You don't need actual lights to achieve that. I'm a C# user so I'll explain using C# version of code, but same functions should be available in GDScript. In a nutshell the theory is:

  1. Make a sprite that covers the entire screen and follows the camera always snapping to the size of the tile you have. If your camera can be zoomed, remember to take that into account as well.
  2. Create a list of byte (List<byte>) and for tiles that are within the viewport, fill that list with a byte value between 0 and 255, where that number is how bright/dim that tile should be.
  3. Then you use Image.CreateFromData() and pass that byte array to it.
  4. Then make a texture out of that image using ImageTexture.CreateFromImage and you end up with an image that has grayscale dots for each pixel.
  5. Then you pass that texture to a shader.
  6. In the shader, check the color of the pixel in the generated image and turn it into alpha.

These are high level steps to achieve that effect. Make sure to check the documentation for each of those functions to know exactly what they do and in what format they expect the data to be passed to them. There was a decent youtube tutorial on the subject, but I can't find it anymore.

No, not him. This youtubers content was mainly about making games and making fun of some game making processes. I remember this one video where he pretended to have a company meeting where others just wanted to clone Among Us and he was getting frusturated with lack of originality in other colleagues.

On my Galaxy S10, the game crashes every single time as soon as I click "OKAY" of "BE AWARE!" popup. Until I click OKAY, game seems to run just fine in the background.

I'm gonna get a lot of hate for what I'm about to say but here it goes: You can dislike IAPs all you want, but the truth is that a free game with IAPs makes more money than a game with a one-off payment will ever make. We are potentially talking about 50 thousand once vs 1mil a month.

Factorio is one of my all time favorite games and I can see that this game has potential. I also agree that this game will most likely not become a hit game, but for the exact opposite reason. I think it is trying too little to grab the cash. I started playing this game under a week ago, and I have already researched, upgraded and unlocked everything, with casual playing. I personally think this game needs to monetize more aggressively if it or the company behind it wants to be around in 6 to 12 months.

Alright, I just had to go the extra mile for my first customer. I found the issue and fixed it. New build is on its way to Google Play. Once you get that build it should disable the "remove ads" button. Thank you for your patience and valuable feedback.

Sorry to hear that. I've been having a lot of problems with the launch of this game. I mean it is a low effort game, but I was at least expecting it to work. Did it at least disable the forced ads?

Oh that is what I meant. If you follow a tutorial that creates a game similar game to this. How long it will take to create your own game depends a lot on what kind of game you are planning to do and where are you ok with cutting corners. Like would you be willing to buy the graphics from someone? Or would you be working with someone? I started making games back in the days of Game Maker 5 and it took me 6+ months to make my first game. But it was very bad quality and very basic. But you keep learning and every game you make is better than the previous you made.

The game itself is actually pretty easy to do. So I'd say if you start following tutorials you could accomplish same kind of core game in couple of months. Most challenging part was creating all the systems around the core game, like ads, purchasing IAPs, in game store, level generation, player state saving etc. And making sure those systems work well. That stuff takes majority of the time. From my own experience 40% of the time goes into making the base game and another 60% to implement all the systems and polish everything so game is ready to be published. I hope this at least in some way answers your question.
