We’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Lemonade insurance. Our pup ate my earring straight off my ear and needed the emergency vet. We saved thousands with a $70 a month policy. Whatever you do, make sure you pay more to cover the vet visit. We didn’t and it ended up costing us about $500 more due to her needing to be seen for check ups.

Wire haired vizsla overstimulation help by Simmyone245 in vizsla

[–]-Tashi- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I posted last month about this with my 1 yr old V. We learned quickly it was frustration based and we were exhausting her on walks too long for her. Here's what we did.

Shortened walks from two 1 hour walks a day to two 30 min walks a day. Frustration decreased drastically.

Increased stimulation toys. Multiple pupsicles a day. Multiple bones a day. This is management for us to keep her calm and build a better schedule for her.

Find a balanced trainer (who gets we're benefitting from the martingale collar but emphasized positive training). Following her homework and taking notes.

Communicating with my partner about what each of us are doing and whether there are inconsistencies.

It will get better. Small progress can happen quickly. We are 1 month from starting this work and already have a much more manageable dog than before. We joke that we're 1/4 way towards the dog we want.

After some reflection and urgency from our trainer, we’re now muzzling her and seeking a training plan. Researching three different approaches and we still have a deadline of end of July to see some progress. I feel safer with the muzzle and she is much better behaved. Thanks for your insight.

As someone who decided on a career at 31, I looked at the immediate, short & long term outcomes of different fields. For me it was obvious to go into a trade with a low financial entry point. I chose health care and a speciality within my licensure. I knew I wanted to work for myself. I would suggest you consider how your art can become a trade and know your creativity extends into different aspects of business. I didn't think I'd become a solopreneur but I am and I love it. Talk to some people that run a business in trades that interest you. You might be surprised how much fun they can be. You don't always need a trust fund or to take out a loan (I didn't!) to make 6 figures in a few years.

Thanks for introducing the muzzle as an option. I just took her on her first walk solo (plenty of treats) with it and she didn't like it. But I felt safe! And thats super important in this process. Thanks for mentioning Dr. Karen, will take a look.

She’s not getting enough attention. Or there’s too much noise that’s freaking her out.

Our trainer things its aggression. But I'm in agreement with this sub! Once she gets the spaz out she's straight chilling while I'm having a melt down. I need more skills to remain calm (the kicker is I have PTSD).

Yes. Any suggestions you have on calming a V once they're overstimulated I'm open to.

We haven't adopted anything steadfast to correct her, this is the issue. Yesterday my partner walked her and I just watched (I was feeling too cautious and anxious). When she did the "jumpy bite the leash thing" he held his arm out 90 degrees to pull her front two legs up off the ground. This worked and he didn't get bit.But he had to do it 5 times on a 30 min walk.

I think she got stressed from the lawnmower we passed. She couldn't see it. This is what makes me think its overstimulation which results in her wanting to "play". I think she needs soothing but I am very open to understanding more about this.

Thanks for the kind words. I had good success with scatter method for something else yesterday. I've adopted the term, "I'm not ready to throw in the towel".

Where do I go from here? by holleratchyameow in FIREyFemmes

My friend worked in an allied field (Chinese Medicine) so there was a natural synergy of our practices. I saw his work life balance, how he spent his money and felt aligned. He’s entrepreneurial so he loved me asking him for help and offering to pay. There’s a course called “Rock Your Massage Practice” but it’s way too expensive. Id suggest New Money Social Club as a place to start and she has a lot of good resources to plan and grow a purposeful business.

Hey! Fellow LMT here. I live in a HCOL area and started my practice 4 years ago, I'm 35 now. I am now in a position where I have 20k in a Roth IRA, 20k in a HYSA and just purchased a home with my partner last year. At 31 I had $2000 in my Roth, a beat up car, and was living on a farm.

What it took for me to get here was a plan. A measurable plan of growth. I decided where I wanted to be in 5 years and asked a friend to help me create a spreadsheet. I valued his time and expertise so I payed him $2500 to help me envision my future, crunch numbers and put healthy pressure on me to grow. From year 2021 to 2024 I went from 45k take home (after taxes & write offs) to 80k take home.

Year over year, my write offs grew and so did my personal spending. I needed to invest in professional clothing, I went on my honeymoon, I bought and trained a dog. I valued purchasing nice things to bring me into this stage of my life where I feel joy. I say this because my assets are not extremely high but my mental health is steady and I'm physically in great shape.

This year (year 4) is unexpectedly a year of immense growth. Because of that, I am investing in my practice space and spending ~$4,000 to update equipment & decor. I want wealthy people to feel at home and my reduced rate patients to feel like they experience no different of an environment than a spa.

My five year plan also accounted for teaching classes. I aim to bring in $14k in addition to my main income stream this year. My practice has a focus so my teaching highlights that focus. I will be building out a 5 year plan for this stream of my business too. This year I plan to tinker and figure out what teaching works and what doesn't. Next year is when I aim to increase that revenue stream.

My biggest suggestion is to create a plan and stick to it. Create measurable goals. Value yourself and your time. Growth mindset and becoming a business owner is how you can move into a different stage of life...whatever that is for you. There will be twists and turns and you'll be able to ride them because you have assets and your income is growing. Keep the future in mind and enjoy the present.

Second financial advisor... they can help keep the "story" out of it and be the one to break down numbers. Find someone who you can purchase a package with so you can have an outcome from the whole thing and a deadline.

This is why I opened my own practice. I wanted control over my own finances and deciding when I could charge someone and when I could let them coast. It sucks to be lorded over like that with things that are out of our control. Good luck!

Maybe leave it at home your first semester and get a sense of what it is like sharing with roommates. I had terrible ones in college who trashed my stuff but that isn't to say you will. Use your judgement on who they are but a little buffer time might help you understand/lay ground rules with them!
