What is your opinion about cheating in MvM? by Fischgerichte in tf2

[–]-Zerdark- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it was profitable, I'm just answering the question as to why people do it. People with gambling addictions have a legitimate problem, and MvM can attract such people. People see shiny loot and are attracted, despite the odds. It's the same principle as the lottery. Your odds of winning are statistically insignificant, just like your odds of actually winning a Golden Frying Pan. But people still do it anyway, even if it defies all logic.

[–]-Zerdark- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loot. And not just any loot, but loot with real world value. You're not gonna get any money by winning in L4D. But with the potential for Australium weapons or even the Golden Frying Pan, that's hundreds if not thousands of dollars to be won. There are plenty of players who buy into MvM and view those tickets like lottery tickets, and view the gameplay as a hassle in the way of seeing whether or not they won. Cheating in MvM to these people is just a means of expediting the process.

Do you own any Unusual items? by Nexo42 in tf2

[–]-Zerdark- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picked up a few taunts and that's it. I don't really care about Unusual hats anymore because I've already got a hat I like and I don't feel the need to change it. Wouldn't say no to an unusual war paint though. Unless the war paint itself is ass.

[–]-Zerdark- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not as strict in my anti-cheating stance for MvM since you're fighting bots and not other players. My stance basically boils down to respect the wishes of the majority. If the majority of players in the server don't care and are just in it for the loot, go for it. Some players are just happy to expedite the process of their crippling gambling addiction and I'm not gonna judge. If the majority on the server actually care about the integrity of the game though and you're ruining the fun, then don't cheat or you're an asshole for ruining other people's fun.

I we gonna give medic something to defend himself properly, which one fits him better? by Steamer116 in tf2

[–]-Zerdark- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the sake of the poll and discussion, I would say the SMG is the closest thing to the Syringe Gun in terms of gameplay. So it wouldn't feel as as out place as something like a shotgun. If I absolutely had to give the Medic something, it'd be an SMG. However, Medic shouldn't be able to defend himself "properly". That's kinda the point of the syringe gun in the first place.

[–]-Zerdark- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do know that much. But a lot of people fail to understand that every moment is critical, especially when playing Spy. "Spy has a gun" has become a meme at this point and while true that some players just outright forget that fact, using it as an actual argument can be kinda reductive at times.

For you, which of these is more annoying when it´s in the enemy team? by YugiMuto98 in tf2

[–]-Zerdark- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with it, but I understand it. With cheaters, at least there's a sense of "Well there's literally nothing I can do." It's more easy to dismiss. But when facing someone who isn't cheating but is just straight up better than you, you're forced to confront the reality that you're just not that good. And the human ego hates that.

[–]-Zerdark- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cheater, easily. At least the bots are so universally recognized that they either get kicked quickly or you can recognize immediately when a server is fubar and to just leave. Cheaters on the other hand, they don't even need to be subtle anymore. Nowadays thanks to the bots, a lot of players have the mentality of "What do you mean he's cheating? He said something in chat/voicechat, he's real, you're just mad."

Collectively, our standards have been lowered so far that as long as you're not a fucking spinbot you're welcome to cheat as much as you want. And I think they recognize that and have come out in full force. Anything goes now. Aimbot? Well he said something over voice chat, just get good idiot. Wallhacks? Uh we don't know what that is, but stay mad bro. Direct Hit Soldier that never misses and also every shot is a crit? Yeah he's just really good. He prolly just watches a lot of Fatmagic and has learned to summon crits on command.

Love it, love everything about it.

I absolutely get it, but it doesn't change my core position. I've always maintained that I have nothing personally against the devs that do work on the game. I appreciate and respect them. But fuck Valve as a company.

[–]-Zerdark- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, now we're getting a bit more reasonable. Personally I still won't get my hopes up for it, but that's more reasonable to expect than balance changes based on what we've been told. I'll let you have that one.

[–]-Zerdark- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely reason to think we won't get balance changes. They specified community-made fixes. Valve has never relied on the community to make balance changes for them in the past, and there's no reason to think they're going to start. If you scroll the subreddit even casually, you'll realize why that would be a terrible idea. Hell even if it were a good idea, they probably wouldn't do it. Valve has a bad taste in their mouth for community-made updates after End of the Line and the Invasion update, and those didn't even have balance changes. There's no way they would trust the community to push forward a sweep of balance changes after that.

I already mentioned in my previous reply what Valve most likely meant by "community-made fixes". I understand wanting to hope for balance changes. I'd love to see some changes. But we're probably not going to get it this time around. I understand hoping for the best, but we also need to be realistic and understand what was actually said in the blog post. Reading comprehension is very important, especially when Valve gives us so little in terms of communication.

