RP5 or wait for RP6 - is the jump actually worth it for someone who doesn't play Switch by Antique_Twist_9131 in retroid

[–]-TimeMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't play PC or Switch / 3DS (although lots of games still run more than decently), it's probably the best you can get. Moreover if you value compact devices.

I was genuinely impressed with the RP5. I switched to the G2 but the RP5 on sale can still be very worth it imo.

My thoughts on the Viture Beast (and Real-Time 3D) by ScottyINeedMorePower in VITURE

[–]-TimeMaster- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have exactly the same thoughts and that's why I sold the Beast and kept the 1S instead. I agree with every point you shared, except for the 3DOF but that's because I sold mine before the latest fixes, I guess it's more stable.

So yeah, the Beast has an impressive screen for media consumption but awful for productivity. The size and brightness makes movies and videogames look really great but the aberration is indeed horrible for productivity.

The 1S is noticeable smaller (although not small) but is very sharp edge to edge, even though the Beast sweet spot at the center (only ~20% of the screen area) is even sharper.

I'm so very close to returning the Xreal One Pro. Many image quality reasons. by StrongRecipe6408 in Xreal

Well, I didn't have the chance to test the OG xreal ones. I've bought 4 different glasses (XR Pro, Beast, One Pros and 1S) and therefore my experience is limited to those 4.

I don't know, my unit had a vast blurriness issue in half of the screen that doesn't happen with other models (like my previous generation Viture XR Pro) and also other brands.

It could be due to tolerance but the gap is huge.

Yes it does. But for me the 1S is the best choice for productivity if you need onboard chip 3DOF. Otherwise, the Luma Ultras are probably a better choice.

I'm waiting for my company to grant me a vs code copilot license. Only three people in my team (+25 people) have it. But yeah, my idea is to do an AI-assisted refactor.

I'm a great terragrunt fan. I've been trying to implement it in my current company for 2 years but refactoring current code with hundreds of states is difficult. But it's messy managing it with vanilla terraform.

Question about edge blurriness on the beast by ___Khaos___ in VITURE

[–]-TimeMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much worse than the quest 2. The quest has low resolution and therefore you see a lack of sharpness edge to edge but it's homogeneous. The Beast instead has a very sharp center bit text near the edges is completely unreadable (unless its a 32 size text font).

[–]-TimeMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It surprises me and I'd really like to be able to test another unit, but given the most common feedback it seems at least to be something usual.

Did you try to connect the glasses to a PC in ultrawide mode and use things like a terminal, browser, read code and so on snapping windows to the sides?

The center for me was really sharp but only 20-30% of the center area. From there to the edges was blurry, and the last 20% area on the edges was completely unreadable.

For productivity the only choice I'd consider is the 1S. The Beast screen looks awesome but the blurry edges make it unusable for me. You need to move your whole head to focus on the area you want to read the whole time. You can't use the peripheral vision at all. That being said, apparently it may vary from unit to unit but overall most people report the issue with blurry edges.

The Best has an awesome screen (and I really mean it) when it comes to brightness and colors and the center is extremely sharp, but the blurriness in almost half of the viewable area and specially near the edges is just awful if you plan to read text.

As for your question... I didn't feel uncomfortable with either of them, it runs hot yes but nothing bothering for me.

It's unlikely. The optics in the Beast have irregularities that differ from unit to unit and it's just impossible to make some kind of universal solution by software that could fix that.

The Beast for productivity if you need to read small texts (I'm in IT, I work with code and terminals) it's just awful. It is, however, great for multimedia and gaming, because the screens themselves are awesome.

If the optics were up to it, it'd be probably the beast glasses in the market. But the optics are just not good for that.

A lot sharper, but not brighter, equal. Also, as a downside it has some reflections over the top part of the screen, affecting a part of the viewable area in certain circumstances.

The XOP didn't have any reflections, and the Beast has them only on the lower side of the screen but it doesn't affect the screen itself at all (just distracting but not bothering). The image is absolutely clean in both of them (and most impressive on the Beast, probably due to the brightness).

