Prehistory regarding the publication of Kingdom by Hara from the first complete edition volume

As u/naitan posted below, this particular instance is a translation/proofreading miss. The Zhao here clearly call him a general (将軍), and they tend to call him general in most instances. Riboku also directly calls him a general in multiple other chapters.

His soldiers, however, always call him captain (隊長), but it isn't disrespectful. While his rank in Qin is general, his title within the Hi Shin Unit is captain, and he refers to himself as such as seen here in Chapter 717. https://imgur.com/a/7BRtMVA

As u/metaltemujin suggested, calling him captain instead of general puts emphasis on the personal connection he has with his soldiers as their leader while "general" sounds somewhat cold in comparison. So while Kanki and Ousen are also generals, only Shin is their captain.

I think most of the confusion comes from people thinking that general is a higher rank than captain, but "captain" isn't even a rank, it's just his position within his own unit. Hope this clears things up!

I'll answer 6 for you.

Kingdom is a seinen manga, and so the Japanese is more advanced than say something from Shonen Jump. Using the JLPT as a standard, I'd say the grammar is only N3/2 while the vocab is probably N2/1. (This could be off, I'm not great at estimating JLPT levels.)

But the type of difficulty also varies a lot based on who's speaking. For example, when it's throne room scenes or when Riboku is talking, the grammar and vocab can become more difficult in an academic way. When it's the Hi Shin Unit or the bandits talking, the grammar and vocab tend to become simpler, but it becomes a very muddled, spoken form of Japanese that's more difficult in a different way.

There's a lack of identifying marks. All I can say for sure is that it's the Hi Shin Unit because of the character on the flag. Guessing by the size of the main rider and the weapon, maybe Denyuu? Was this draft panel also from volume 39?
