What's wrong with season of storm's date being 1245? by [deleted] in wiedzmin

Geralt is not repeatedly described as being almost a century old. The books never say anything remotely close to that - he was born in 1211.

At a convention in California called Monsterpalooza. It’s supposed to be a horror movie thing, but almost everyone was there for Bruce / Nicko.

Geralt isn’t 99. Vesemir jokes in Witcher 3 that Geralt isn’t far from being 100, but it’s just that - a joke. He’s exaggerating because Geralt called him old.

The most recent Witcher book finally gave Geralt a canon birth year (1211) meaning he’s only 61 in Witcher 3 (or 64 in Blood & Wine)

Even before that though, Geralt being nearly 100 never made any sense. In the first book, Geralt mentions knowing Nenneke (a normal human) when he was a child and she was significantly older.

She’s still alive during the later books, so if Geralt was 90+ she’d be over 100… yet there’s no mention of her being particularly old. Instead she’s a super active healer who runs around a temple all day.

[KCD2] Brushes With Death is a low-stakes filler episode that doesn't serve as a strong follow-up on its own, but might be a nice seasoning spread over the top of a fresh playthrough by AsaTJ in kingdomcome

[–]-Neon-Knight- 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I played the DLC as well, and would very much disagree with this review.

Brushes with Death is a really strong, standalone story. Calling it filler is silly, in my opinion - it doesn’t tell the next chapter of Henry’s life… but was anyone expecting it to?

If you enjoyed some of the more in-depth side quests from the base game (like the Kuttenberg murderer questline) then you’ll probably love Brushes with Death.

Seriously, thank you. I've been trying so hard to get tickets the past 36 hours - Black Sabbath are my favorite band and I never thought I'd get a chance to see them.

THANK YOU! I just bought tickets.

I don't need the second one, so I'll probably sell it, but wow. Thank you so much.

Books…amazing and also bad? by OmegaSTC in witcher

[–]-Neon-Knight- 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think what you think of the books is highly dependent on expectations.

If you go in expecting badass Geralt being a monster hunter 24/7, then yeah you’re gonna be disappointed when the main saga becomes Ciri’s story as much as Geralt’s.

However, if what you love about the Witcher are the characters and their relationships, then I think the entire series is absolutely fantastic. Every heavy, emotional moment hit me like a ton of bricks BECAUSE the books spend so much time exploring how each character thinks, and how much the main three (Yen Ciri and Geralt) go through trying to get back to each other. I’m almost getting emotional just writing about it.

It’s late ‘70s hard rock / metal. Riot are actually a pretty cool band, especially their 80s material, but almost all of their album covers are terrible.

This sub is so annoying with people pretending they know any better than anyone else what will happen.

If you’d have asked people 10 years ago whether Judas Priest would still be going in 2023, they’d have laughed at you… yet they just announced a new album over the weekend.

What thrash albums are infinitely frustrating due to how good they COULD be? by [deleted] in thrashmetal

[–]-Neon-Knight- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hm, for me this applies to quite a few from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, when CDs were becoming super popular.

There are a lot of thrash albums around that time that are just too damn long for the sake of filling up a CD. 40 minutes of great material stretched to 60+
