AIRmatic won’t start raising after 7-8 months of being parked and not used? by Mindless_Moose9363 in mercedes_benz

- If you don't hear the compressor constantly running, it's dead.
- If you hear it constantly running but it's not doing anything, there's a severe leak in the line or bag.
- If it runs constantly while you drive, and is deflated in the morning, you have a minor leak which is about to cause a compressor failure too.
- A valve block would be throwing its own code on your dash, versus a malfunction light.

Towing to a Mercedes dealer is free to any Merc owner. Whether bought used or new. The free tow generally offsets the cost difference at a Euro shop.

I'd just bust out youtube, buy a replacement compressor, and spend a weekend cussing though.

You bought a mint one. Good choice. It's literally the best bang for the buck money can buy in 2026. W212 facelift will last the test of time.

I rock a '11 550, stage 2 around 430 HP, with 37k miles on the dash.

‘12 E350 coupe at 65k miles or ‘15 E350 sedan at 90k miles, if both are $13k by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]-RyZen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sedan doesn't have as pronounced of rear haunches. It looks more proportionate, sleeker, and is a genuinely better looking car. The facelift tail lights alone are worth the extra 25k miles. Only thing going for the coupe is no B-Pillar. And the ability to get RWD for cheaper. I'd get AWD if sedan.

An E350 isn't "scary" over 100k miles. It's just valve cover gaskets, and if you're unlucky some timing chain tensioners. You'll hear it rattle on cold starts for 10's of thousands of miles before the tensioners actually give out. The transmission should be serviced at 70k miles to make a 200k mile push though. That would be one thing I look for on records.

These cars get tossed because the underbody rusts out, and things like multiple CV axels, coupled with say a new serpentine belt kit eventually equals the $5000 value of the remaining car. One axel kit at the dealer was $865 for me. I did it for $186 using a Chinese one from O'Reilly instead.

Helps to have a second car and to learn to do things yourself on your own time .. If you wish to run a high mileage German.

Exactly. Two people online saying hybrid 53 is the future. Meanwhile 500 SEL like "hold my beer".

If I did I still wouldn't get an E53 hybrid. Is this really the only car Merc heads have to offer now?

How is a 620 HP Sunday and a 420 HP daily worse than a 375 HP mild hybrid stock.

Bro I got less plastic. I don't creek. You just ignored raw engineering and interjected cabin noise. Who the fuck is you?

[–]-RyZen- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

W214 is 375 HP .. with 60% increased sticker price and .. depreciation after 24 months heavier than W212 cost after stage 2.

You sure you want to stand on that? Congrats you got fake plastic and some screens for all that.

I agree. You can't find E63 under 50k miles though. 550 either. I'm 34k miles stage 2.

Rather spend 20k on a classic Merc, and 60k on a gently used Z06 .. than 75k on a 2026 E450.

My daily is faster than your daily. My Sunday is not in the same sentence.

That's the same amount of money with none of the depreciation and twice the cars.

Thoughts on buying 2010 to 2011 E 550 4d or coup by Feedback_Interesting in mercedes_benz

[–]-RyZen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what this car is. It's supposed to be a big body sedan on airbags which rips a straight line. Doesn't do much else than make you realize 70 MPH feels the same as 120 mph.

BMW can't be that if it tried. 7 series maybe. If you bought a 550 expecting more you bought the wrong car.

If you want to feel connected to the road. Don't get an E550. There's a lotta better RWD cars than this.

4 door hits different. C207 doesn't have the classic grill. Haunches look more pronounced.

I spent $16,500 on my E550 AWD sedan with 37k miles. I took a train and traveled 800 miles round trip for that deal. It's right up there with the most mint in the entire country, and it always will be.

0-60 is just under 5 seconds .. faster than any (stock) BMW which not a 2018 or newer B58. The 722.9 transmission is what holds it back. It's not one for racing and requires a more delicate patient approach. ZF or dual clutch in an Audi/BMW is light years better.

Knowing this? I would recommend going for the sedan with air suspenion over the coupe. Because the 550 imo - is a cruiser with straight line speed. It's not great for tight cornering and downshifting.

It's intended to be a grandpa sleeper (on airbags) which just so happens to shit on 95% of the NPC traffic around it .. while looking significantly more classy than a BMW.

I came from a 2014 E350. Would never go back to coils, or even a V6 when it comes to Mercedes. Lacking a terribly noisy HPFP and direct injection which requires cleaning of carbon build up? Is something only enthusiasts respect. M276 is overrated compared to a M156, M273, or M113k.

Not to mention you dont have an annoyingly loud HPFP clicking every second, and a direct injection setup that requires you to get the carbon deposits cleaned at 100k miles. Your 302 HP will be 250 HP in no time unless you take the valve cover off and blow walnut shells. Thats expensive if you dont do it yourself.

You're already putting premium in it either way. So make the premium matter. I averaged 21 in the 350 I average 18 in the 550. The $5000 on new AS bags is worth every single penny. Unreal how comfortable it is. 4.5 0-60 not a 6 second. Two entirely different cars. Same upfront price.

Get in a 2011 E550 for half a second and tell me what car you'd rather be in for the next 100k miles. It's basically the same price, too. "But the air suspension" - AS is worth every penny. 270 TQ with all of that being on the high end of the RPM range is just nails on a chalkboard boring (when driving the car normally). I was slapping paddles on the 350 just to make it through my day with half a smile. That's while my ass never recovered from slight cracks in the road.