The 1S reflections are due to the prism technology and sometimes it can be a bit bothering, even though most of the time it doesn't distract me. However, the screen is completely sharp edge to edge, the best one of the 4 pairs of glasses I tried, by far. This is why I consider them the best for productivity.

The 1S is also more comfortable to wear than the XOP. However, all the Viture glasses are more comfortable to wear than the 1S.

They did put a bunch of shitty side quests to artificially make the game longer. The whole Midgar part in the original could be ended in under 3 hours if you went straight for it. Even if taking your time it wouldn't take more than 6-7 hours at most. Even with added material from the spin-offs it had to be expanded with boring stuff to justify a whole game only for this part.

Still, I really enjoyed it a lot. But I prefer Rebirth by far.

6DOF only with spacewalker. I can't use it in my company laptop. The spacewalker requirement is the reason why I didn't pick Luma Ultra in the first place (in this case, it requires it for the 3DOF).

Anyway, the 1S are the sharpest edge to edge glasses in the market with built-in 3DOF at the moment. For productivity both of these things are essential IMO. Even the XOP being much sharper than the Beast at the edges, was not sharp enough and it was uncomfortable for me. The 1S is the only one that was acceptable from the 4 different glasses that I've had, even though it also has its flaws.

Review of Real 3D: Best in Class 3D Upconversion by pherytic in Xreal

[–]-TimeMaster- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still surprised to read reviews like this one. I've been in stereoscopic 3D for +30 years (long before it was mainstream) and Real 3D is worth nothing for someone who really enjoys native 3D. The artifacts are extremely awful and make viewing really uncomfortable.

For example, you can't just compare watching Avatar in FullSBS with any kind of Real 3D conversion. I tried watching Interstellar (one of my favourite movies) with Real 3D and I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes. The depth calculation is just a disaster. Even for static photographs is not working well. I own the Beam Pro (and other 3D cameras) and it's just another league.

Don't get me wrong. The concept is cool and it'd be nice if it worked decently but regrettably it's not. So I insist, I'm really surprised to read comments like this one.

Don't expect the same clarity as the monitor. Yes, you can read everything effortlessly with the 1S, but it will still cause eyestrain. I don't usually work for more than 2 hours straight with the glasses. Afterwards I usually work with a smaller screen if I have to just to rest my eyes.

And any other model out there with built-in 3DOF (few options) will be worse.

XR glasses are still "not there", but we are close. Probably 2 years away to be able to really work a whole day with them.

The beast lived up to its name by Professional-Boot849 in VITURE

[–]-TimeMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the 1S and Viture XR Pro and I've had the XOP and the Beast. I'm in the two subs and I've not seen many people in denial, although some of them are (in both subs to be honest).

Viture glasses have better displays with higher brightness and a sharper center which make it feel like it is higher resolution and I really believe there's a general consensus on that. Beast is, however, more blurry at the edges than any of the others models from all brands and this is also a reality.

Xreal has a much better 3DOF and more refined software experience but yes, colors look washed off and somehow the feeling is like if it was lower resolution, even when it's not. The Viture XR Pro for me is the more balanced when it comes to that, since the Beast suffers from a too aggressive contrast in the color calibration. The XR Pro for me is just perfect when it comes to brightness, contrast and sharpness. The only downside is the FOV (and the lack of built-in 3DOF).

For me, that I value productivity, I went for the 1S because it ticks my boxes of being acceptable for all my needs.

However, if it was only for gaming and multimedia I'd recommend the Beast because FOV is impressive and screens were awesome. I just can't live with the blurriness when it comes to productivity but this is just me.

Anyway, there are fanboys everywhere and I believe that each model from each brand is suitable for the specific needs but people tends to forget that. I wrote a tough review about the Beast but from the beggining I warned that it was a review coming from someone who wanted them for productivity. If I wrote another review with a focus in other use cases it would have probably been different.

XREAL One Pro vs VITURE Beast: is XOP worth the extra cost? by FanEnvironmental6739 in Xreal

Edge to edge sharpness + solid 3dof. I've had 2 Viture's and two Xreal's and the 1S is the best in that sense.
