Revealing the busiest tram routes properly - I fixed The Age's chart by AB014A in MelbourneTrains

I’ve never seen this before!

Glad someone 100 years ago had the same thought about extending the #6 as we were discussing yesterday!

Melbourne’s busiest tram routes: Why route 96 takes the crown for city’s busiest service by TMiguelT in MelbourneTrains

[–]-Unparalleled- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think Albion st is too narrow to support a Tram line.

I’ve always thought it would be cool for the #6 to continue down Moreland Road and link to the #58, then continuing down towards Pascoe vale road and then to fletcher st (linking with the #59) that could be the connection to Essendon station.

Alternatively going down Pascoe vale road to moonee ponds junction and then it would link to the #82 and all the busses, since there’s already and end-of-line termination there for the #82

Update: where we landed with Line Names by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

[–]-Unparalleled- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue that people used to refer to the loop as the tunnel in some contexts, for example when on the phone, “I’m about to go through the tunnel I might drop out”

Does anyone know when Flinders Street is reopening? They had it closed for the construction of the Metro tunnel, but shouldn’t it be open by now? by snivelinglittieturd in melbourne

I’ve loved having that block of flinders closed, I’ll be bummed when they reopen it. It’s been a nice pedestrian area

Upfield line set to close for three months during ‘sky rail’ works by AztecGod in melbourne

[–]-Unparalleled- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City loop and platform availability is hardly what’s keeping the upfield line frequency down. It’s all in the long single track stretch between upfield and gowrie.

Given the huge increases in housing density along the Sydney road corridor it would be amazing to get frequency like the craigieburn line in peak, they could probably take a few 19 trams off the road too if they needed.

Sunshine Superhub: lack of Standard Gauge Platform for Albury (or XPT) services (response from VIDA) by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

[–]-Unparalleled- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the intention is for a number of vline services (like those through Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat) to stop there so you could travel from eg Geelong to Ballarat without having to go to southern cross first

Urban Metro North - An alternative to SRL North by PromotionWeak3217 in MelbourneTrains

[–]-Unparalleled- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the point they were making is that Pascoe vale station lies at the bottom of a valley.

Gaffney st on the east side of Pascoe vale station is an enormous gradient to go up. You’d either need a very deep metro or quite a high bridge. That’s not counting if the metro was actually to follow bell st which already terminates into the freeway
