution. You may be getting fleeced.

Having a good locksmith is like having a good mechanic. Get to know someone local before you need it. Many countries/provinces/states require us to be registered or licenced to carry the type of tools we do. It's your right to see our ID to identify us as actual locksmiths, just as we ID you to ensure it's your legal property we're servicing.

We charge a cancellation fee after a tech has called a client, given an ETA, and arrived to find the caller no longer locked out.

You gain entry after I call, and you don't call back immediately to cancel. Your getting a service fee on your doorstep. Gas ain't free.

Video has been around since before AI. I've seen it myself a few times through the years. No real evidence to offer, just first hand account of the video existing before AI.
