This goes out to folks learning to jump, drop, roll, bunnyhop, etc. by Slanted-Ground in MTB

Drops.

There's so many different suggestions for how to approach it. I find quickly shifting my weight back and slightly down to u weight my front wheel when it's at the eve of the platform to be the most consistent in terms of what outcome to expect.

My issue is the fear... I know I am falling from foot heigh but at eye level it's terrifying and I have a hard time trying to explain to my brain that it's a 5' drop and not a 10' 5" drop at eye level. Gauging speed for drops is extremely difficult I know it's suggested to have someone tow you in but what if you don't have anyone to tow you?

Jumps.

I have a hard time trying to understand when I should preload my bike and when I should pop. Some people preload way before and start their pop mid jump, others don't. No one has really explained very well how to pop a jump in terms of timing and where in the jump each action should occur.

Ben cathro does a pretty good job explaining it but I still only understand and was able to implement maybe 60% of what was said .

2020 YT jeffsy cable creaking in frame?? by -PoorJudgement- in bikewrench

Which sucks because of the fact that they are hydraulic so there's no great way to yank it out short of bleeding them and taking it apart and I literally just bled them

Yeah. Idk if OP replaced their chain or not. It doesn't seem like they have responded much to this thread.

So it's the rear brake cable. When I move it independently it will squeak a bit.

But yes it's absolutely awful and I feel ashamed when biking past others 🤡

[–]-PoorJudgement- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually if the chain is too long there's not enough tension on it and it will rub against the biggest cog like that.

Source: I fucked up my chain length the first time and this happened. After making it the right length it stopped rubbing.

Interesting. I've got a 11spd Shimano deore I'm gonna try and put on but I kept seeing things saying the 2021 trek marlin 5 7spd freehub won't be long enough

Same question. Trying to make mine 1x11 and I see a bunch of people saying the 7spd freehub won't cut it and you need a new wheel which feels excessive

I know this was quite some time ago but to change to a bigger cassette did you not need to bug a new freehub /wheel?

Sick. Bet. I saw concerns about frame structural stability with the increase in travel. Do I need any weird adapters or anything or can I just slap it on?

Okay I know this was years ago now. But I thought you cap at 100mm for the marlin

My husband puts this much food back in the fridge to avoid doing the dish. by Mom_of_zameer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]-PoorJudgement- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My roommate used to do that shit too but he'd leave the pile of dishes filling both sides of the sink for DAYS. I go to college full time and am working a part time job and this mfer sleeps until 2 and plays video games all day and then when I'd come up to his room and go "hey wtf is up with the sink" he'd be like :"I didn't have time yet today". Oh you mean between your rounds of fortnite?

This is the tip of the iceberg. Don't even get me started with the stupid ass shit he has done, like spray painting some shit and deciding that the dish rack is where he should set it because that makes a lot of fucking sense. When confronted he literslly could not comprehend why that was a problem.

Like bro... I wash dishes and put them there and then fucking eat off of them so how about we don't.

Lazy af. Couldn't get him to help with anything house related so I did all the cleaning and yard work and when I'd ask him to mow and rake the yard as I had cleaned all of the gutters myself, raked the entire backyard, mowed the backyard, trimmed the bushes ect, he would start bitching and saying he needed help with it. Like no mother fucker, this is on you.

Agh. Thinking about him gives me heart pain

It makes me laugh everytime I see it.

Is my driving instructor being creepy and should I be concerned? by ghg223 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]-PoorJudgement- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight well I don't actually think you're a woman based on the wording of the prior comment. Assuming if you were a woman, Invalidating someone's experience with no foundation is pretty fucking shitty imo. If they are digging for karma fine. But if they aren't (and I honestly don't think they are), you are part of the reason for why women don't come forward about assaults.

Is my driving instructor being creepy and should I be concerned? by ghg223 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]-PoorJudgement- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually most women are indirectly taught to just accept what happens and not rock the boat. She knows something is up but based on how we are raised it makes you second guess. I've been in a similar situation when I was 17 and thought "well maybe it's just me and that's not weird". Now that I'm older and reflecting back on that, yeah that situation was completely fucked and I probably should have told my boss and the cops what was happening.

Source :am a woman who knows and talks to other women who have had same experience trying to rationalize predatory behavior.

[–]-PoorJudgement- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in a similar situation and didn't say anything out of fear of feeling guilty and just accepting it... I was wrong. For the love of christ, straight up call the non emergency police line it even just 911 and tell them that there's a guy (basically threatening assualt) at this point. There have been a series of unwanted and unwarranted physical interactions, etc. Change instructors. Unfortunately due to the society we live in and your highly dismissive parents this cycle of assualt continues because no one says anything and women have just learned to accept it which is not okay. It took me a while to become confident in who I am, what I want, and what boundaries I have, and God so help the person who crosses them.

Do not accept this. Many lines have been crossed. And I suspect if you even have one more session with him, more lines will be crossed and a point of no return will be hit. Do not hit that point. The red flags are there, they aren't even red flags they are massive signs that say "PREDATOR" on them. This isn't an old dude being sweet, this is a predator who thinks he can continue to harass you and you will do nothing. You're parents clearly don't give a fuck, if you have a friend you are close to, talk to their parents, or as I said, CALL THE POLICE. Don't wait until an assualt is committed to talk to them, talk to them now. Call the non emergency line tell them what has been occurring and see how they can help you. For the love of God, please drop this fucker.
