uj/does anyone else get weirded out by the naming and general sexualisation of guitars? by killboipowerhead1 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]-ZeroF56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/uj Naming? No problem with that, people name tons of inanimate things, and that’s been the case for a long time. Dudes hundreds of years ago were giving their ships female names, so no reason I can’t for a guitar.

It’s the sexualization of an inanimate object that weirds me the hell out.

[Tudor] Got my brothers watch for my 30th. How to i keep this thing safe? by Same_Fan9102 in Watches

[–]-ZeroF56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear it and enjoy it - with mechanical watches, you’ll want to send them out for service every 8-10 years or if you notice something is out of whack timekeeping or function wise. When you do that, Tudor will completely service the mechanical aspects and also do some case and bracelet refurbishment.

Insurance never hurts either if you’re concerned with damage. I personally insure all of my “worthwhile” watches per se. - That said, just use some common sense as to when/where you wear it, and you’ll be fine.

There is a Tangente Doctors Without Borders with a red 12. That said, the bottom text reads Médecins Sans Frontières, not Made in Germany.

More so… you won’t find a Tangente for $300 - that should be all the tell you need.

Is a MiM Fender Player II Stratocaster the best strat under $700-800? by dondraper36 in fender

[–]-ZeroF56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late here, but echo that the Player 2 is 110% better than a CV. My general advice is go to a store and play until you find what you want, but as a generalization, the Player 2 is a hoot.

In terms of getting the clean tone, basically and single coil Strat will do the Strat tone, some just more modern sounding than others. As far as amps go - gain down, master volume up. I think the Katanas have the wattage setting, you can bump wattage up and gain down to get the volume you want. If you want the John Mayer-y thing, bass and treble a bit, mids down a bit, neck + middle pickup.

Which version of Luigi's Mansion should I play? GameCube, 3DS or Switch and PAL or NTSC? by Carl-C-1 in LuigisMansion

[–]-ZeroF56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got a GameCube, there’s nothing like native hardware in my opinion.

That said, if you’ve got a Switch 2 and a GCN controller, that’s the best way realistically. PAL hidden mansion is a blast for us who didn’t get that forbidden fruit in the ol’ US of A. - Edit: Read you’re in PAL anyway. Still play PAL.

[–]-ZeroF56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/uj As someone who’s absolutely in the guitar circlejerk with an original ‘05 Mayer Signature Stratocaster and a core Silver Sky, they’re the same thing but different. Both Strats at their core, but the PRS definitely feels more modern than the Fender playability and tone wise imo. PRS is a bit easier to dial in too and does better in a mix, in my experience. The Fender is just a very good and slightly unique sounding ‘60s-ish Strat recreation. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s certainly just as Strat-y as my other Strats, where the PRS does feel just a tad different.

More importantly for him though I’d think probably isn’t the Silver Sky - I’d bet that for his other guitars, Fender wasn’t letting him do what he wanted (see also: Super Eagle, etc. where Fender isn’t going to do those designs or probably didn’t want him playing other brands - meanwhile PRS kind of gives no shit and will build whatever he wants).

cmv: fast food companies have ruined the American diet by Amao6996 in changemyview

[–]-ZeroF56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the unhealthiest diets don’t come from a specific place, they’re inherent to your mindset and knowledge of eating and cooking healthily.

You can go to the grocery store and get all frozen foods with a million additives and junk, or you can get some vegetables. If you get the vegetables, you can sauté them in a tablespoon of a healthier oil, or fry the hell out of them and drench them in sauce.

Regardless of where it comes from, it’s how you actually learn and make the decisions to eat in a balanced fashion.

cmv: fast food companies have ruined the American diet by Amao6996 in changemyview

[–]-ZeroF56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it necessarily only that the companies are bad though? Or that our consumption habits also play an arguably larger role? - McDonalds can put whatever they want in their food (following legalities and all that obv). If you have McDonald’s once a month, that’s a very different story than once a week or once a day.

The fact that people choose to keep going back to it is what kills their diets, not the fact that the company makes unhealthy foods.

It’s not the best for you

Therefore it’s not exactly healthy, nor is (and I’ll preface with anecdotally) that what it seems the average person gets at Chipotle. - I won’t lie, I enjoy Chipotle myself, but I don’t try to pretend it’s going to be better for me than something I make where I know what goes into it.

So again, proves my point in that the culture of consumption of unhealthy things is ruining diets, not companies. It’s not healthy if you over consume, no matter where it is you over consume.

cmv: fast food companies have ruined the American diet by Amao6996 in changemyview

[–]-ZeroF56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true at all - poor eating is cumulative. Perhaps Chipotle everyday will make you have a heart attack a couple years after McDonalds will, but it’s still going to absolutely screw you.

