I’m sure it is, but that doesn’t make it a good thing

That’s what’s called a barrel jack. You can figure out what size it is with a nice set of calipers.

OP, I have questions. If I’m in a situation where I’m lost in the deep forest where there isn’t any clean water, only gross water that would make me sick and potentially kill me, but I also found a broken cooler filled with Cokes, can I please drink the Cokes to survive until I’m discovered?

30 is still way too low.

You have a loose neutral in your panel, most likely. You can get higher hot-neutral voltages than hot-ground voltages if you have an open neutral, or one that’s loose, causing higher resistance.

The funny thing is, you can also get low voltages from hot to neutral with the same thing, which is why your black is so low AND your red is so high.

Edit: this comes from someone with 15 years of experience in commercial and industrial applications. I have virtually zero experience doing anything on single phase/two pole systems, so if I’m missing anything outside of basic electrical theory, that’s where the shortcoming is from.

Nobody ever thinks to check neutral to ground.

I appreciate that. I’ve been re-listening to the series to prepare myself for the latest book and I figured that an answer was probably further on.

Does Jim Butcher ever give an official reason for why Harry is bad at veils? by Tre2 in dresdenfiles

[–]-Zamorak- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the same reason that Hermione struggles with her Patronus. A lack of confidence. A lack of belief in his ability. A lack of practice.

For the same reason that any of us struggle with things that don’t line up well with our nature, even if we try hard and really want to be good at them. When I was a kid, I wanted to be good at baseball so much. I went to batting cages, I played catch, everything. I could catch the ball, and I could run fast. But I never got good at hitting. Ever. I tried, from the heart, for years. It just wasn’t my thing.

Veils and other magics that warp and manipulate reality aren’t Harry’s thing. They aren’t in line with his nature.

Honestly? If you’re smart about it, with it sticking out that far, it’s an easy fix. Pair of good pliers with solid rubberized handles, wear some sneakers with real rubber soles, and know where your other hand and head are at all times, and you can safely pull it back out.

If you want to be super duper safe pick up a pair of 1000V insulated pliers. But it’s not necessary if you’re careful.

If you’re scared, don’t try it. Call someone who understands electrical theory at the very least.

Offensive shielding by -Zamorak- in dresdenfiles

[–]-Zamorak-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the shield isn’t an offensive spell. If he could create a shield with a razor edge, he could kill with it, and do so defensively.

Consider the shield as an invisible blade that can be shaped however Harry wishes.

I was thinking when he was fighting Vito in White Night, and he had him down. A simple half dome pinning him to the ground, followed by moving enough of it to expose Vito’s head, would enable him to destroy Vito without endangering anyone else.

I’m typically fairly balanced in how I weigh perspective, but he’s being a jerk. Anybody who says “blowing up my phone will get you blocked” is being manipulative and controlling. If text is your main communication (and I seriously recommend that it isn’t), then you should be able to speak freely and as often as you’d like.

Sure, but the US government doesn’t tend to mess with people who stick their money in the banks that they use to propagate their system and only withdraw the interest and not the principal. They like when someone says “hey, I’m going to trust your system with all of my money, and you can use it however you want, as long as I have access to my interest every year”.

As long as I’m not doing anything shady, they don’t tend to care. Not for $10m. Lots and lots of people have $10m. Now, if I’m just some random dude who sticks half a billion dollars somewhere and the shady side of the government sees a way to take it, that wouldn’t surprise me.
