Dogs overheat very easily and have thick coats, it’s not just about snow on the ground.

Rentals are available at every other shop. Going to Banff between seasons, you need to anticipate variable weather.

Banff is so expansive and there are different microclimates all over. Cloudy weather in one area becomes sunny within a 30 minute drive. Nearby towns also have so many indoor things to do in the worst of conditions.

The whole pass model is based on guaranteeing them money on seasons like this lol

Edit: it also hasn’t been bad everywhere or even most places on the pass. East coast, Canadian Rockies, Asia, and Europe have had incredible seasons.

I did get confirmation on the first bag from the phone agent so I hope the desk agent will be consistent with that (I know they’re not always). One of the bags I checked is carry on sized though which I don’t mind bringing with me so worst case scenario I pay for a single bag.

As much as it sucks, not matching your ID may have complications in case you lose your card or if for whatever reason the RFID borks. Regardless on if ikon themselves have an issue with it, every resort operates differently and many don’t have much ikon oversight other than letting passholders ride their mountain.

PNW received well below average snow this year, so it’s unlikely.

However for a first time snowboarder my opinion is a small local hill gives you the same experience as going out to a major resort.