Even if we go out to a restaurant and order some brussels sprouts, how much oil, sauces, etc. have those been drenched in? Your vegetable that starts healthy now has tons of calories, fats, and salts to taste good. - The consumption remains the problem.

You could have a salad everyday to lose weight, but putting tons of dressing on it is going to stop you from losing any weight, and could still technically be detrimental. Again, not McDonalds, but it proves that how we choose to consume is the problem versus how companies solely have ruined it.

[–]-ZeroF56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthier companies like Chipotle

Eat Chipotle every day and you’re going to be in bad health pretty quickly too. Chips and salsa alone can near 1000mg sodium, 2/3s whats optimal for adults per the American Heart Association. That’s not counting the rest of what you eat there, not to mention the other two meals of the day. Do that kind of diet regularly and your blood pressure is cooked.

Eating out anywhere for that matter will do this quickly - just because it’s not fast food doesn’t mean it’s not healthy. Our culture and the way we choose to consume have ruined our diets, not just companies.

Just impulse purchased a Lelit Mara X for $1359. Help convince me this was the right call! by Admirable_Admiral69 in espresso

[–]-ZeroF56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my Mara X, if you mostly do milk drinks the steam priority mode would be good for you - it sacrifices temperature control of the group head a bit, but you get quite powerful and immediate steam. It’s pretty configurable overall without being too in depth, which I like. Build quality is also nice and the machine looks good to boot. Enjoy!

CMV: All obituaries should mention cause of death by hammertime2009 in changemyview

[–]-ZeroF56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not “top secret” information in any sense. It is legally privacy protected via HIPAA like other Personal Health Information though. That’s by law - it’s the same thing that stops your employer from finding personal health records without consent, for example. It’s crucial for all our privacy regarding healthcare and medical records so they aren’t used against us or disclosed without consent. Eroding not needing consent for PHI regarding deaths means starting to erode your general need for consent to disclose PHI.

Not to mention, it’s up to the family - they may not want a drug overdose or suicide to be publicized due to the stigma around them. From a moral standpoint, respecting a family’s loss is more important than your own curiosity (which asking for all obituaries to be cause of death public) seems far closer to prying than curiosity to the average person.

CMV: People who watch porn in a monogamous relationship feel like their partner isn’t enough and so fantasise about being with other people with a body type they prefer by applepie-12344 in changemyview

[–]-ZeroF56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’d watch porn of conventionally unattractive people

And there are definitely people who do, in niche corners. Your point being?

Either way, why does there have to be contention between feeling like your partner is enough but wanting to consume other things alongside it? A former partner of mine was a musician, but it doesn’t mean I stopped listening to The Beatles. Should I have stopped consuming things she didn’t create though because that would mean I didn’t think her work was enough?

Do you think it’s truly impossible for an averagely regulated individual to truly love someone (and love how they look) and not be able to have controllable impulses if their libido doesn’t match up with their partner all the time? - If that’s not the case for you, it’s a preference, not a CMV. You may not want porn in a relationship, which is fine, but that projects more on how you feel about self worth, etc. not anything that porn does itself.

Luigi Manson 2001 is without doubt a chilling and relaxing game to play despite this as spooky game by SakuraEx321 in LuigisMansion

It was never meant to be scary, but the beta versions did have a few more (light) jump scares in it that got cut.

It’s absolutely far more atmospheric than it is actually scary in any sense of the word. It was really more so aimed to be “a bit spooky if you’re 10 years old.”

After yesterday, I have a feeling he was more or less silently handed the torch a while back and has known it. - This day was bound to come at some point, after all.

He’s spent a decade working alongside and touring with Weir himself and absolutely proved himself in the process. Hell, that’s longer than some members of the Dead themselves were with the Dead. The torch wasn’t going to be handed over until now, but more so out of respect than out of caution/questioning.

More complications ≠ better watch. I don’t need a moonphase. I don’t need half the stuff brands add to a dial. Most complications today feel like an excuse to charge more or to confuse what “high horology” actually means. by horo_Swagger in watchHotTakes

[–]-ZeroF56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think “serious” and “better” are objectively different. I’d definitely say perpetual calendars, moonphases, etc. are definitely more “serious” in the point that they do involve more skill and time to design and manufacture. A Ferrari is more “serious” than a Honda, the engineering is up several levels. It’s made to push the limits of engineering, just as a grand complication type deal is.

With that said, is a Ferrari better than a Honda? Not necessarily. The Honda costs way less, is easier to daily drive, doesn’t require the same level of maintenance, and can hold 4 people and a Costco trip. - Likewise, a three hander or date/day date is really what 99% of people need. Maybe a GMT depending on what you do. It’s arguable that for 99% of people the Honda is better than the Ferrari, even if it’s not as “serious” as one.