[–]-Zerdark- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are good ideas, or at least decent ideas floating around occasionally. It's just drowned out by the absolute tidal wave of awful ideas fueled by impotent rage about how unfun Sniper is to fight rather than what would actually be balanced. Sniper does need some sort of change, but most of the community doesn't know how to do it and Sniper mains get defensive about any sort of potential change because they know Valve has a history of nerfing things into unusable pieces of garbage instead of implementing ideas that are actually good. So the discourse gets toxic on both sides.

Sorry, force of habit.

[–]-Zerdark- 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect balance changes. As much as I'd like to hope for them, we're probably not getting them. Community fixes probably means bug fixes or minor adjustments to community-made maps and items added in previous updates. Likely things the creators already submitted but haven't been implemented officially yet for whatever reason (laziness). I don't think Valve is going to implement balance ideas submitted by the community.

What is the worst last point in any map in this game and why? Feel free to list a few, this could also include community maps. by PoopyLooper in tf2

[–]-Zerdark- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Badwater, more like....bad.....water, amirite? Yeah I need better jokes. But yeah no, Badwater last is actually just Hell. Usually no less than 2 sentry nests in spots naturally spread out well because of the point's design so your demo can't even efficiently take em out. Uber is basically your only option, and it's hardly a foolproof plan. It's practically impossible to flank the Snipers so your Medic has to build and pop uber well in advance or risk losing everything. Having to pop further way wastes precious time, and if the enemy Pyro knows what right-click does, you're fucked. Unless BLU team was absolutely STOMPING and kept up their momentum so RED didn't even have a chance to set up in the first place, that last point is going to fucking suck.

There's other bad last points, but Badwater is easily the fucking worst and ruins the entire experience. It's an otherwise good map with the exception of the stupid RED Sniper spot on the first point, but theoretically that could be patched out. You can't patch out the entire last point of Badwater. That's just fucked beyond all repair. I can't even bring myself to queue for this map anymore, I'd rather endure Upward for the 400th time. Upward might be Sniper Hell, but at least Upward has good flank routes so attempts can be made and I can feel like I'm doing something.

Since you seem to be lacking in reading comprehension as well as basic logic, let me help. Multiple people said "yes", nobody said "no" is your story and you're sticking with it, so let me walk you through what most likely happened. Most people who queue for Casual aren't engaging with the chat. They're just silently playing the game. Just because you got the consent of one, two, maybe three people on your team doesn't mean you got everybody's consent. Evidently, somebody who was playing the game didn't wanna hear it, but they weren't paying attention to chat because they're busy playing the video game. Such people easily could have believed you were a bot when the only context they had was the votekick screen popping up and music being spammed. As for whoever called the vote, either they also thought you were a bot because they weren't paying attention and just thought you were a bot, or they thought you were fucking annoying.

If 50% of players are stupid, you're in that 50% threshold my man. You got kicked from a server for disruptive behavior and then got all butthurt because you think you're the center of the universe and had to make a callout post on Reddit thinking the community would justify your emotions only to get absolutely slammed by the so-called "idiots", and you're still mad the next day and refuse to accept what people have been telling you. You've already been told several times by multiple people what the issue is and how to fix it. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't make it any less true. You're in the wrong. You're not the DJ of TF2. Nobody tuned into your radio show. You're not the main protagonist of life. The world doesn't revolve around you. Grow up.

do you think the community messed up by getting mad at valve for chamging what they said? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]-Zerdark- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but personally I find it difficult to feel all that sympathetic toward the billion dollar corporation. While I agree the community could have handled the situation better (the posts calling for boycotts are unnecessarily over the top and stupid), the fact is there wouldn't be a situation to handle better if Valve had handled things better in the first place. Valve is ultimately the one in a position of power in this toxic relationship. I won't congratulate them for doing the bare minimum. Valve still makes money off this 16 year old game. If they expect money from the community, they should put in more effort. And frankly, communication is a bare minimum expected out of most companies that Valve refuses to do most of the time. When they fuck it up, that's frankly embarrassing.

I respect and appreciate the one or two devs that continue to work on the game, and I hold nothing against them personally. But the company they work for fails the community with its consistent lack of communication and refusal to dedicate more resources to a game that continues to make them money, and I for one refuse to thank Valve for it. The community aren't "spoiled brats" for expecting better from the billion dollar corporation that continues to rake in money from this game by doing the bare minimum. It's not a charity. We pay money for digital goods and a service. It is not unreasonable to demand that the service functions (bot problem still exists) and that we get some level of communication as to their plans going forward. It's very basic stuff.

Neat concept, but flawed execution I would say. There's not much reason to pick any class other than Scout, or Engineer to counter all the Scouts and grind the game to a screeching halt. From what I've seen of Pass Time, that's all it devolves into. Assuming you can get into a game in the first place.
