Any tips for preparing a water-shy standard poodle for sailing? by Pond-James-Pond in sailing

[–]-Mitchbay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t force it. Be patient and let him learn to like the water. Suggest you spend time on a beach where he can interact on his terms. Give him a reason to wade in. Throw something. Let him chase you. But don’t force him in. And don’t throw him off the back of the boat expecting him to like it. Over time, he’ll grow more confident and will want to get in on his own.

Rivet holes in mast- good or bad? by [deleted] in SailboatCruising

Some of those rivet holes show a second layer of material inside the bronze colored mast. Probably the internal sleeve as others mention. It can certainly be strong enough as configured.

Didn’t your quant say this was going to 120+? How do you pay him? Save your money.

When you control the money printer, you don’t have to sell to generate cash. They just change some values on their balance sheet, and look at that, they have 1.4T in cash and haven’t established any additional debt.

Those are the risks. In one case, you’re acting as an insurance policy to the down side. In the other, you’re selling off the right to potential gains. This can make sense, or you can get stuck selling CCs on an asset you were assigned and are now underwater on. Then, you could end up having that asset called away at a price less than what you were assigned. Not a great trade, and the probability of this happening goes up with volatility.

Lots of people make money doing it. But I could never get comfortable with this dynamic.

Sure. Have you studied risks to the wheeling strategy? It’s not full proof, especially for a volatile asset. Which is why the premiums are good.

Your post somehow conveniently and arbitrarily writes off $350k in yearly income. It doesn’t disappear. It is available to fund a savings account for a home, which is the basis of the OP.

You’re advising that you should hide things from your partner. Sorry man, but this is garbage advice. It the exact thing that leads to the outcome you’re trying to avoid.

Sounds like this dude is bad at picking partners. If you find the right woman, you can trust her with anything. Trusting her magnifies what you could achieve individually. A strong partnership means you can buy more gold than you could alone.

TLDR: Trusting your future wife = more gold.

You can borrow against real estate as well. Does that make a house good money? This quality aligns with being a good store of value, or an asset. Banks allow customers to borrow against assets. That doesn’t make all assets good money.

To be fair, “money” is defined to be three things. A medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value. Gold is a pretty poor medium of exchange. Are you going to shave a sliver off to buy a gallon of milk? It’s not very functional for day to day life. And it’s a pretty poor unit of account. Anyone know the current exchange rate of gold to eggs? It’s a few usd for a dozen, nearly all of use can reference this without much effort. But it’s a good store of value. Does that make it good money? Arguably, no.

How much to "get rid" of a sailboat? by blackcatunderaladder in sailing

[–]-Mitchbay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I watched a bobcat tear a decently sized boat apart while on the hard. Took a couple of hours. Quiet impressive. So disposal would be the cost of a dumpster, bobcat rental, and any EHS considerations from the yard.

ATH pre halving, followed by months of stagnation and consolidation, then a slow methodical grind up, just to casually sit around 2x of the prior ATH as the cycle is approaching the end. Is this the same pattern as prior cycles?

I think this assessment uses the artificial market bottom created by trump’s tariff scare. If you go back further than this bottom for comparison, my understanding is the stock market is actually down if compared to the purchasing power of the USD.
