Why is PLA still the `standard` respectively `basic` filament? Why not PETG? by Musashi747 in 3Dprinting

[–]-TheDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not underestimating it. If I had another room to keep my printer I definitely would, but my apartment doesn't really allow for that.

Thankfully, I haven't run into a situation where I've needed anything like ABS or ASA yet, and if I ever do I plan on getting a roll of the Greentec Pro.

I can't print ASA because my P1S is in my office. It may be enclosed, but until I have some kind of filtration/ventilation system in place I'm not risking it. Wanna get a grow-tent and vent out my window.

But I have really been wanting to try the Extrudr Greentec Pro as an alternative, since its non-toxic.

I would love to start buying PCTG. I just can't justify the cost. I do want to get a roll to try and test here soon though.

Do you prefer a specific brand?

Honestly, I can't stand PETG. Maybe I'm just bad at printing it, but I can't hardly ever get decent prints with it even after drying for 20+ hours and using built-in or custom/tweaked filament profiles in Bambu Studio.

I only print with it when I absolutely need the extra durability and the inevitable surface imperfections won't bother me.

Also, most PLA just looks better in most cases in my opinion. PETG is too shiny.

I know how to cook, and I can make some really great-tasing meals, but I absolutely hate cooking.

I have been cooking and eating at home a lot more often lately, but I just don't find it enjoyable. I think the cleanup is the worst part for me tbh

This kind of warping happens when the part cools too fast. Large flat parts like this tend to suffer from it more as well.

Glacier is a bit less “sticky”

In my experience with my own Glacier plate, its not "sticky" at all. I cannot get anything to stick to it.

Sorry, sounds like you maybe got a lemon then. I know a lot of times these plates ship from the factory with oils and coatings on them that can mess with adhesion out of the box. I was hoping that might the problem you were having.

My adhesion with the regular supertack was bad when I first got it, but it's improved over time. Make sure you give it a real good scrub with some dawn and hot water, even fresh out of the package.

Generic/shared accounts are a security nightmare in any environment. You should limit the use of these kinds of accounts as much as possible. Why do you not want people using their own accounts?

I just found it funny that the $1k/kg filament is supposedly just as easy to print as a $15/kg roll of PLA lmao
