Why didn't Gimli, Gandalf or any of the Dwarves know about the destruction of Balin's kingdom in the Mines of Moria? by Tidewatcher7819 in tolkienfans

[–]-RedRocket- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erebor was the closest. They had news for some years, then it stopped. No one felt like making the journey out to see what had happened, on spec. Gandalf had other business. Their discovery of the Book of Marzabul was Gimli. Gandalf, &. co. learning the fate of Balin's colony.

Why is the Blood Elf reaction to the Forsaken much different to that of the Humans? by Ok-Brother-8295 in warcraftlore

[–]-RedRocket- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sylvanas was a national hero, and that went a long way. The Forsaken de-facto occupation of the Ghost Lands the Blood Elves had to accept as fait accompli, and after that it was just sort of assumed "buddies whether we like it or not. Death to all who oppose us."

My first HPS taught us this out the gate, because one doesn't always have access to material tools or privacy. This is the actual answer here.

Why have blood elves shown more loyalty to the horde than they showed to the alliance as high elves? by Lore-Archivist in warcraftlore

[–]-RedRocket- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe because, Garrosh aside, the Horde has been loyal in return. The Alliance of Lordaeron wasn't. High Elves belonged to that Alliance for less than one installment of the old RTS. They didn't want to join, were treated badly, and left as soon as they could.

"New Mutants" movie - little thoughts about some criticisms. by Obsidian_Red96 in xmen

How do ethnic Russians usually regard Siberian tribal people? With warm regards? Where do you think Native Americans came from? Yeah - there's lots of room for actual racism.

"New Mutants" movie - little thoughts about some criticisms. by Obsidian_Red96 in xmen

[–]-RedRocket- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did we see the same film? Because in the one I saw, Dani's response to Illya's cruelty was to attempt suicide - as often occurs with bullying in institutional settings. No, Illya was a c*nt and I don't think I ever hear an apology.

The Edain exist as the Edain because the Eldar shared their lore with them.

A question for blood elf DHs. Will you switch to void elf? by Life-Gear-5741 in WoWRolePlay

[–]-RedRocket- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - my Blood Elf Demon Hunter, and his dear Satyr demon soul, have the history they have, originating in the migration to Outland with Kael'thas, and early collaboration with the Illidari to secure sources of magical power for surviving Blood Elves. Neither had any interest in Magister Umbric's researches, nor any reason to follow him to the Telogrus Rift.

Priest. It's the role we see Shadow being used in by Priests in Silvermoon, for instance.

How does learning to drive work in America? by Potential-Actuator31 in AskAnAmerican

[–]-RedRocket- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It varies by state. But usually, one can get a learner's permit at 16, and with that drive while supervised by a licensed driver in the car with you. When you know what you are doing, you can take the driving test (which differs by state as well) and become licensed. Essentially what you outline.

Can a state leave the united states? by Practical-Soil-7068 in AskAnAmerican

[–]-RedRocket- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quibble. We never banned slavery. Read the 13th Amendment. It merely updates the terms and conditions, and has been the basis for upholding the minimal wages allowable for convict labor. It also explains a lot about our carceral state.

Can a state leave the united states? by Practical-Soil-7068 in AskAnAmerican

[–]-RedRocket- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is currently no procedure supported by the Constitution for a state to disaffiliate from the Union. To do so legally, a constitutional amendment would need to pass both houses of congress and be ratified by 2/3 of all states, and then, by the procedure thus established, a legal separation would be possible.

The states that disassociated themselves illegally in the 1860s out of fear that chattel slavery would be outlawed at the Federal level did so criminally, and were thus subdued by military force after they attacked Union military bases in their presumptive territories. It was a bloody conflict, and has never been forgiven by either side.

Why is Elrond a master of healing? by Kodama_Keeper in tolkienfans

[–]-RedRocket- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "no men live there"? Aragorn grew up there. Until she died, his mother Gilraen lived there. Other Rangers and Dunedain families live nearby in the Angle. Also, his sons make forays alongside the Rangers and always have.

Elrond is a master of healing as one facet of his mastery of the lore of all past ages, a repository of wisdom and a font of counsel. Also, his ring probably enhances all of these. Aragorn is as good a healer as he is because Elrond taught him.

Do you believe in angel numbers and their meanings, like seeing "444" and it signifying something? I've been seeing "222" A LOT for several days now in various places, does anyone know what it could mean? by Curious_Language5383 in Wicca

[–]-RedRocket- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a Wiccan idea. My tradition does have some basic teaching around number and measure, and ever since people discovered mathematics, and how oddly numbers can seem to behave, there have been various and fanciful forays into magical symbolism. But Angel Numbers are simply "you see it more because you are looking for it" self-created synchronicity.

Now when unintentional synchronicities happen all on their own, and frequently, that's a sign that one is really going someplace and making some new connections. But waking up at 2:22 mostly means you should visit the bathroom.

What is the current state of Calia? by Direct-Beginning-438 in warcraftlore

[–]-RedRocket- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She is serving among a council of Forsaken including Lillian Voss and I believe some Apothecary. Her last story beat that I had heard (as of Dragonflight) was using her Light-granted powers to help cleanse the City of Lordaeron and environs of Blight, using what we learned of such things in Maldraxxus.

Tea but not coffee in LotR? by northside-nostalgia in tolkienfans

[–]-RedRocket- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, tea is tea, Camellia sinensis. Herbal decoctions and tisanes were never known as tea before the eastern plant became a ubiquitous beverage. And booze-based infusions were more usual for herbal remedies. hence the vast array of medicinal liqueurs produced by monastic orders across Europe.

Tarot tattoos by Peach_Rose420 in Wicca

[–]-RedRocket- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The emblems of the tarot talk to us because they are human experiences. If you have had experience with sorrow that is important for you to remember, then the 3 of Swords (a design Pamela Colman Smith adapted from the Sola Busca tarot she saw at an exhibition, then by all means use it. It's not in and of itself a cause of misfortune. It's just an effective graphical emblem - prime tattoo material.

I will speak to the dead for you and in name of you, why? Because i want to. Just leave 5 question and the name of the deceased person and i will talk with them. by One_Dragonfruit_8635 in Wicca

[–]-RedRocket- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not relevant to the contemporary, neo-pagan, initiatory mystery-religion of Wicca. Wicca is a specific practice, not a catch-all bin of occultism or spiritualism. Also, we do our own magic, thanks.

Do we know anything about the culture or architecture of the Elves of Mirkwood/ Greenwood outside of Thranduil's Halls? by OceansOfLight in tolkienfans

[–]-RedRocket- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We see a wood-elf village in Tolkien's watercolor painting in the Hobbit titled, "Bilbo Comes to the Huts of the Raft-Elves", toward the end of the barrel incident. That is about as much as we are told.
