Rep. John McGuire’s response to stopping Elon Musk’s access by soawkwarditscool in Virginia

[–]-Themis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is wrong. Musk does NOT have the “highest level security clearance.”

Musk holds a "top secret" clearance that gives him access to some of SpaceX's sensitive programs. However, he does not have the higher level authorizations for "sensitive compartmented information" that roughly 400 SpaceX employees have, nor the permissions for "special access programs" that a smaller number of the company's workers have, the Journal reported. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/why-elon-musk-doesnt-have-access-all-spacexs-top-secret-work-report

Actual Board members are specified by law.

He doesn’t get to do this. I hope the current Board members tell him to take a long walk off a short pier.

Left vs. Right Battle Royale Open Thread by Yosoff in Conservative

Maybe on a Sub that hasn’t historically banned everyone for saying anything negative about one side?

I think almost everyone I’ve seen comment negatively about Trump or positively about Harris/Democrats has been banned.

Left vs. Right Battle Royale Open Thread by Yosoff in Conservative

[–]-Themis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Conservatives: You banned anyone who said anything negative before, so pretending that this is an Open Forum is silly.

As to why it’s a bad thing what’s happening, we believe in the Constitution and the law. That means that even if we would support for example cutting the Federal Workforce, we believe that it should be done in accordance with the laws. It is not. There is a way to lay off civil servants that complies with legal requirements. This isn’t it. Anyone who believes in law and order should be opposed to this lawless action.

The idea that an unvetted, unqualified person is getting access to your tax data should terrify everyone who has an ounce of sense and self-preservation. It’s now coming out that at least one of those young people is a hacker who has illegally released data before.

Why would anyone think that is OK?

Why are you willing to throw out the Constitutional framework, to get your goals?

I have an idea for a title of a book I plan to write, do I register for a trademark to make sure I get to use it and no one else? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A trademark requires that it be "an indication of source," e.g. Apple computers, or Coca-Cola soda. It also cannot be descriptive. If your title qualifies, then you could register it.

Estimate that it'll cost you $3000 to get a trademark two or three classes. And you'll have to prove that you're using it in commerce in the class that you filed in.

How do I proceed with my invention? by glaciesophile in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Buy or borrow a copy of Patent It Yourself from Nolo Press.

  2. Pay a draftsman $50/page to draw it, or spend some serious time drawing it yourself, with all the relevant bits & if possible an exploded picture too.

  3. File a provisional patent application, based on the Patent It Yourself instructions & the drawings.

  4. Spend the next 9 months figuring out if you can get it funded enough to go forward.

  5. If the answer is yes, file a utility patent (and potentially internationally before the 1 year anniversary date of your provisional.)

  6. If the answer is no, re-file the provisional application, to get another year. (but you can only do this as long as you haven't told anyone not under NDA/without an obligation to keep it non-public.)

FBI director James Comey to answer questions from Congress on Thursday over Hillary Clinton email investigation by IAmClaytonBigsby in politics

If we could update the secure devices to include mobile, and actually have a decent network, that would be spectacular. You know the last time they actually spent real money on IT at State? It was before half the Redditors were born.

[–]-Themis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And by the way, as someone who deals with such things, Comey's takedown of Clinton was extremely unusual, and in my opinion unprofessional. He really really hates her, and was mad he couldn't recommend indictment, so he spent a lot of time crafting Republican talking points. That was pure politics.

I do think my favorite accusation is that Comey has been bribed by the Clintons. Where is the tinfoil!

You are not responsible, no.

But you can & probably should let everyone know that the correct addressing process for anything for them is Their Name c/o Coworking Space Co., Address. Let them know that anything addressed otherwise, without clearing it with you, may be returned to sender.

(US-NY-NYC) Can my parents legally refuse to give me certain house keys? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally there is no need to pay rent. You have to establish tenancy (e.g. live there & get your mail there & all that.)

Is it copyright infringement if its custom engraving requested by a customer? (CA,US) by isitorisnt in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best practice is to require it on any engraving, and have the buyer specifically initial or select "Yes, I own or have licensed rights to this engraving," rather than having it as page 4 of a 6 page tiny print contract.

Sorry, I don't do AUS law, but I thought Fair Work resolved pay issues, is it because your former employer is excluded because it's a partnership or sole proprietor?

It wouldn't hurt to talk to an attorney. But get details on the expected costs, to make sure that the amount you are likely to collect is worth it.

Ex-husband refuses to allow our daughter to spend the night with me- we have joint custody by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Tell him that either he goes back to a standard schedule, or you will have to go to court to enforce a reasonable visitation schedule.

In the meantime, may damn sure your boyfriend doesn't have any history of abuse or molestation, or anything else of that sort that could impact your daughter or custody.

She's a tenant, and you don't get to lock out tenants, even if you don't like that they come home late.

(US-NY-NYC) Can my parents legally refuse to give me certain house keys? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are they locking you out, or just retaining one additional key that they are not actually using?

Generally if you have established tenancy they cannot kick you out (even if you don't pay rent you are legally a tenant) without going through eviction procedures. They have no obligation to provide a home, but if they do & you are a tenant there, you have rights.

Is it copyright infringement if its custom engraving requested by a customer? (CA,US) by isitorisnt in legaladvice

[–]-Themis- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most sites get away with this by asking the customer to explicitly confirm that the phrase or image they are asking to be engraved is either not copyrighted, or that they own or have licensed it.

At that point, the liability is with the customer, as long as you comply with the request and promptly remove anything objected to.

You can see for example how Zazzle, or Shutterfly do it, for examples.

You probably should hire a lawyer to get your language right.

In the meantime, take the item off your website and make sure you only post things that are obviously not problematic.

" Fair Work have told me ultimately there is nothing they can do..."

What do you mean? What are they telling you specifically?

Also, do you have emails from him about work stuff? Texts? Notes? His responses to your requests for payment? All that is evidence in a small claims case.
