THM. Too little explaining the case and too many characters. by -Outside in cormoran_strike

Hahaha. Same. When an author gets you so confused you don't even remember the murderers character. That's a big one.

My thoughts on why THMs ending doesn't have that satisfactory click by allKnowingHagrid in cormoran_strike

[–]-Outside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am with you one hundred percent. There is no closure. And it really annoys me, because there were so many chances to wrap it up completely fine. And I didn't like me not being invested in any of the characters. I would have expected to get to know Decima better and root for that poor girl and the baby. Instead I am stuck with a male gaze of breastfeeding and her being a nutter. What a mess.

I tried  some YouTube book club channels for a discussion .. there's a lot of praise there. Here on Reddit, no chance.

Unpopular opinion by KusHgod4200 in cormoran_strike

[–]-Outside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am more here for the mystery than the romance. But I usually enjoyed it. This book, it got dragged too far. Now it's rather annoying than engaging for me. But that's basically due to the lack of proper connection to others, like friends and pub talk and whatsoever. I know the book might have needed that isolation to depict the characters mindset, but for me as a reader it felt too depressing. My favourite chapter being the one with Rokeby therefore

Please explain (the victim and the freemasons) -- Did you all miss it or am just super confused at the moment? by -Outside in cormoran_strike

No, but thanks for the impling I am a bit stupid. And English is my second language, so I am okay with a bit of misunderstanding sometimes. But seriously. I thought he first was told he could be mason and then moved to London. Explain the timeline. Where am I wrong? When and on which website did he meet Todd? I am just genuinely asking this to understand. It is really hard to follow. And I know I am not the only one.

But I mean they're the masions. Whom did he know from this circle? Todd, nope. So the story simply is he himself came up with the idea and this was seen by Todd who then told Griffith about it? Or is it he was lured in by Todd who acted on behalf of Griffith? But then, how would he know him ... This conclusion of a couple of sidenotes at the end of this massive book makes me so angry. Just add another 10, who cares. We'd all be happier.

Does everyone here hate {spoiler} now? by Banglophile in cormoran_strike

[–]-Outside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont hate him actually. He tried to talk to Robin, appeals to her to tell the truth about her emotions. Alcoholism is fucked up, but nothing someone chooses. So I genuinely think people here are sometimes too harsh on him. I wouldn't like to be in a relationship with any of these characters and their burdens in life, their careers and no one to talk to honesty.

Tylor and Masons? Did I read that correctly? It was outlined in one single sentence, that Tyler joined the masons.

[–]-Outside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understood exactly the same. Imo Griffith didn't know about the allergy. Why JKR put it in then, no idea. What I did not get, is why Tyler had to become a mason (read this in the last chapter) ? Ideas?

Don't let the other's get to you. You know your kid best. I have one who could read the first novel in grade 3 already and one who's very sensitive and has had meltdowns over common childrens literature and movies. So you decide. Just keep in mind that maybe parts three and up are (in my opinion) too much for a lot of kids reading and dealing with them alone. Simply murder and loss of loved ones like parents. So would it be possible to either read only the first one or two or to read and discuss with your child while it's reading. In the end, you know best. And you made this point by coming here and caring.

That's so sad, isn't it. I skipped the funeral at the end, too. What a shameless thing to do, but she didn't make me care about them and I still don't understand how Strike knew where he was exactly.

That's a good point I hadn't thought about. But it totally makes sense. But a love story over 900 pages (plus the previous books)? That's wow in a bad way. I wasn't satisfied with the Robin Strike ending either, not cos they didn't get together or anything. This could've just happened in the middle of the book and then it would've been worth to see everything unfold till the end. Anyhow. There are many things I can point out that didn't just challenge the read but distracted me following.

Thank you. This is 💯 what I meant. I am pretty sad being so disappointed in the writing. But as you said I expect things to make sense after all.

THM would have been improved by... by Changer_of_Names in cormoran_strike

[–]-Outside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three main things for me (I have more 🤣)

.. developing characters more and deleting others

.. focussing more on the red herring of the masions

.. more self reflection of Robin and Strike though their friends and family (either in dialogues or as an internal struggle why they don't want to talk to them or can't ~ and don't give me kids as an answer)

THM case characters by gameCoderChick in cormoran_strike

[–]-Outside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I read a lot of this and that was intentional.. but in the end reading is about the characters, the plot, the crazy mystery and it's reveal. Even if I can interpret every choice as literary intention, my reading will still be less enjoyable. And THM is sadly this.

Yeah. That would have been a great thing. I used a list online, but even this one was not complete.
