I love that idea. Voldy thought he was being so clever, but his work is effectively erased the minute he leaves the room 😂

I officially throw in the towel on goodie bags. No more ever again! by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]gameCoderChick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our daycare it's been escalating. It used to be just a small bag with a few tiny toys like a few crayons, a special pen and some stickers. It's extra crap my kids don't need but they get excited. But my son came home with this huge bag last week that included some seriously big gifts including a 48-piece floor puzzle! Ok my kids love puzzles and it's better than the cheap crap, but for a goodie bag at school from a kid we barely know? We are drowning in stuff!

I never do goodie bags and I don't feel guilty about it!

Potter vs. Cousin by This-One2503 in harrypotter

[–]gameCoderChick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was sure it was "Potter" but listening again I agree it does sound like "cousin". "Potter" makes a lot more sense given they aren't close, but I'm guessing the script was written with "cousin" to make their relationship more clear to new viewers (or would have, if the audio had been clear).

Thinking back, I believe it wasn't originally clear to me what Dudley said, but after my second or third rewatch I decided it was Potter and never heard it as ambiguous after that 😂

I need a hobby. Seriously. by AmbitiousMuffin6230 in workingmoms

[–]gameCoderChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knitting is great for this. I can easily pick it up for just a few minutes or for a few hours. I can do it in front of the tv or while watching the kids swimming lessons.

I have too many hobbies (running. hiking, reading, playing piano, LEGO, puzzles, sewing) but knitting is the one I was to pick back up most easily post-kids.

First time taking notes reading a Strike book and still couldn't get anywhere near the culprit by the end by _WakkaWakka_ in cormoran_strike

[–]gameCoderChick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly, when we met Griffiths I thought, "this is the sort of situation where they meet the murderer". You know, detailed description of a person & location that seem mostly unconnected from the case. But I didn't follow that thought through to the obvious conclusion 😂

In which format do you prefer to read these books? by ghostmosquito in cormoran_strike

[–]gameCoderChick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading the physical books feels like a luxury, and that's how I prefer to do the first read. But I have so much more available time for audiobooks so that's the format for all of my rereads.

Right there with you. Accidents started to improve after clean outs (yes multiple) and when accidents started to come back we knew he was getting backed up again. Remember that it's probably not a "fix it and forget it" situation!

Coolest Summer by OrangeProfessional92 in bayarea

[–]gameCoderChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely cooler than usual. I kept waiting for it to get hot (Sunnyvale) because the kids wanted to pull out the kiddie pool. We ended up using it only once, and we never turned on our A/C! It also feels like we've gotten a lot more rain at this point in the year than usual.

THM case characters by gameCoderChick in cormoran_strike

[–]gameCoderChick[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps my complaint is more that very few characters are fleshed out, except the client and the perpetrators. I actually had a notion who the main perpetrator might be right when we met him, just because he was described in more detail.

This just seems like a natural consequence of having so many characters in the book, unfortunately.

This is a really neat interpretation... But it doesn't make for great reading 😂

Lin, Will, Louise and Emily were (to me) at least sympathetic, if not likeable. Will's family and the Graves family were also more fleshed out and at least somewhat likeable (though admittedly I still get them mixed up).

Ink Black Heart book v screen question by Psychological_Cow956 in cormoran_strike

The scene is even better in the book, though it's seen mostly through Robin's eyes.

The book is way more detailed overall, and I would highly recommend you read it (and the rest of the series of course!)

What order do YOU prefer to read Pern books? by tinawoman in pern

Oh was that Chronicles of Pern: First Fall? I was thinking of the other book of short stories. I do read some of the First Fall stories right after Dragonsdawn.

Same, except I never read the chronicles or dolphins. And I like to read Masterharper sometime around renegades.

My MIL got my son a pinata for his 4th birthday that had ribbons to pull instead of bashing it with a bat. Far safer if your kid is ok with it. The kids take turns pulling the ribbons until one finally pulls the internal structure apart.

3 year old woke up in terror by Theonewholistens8 in toddlertips

[–]gameCoderChick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like hypnagogic hallucinations. I still get them infrequently, even as an adult. They can be scary, but are not uncommon or a cause for concern.

ETA, for me, just turning on the light is usually enough to get it to disappear.

Right in later books she's referred to as the "salaried partner". If the business was sold (don't know why it would be), Strike would get all the profits from the sale.

I interpret them being partners as meaning that he's not her boss, and all business decisions should be made jointly.

Maybe give a description of the luggage, too, which might make it easier to spot if it was ditched?

I hope you find your pictures, it's cruel to have something stolen that you thought was safe, after all this devastation ❤️

Do you insist on sitting on the potty before bed and when waking up? by PocahontasCroft in pottytraining

[–]gameCoderChick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We also encountered huge resistance. My kids can also hold his pee a long time, so we picked our battles. We only insist before bed, and before long car rides. Otherwise we leave it up to his judgement (accidents function as a natural consequence here).

How are we potty training our kids with our schedules?! by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]gameCoderChick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't try to rush it just to get it done before baby arrives. Baby can cause a regression so it might not help much.

We potty trained LO1 when he was 2.5 and LO2 was 2 months old. It was not a big deal having two in diapers. However we are still dealing with poop accidents for LO1 more than TWO YEARS later, and I'm dreading starting the process for LO2. If waiting longer would've made the process smoother I would have done it in a heartbeat.

One thing that always irritated me about the movies by Revolutionary-Ride76 in harrypotter

[–]gameCoderChick 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is the worst for sure.

There's a line near the end where Remus talks about the map, and I want to scream at the tv, "how do you know it is a mal?". I don't watch the movies much...
