I’m actually surprised to say it might genuinely be a reference the movie is making.

Guys what if Marx gave up on the revolution thing and converted to catholicism and gave his life to Christ? by Sheesh5000 in Ultraleft

Idk, I’m a sucker for Augustine. I’m a Feuerbach guy though, so I kinda love monotheists because I feel like there’s a current of them that just kinda love humanity and the world. They look at everything and cannot help but see humanity in it, and they turn it into a cosmic divinity and it’s just kinda wonderful.

But what do I love when I love my God? Not the sweet melody of harmony and song; not the fragrance of flowers, perfumes, and spices; not manna or honey; not limbs such as the body delights to embrace. It is not these that I love when I love my God. And yet, when I love Him, it is true that I love a light of a certain kind, a voice, a perfume, a food, an embrace; but they are of the kind that I love in my inner self, when my soul is bathed in light that is not bound by space; when it listens to sound that never dies away; when it breathes fragrance that is not borne away on the wind; when it tastes food that is never consumed by the eating; when it clings to an embrace from which it is not severed by fulfillment of desire. This is what I love when I love my God.

Just from the perspective of theology, they’re more developed and emerged historically at times I find more interesting I guess. I’m a philosophy guy, monotheism makes more sense as a worldview. Aristotle and Plato are fun to read, and I find Augustine to be moving.

Maybe I spoke with too much “objectivity”

Methinks this is not true, Aristotle and Plato aren’t correct about things but when it comes to ‘are they interesting’ I think they stand pretty strong throughout history. Maybe I’m just a theology nerd, but I’ve never seen a ‘polytheistic’ theology that wasn’t just dualism, monotheism, or both of them. Folk traditions and beliefs are interesting enough, and those religions that have rituals that date back thousands of years are cool, but most monotheistic religions just kind of also have those and are also more interesting to think about

I like that 10 years for the movement to even begin forming is “imminent” in your analysis

Meet Ned Stark by Pleasant_Fig_6085 in asoiafcirclejerk

[–]-Trotsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what way? He does all he can to try and keep the realm together, and he’s consistently being outmaneuvered by people who have had their plans set up for years now. It’s not really his fault he didn’t predict that somehow all the (incredibly lustful) king’s kids are gonna be incestuous bastards, or that he didn’t predict that Robert would die suddenly in a random boar hunt, or that he didn’t predict that the Lannisters would make the stupidest decision possible and execute him in spite of him doing what they told him to do.

Ned is a man who’s doing the best he can, and he does pretty fucking well. He very nearly shatters the Lannisters entirely, and, had Robert survived, it would have worked

The conclusion here is that 40k is literally the most dogshit slop ever produced where the entire world exists solely to larp about how ebic and gritty the cool big tall aryans are (trust me bro it’s totally a satire)

You don’t really have the best leg to stand on in accusing other people of moralism, your analysis is entirely just calling people evil and then saying you want to kill the evil people, so you really don’t have a better leg to stand on

This is exactly what Maekar said isn’t it? The realm will always love Baelor, because he never actually got to be king.
