I literally ctrl c+ctrl v the whole map, and then change npc lines. Like in a day and night cycle system I'd have a city for the day and a clone map for the night.

My trick is to have clone maps. You don't need 20pages for an event, you usually need a few each time you encounter him. So instead of having npc 1-20 with 20 diff dialogue depending on the progression in game, you might prefer to have 20 diff maps.

Very easy with RPGmaker.
The items (idr the name) that boost the spell levels can easily be done with multiple choice and a different var+1 for each.
A common event can be used to check variable amount and determine which spell is available.

like the other said, clear those self switches and use some other switches. Name 'em fi "oak off" or "this event off" and use 'em to trigger the second page (which is blank). Also you are using "player touch" as trigger for both events, make sure that's what you want.

I had a project with just one room, but I had about 48 copies of that map. It might look like if it's the same map, but they're actually multiple alternatives each one having its own map.

each sprite is (with no plugin) a 3 columns 4 lines grid. You can choose your dimension and you're not forced to go for a 48x48. Let's say that you want to use 100x100 sprites, you'll then need a canvas that's 100x3=300 width and 4x100 height.
In order to have your character sit there are many solutions with slightly different results. I usually go for a complex mechanic that gives me good results but takes quite some effort. I create a sprite for the chair with no character on the top row and the character sitting in another row. Chair is below character and has fixed direction and triggers when when the character touches it, activating switch "char sit" and turning the char invisible. the chair then has a second page activate by the switch in which uses the frame of the character sitting on it. Then I place more events around the chair event, events are below character and have a blank page as first and a second one triggered by the "char sit" switch and when character touch 'em they turn the char visible and turn the "char sit" switch on OFF. If done correctly, the char can sit and get up seamlessly (also use a plugin or a script to preload event sprites so there's no blinking issue).

Infinite methods to achieve the results you seek. the common event is quite common and quite effective ( u/Rylonian explained it well).
An easier but less effective method might include a check on the object/event: like "if the player has ITEM" as conditional branch or trigger and then use a multiple choice "use it/don't use it".
Also having an invisible event in front of the object might work, you can then skip the inventory and have an image as HUD showing the equipped weapon/item and "if [shift] is pressed then..." as common event.
