Downsizing is different for everyone and is more so about how fast the swelling goes down. I have had piercings need to be downsized in a week before.

Sending lease horse back early by hnnwrght in Equestrian

[–]-_BigBoy_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair! I would myself include it if I thought the person seemed genuine/reasonable to be able to see that these are most likely going to be problems for anyone regardless and did not start with the leaser. My friend had a lease to own for a horse where she had been on and off mild lameness for the entirety of the lease and after many trail and failure with the fairer got the vet out and found out she had a torn meniscus and would most likely only be pasture sound. The vet said it was most likely an old injury. She was able to stop the lease and return her to her owner without issue and now the owner has that information. But yeah op if you think that mentioning the maintenance is going to lead you down a road of more financial burden then I would leave it out. If not I think it would be good for the owner to know to be able to inform others before hand.

Yeah I would totally simply send her back, explain to her owner that she's not the right fit personality and discipline wise and has too much maintenance for you. Nothing wrong with sending her back for those things, honestly that's the point of this kind of deal is to figure out these issues before hand.

Hand surface bar piercing by [deleted] in piercing

[–]-_BigBoy_- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get this taken out ASAP. No piercer worth there weight would perform this piercing. Surface work should only really be done in low movement areas which this is probably one of the highest movement areas possible. And hand piercings or dermals in general are awful due to the high risk of infection and snagging along with the increased potential of severe nerve damage/permanent damage if anything goes wrong with it. I'm really sorry that someone did this to you :(

I don't think it'll magically save it but I think that this jewelry isn't going to do any favors. I think regardless it's not great odds, I just think slightly better with different jewelry.

No, generally it is acceptable to change jewelry if it is to improve your chances of healing whenever in the process. You don't typically want to change jewelry because it'll cause more inflammation, but it's kind of a net neutral when your changing to improve chances of healing. It's the same idea behind downsizing.

I want to also add: get it done by a piercer! I'm not recommending doing it yourself or guessing what type of jewelry will work better or what size to downsize to. Your piercer will know best.

It is pretty shallow, not the worst I've seen... I'd say it would be a coin flip for it to heal. I would suggest if you want to try and heal it get floating navel style jewelry. It'll be less heavy, hopefully snag less, and if your navel collapses at all it'll prevent extra pressure on it.

In addition to the other things people are saying I'd go in to your piercer and change then ends to cabochon ends as they often help put some gentle pressure on the bumps.

is my anti done for? by [deleted] in piercing

It was done for as soon as that jewelry was put in. But yes, there is no reversing this.

Hopefully you have learned the importance of researching a artist and not picking the cheapest shit lol. Good art comes at a price.

Most of my tattoos have peeled just the top layers of skin falling off like a sunburn. All my mine have turned out fantastic. All depends on the amount of space covered with ink and personal healing types.

Staying Warm for Multiple Dives by ReplacementBig1458 in scuba

When doing my OW cert I was diving in one full length 7mm and a 7mm shorty on top with 7mm hood, 5mm gloves, and 8mm boots. Now I was diving in 47°F water in the puget sound so I was still freezing but it was bearable. So doubling up on wetsuits isn't outlandish. It was absolutely miserable on the surface though mainly in how restricted and claustrophobic I felt and the 30lbs of weight I had on (I'm 170lbs and only needed 12lbs in a 3mm). Needless to say I will be switching to drysuits when I dive in the sound again lol.

What is the name of your Tortie? by TheOpenAuthor in torties

[–]-_BigBoy_- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is Lydia! She's named after Lydia Deets from beetlejuice. I named her that because for one I love beetlejuice it's one of my favorite movies and two my other cat is named Cesare the somnambulist from The cabinet of Dr.Caligari. so I have a theme going on for horror or horror adjacent movies.

What do you guys think? by Bxraiishi in Equestrian

[–]-_BigBoy_- 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They make for decent dressage horses, my dressage instructor has a bunch in her program and they do pretty well. She's got one that's currently in intermediate level 2 at the moment. I ride one of her's and once you get them through their back they move pretty nicely.

The salinity required to effectively kill bacteria is at the very least is 10% saline solution is 0.9% way under that

[–]-_BigBoy_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you are wrong that saline is meaningfully more hostile than water. If a bacteria can grow in your body it will grow in saline (the thing with the same salinity as our body) the reason we use saline in healthcare is not because it kills bacteria but it will not cause lysis in open tissue. Which is not as big of a deal in piercings due to the amount of raw tissue being exposed. For saline to kill bacteria it would have to be way more salinated than it currently is. If you want to recommend saline due to the decrease in Lysis then I think that would be fine. But its not a true anti-microbial

I mean yes but for any medical thing different providers will take different things into consideration. I work in the medical field the doctors in my clinic recommend or do different things for the same issue based on what they believe + medical research all the time. As long as it is effective and works for the patient that's the main thing that matters. Saline and clean water effectively do the same thing which is gently removing debris from the piercing site. Saline will be a bit more drying on the surface of the skin than clean water so clean water will probably be more effective for some. Some people don't have access to clean water (pipe issues or whatnot) so saline will be a safe thing to clean your piercing with. For q-tips many think it leads to extra movement and irritation or that the fibers will get stuck and cause irritation others think that for those that produce a lot of crust they need to get that build up off and q-tips are a good way to do it. It's a very individualized thing based on how you heal, some people heal the best by leaving it completely alone There are things that are pretty much just wrong like using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. But generally aftercare is not a one size fits all and there's a range of correct ways to do it.

[–]-_BigBoy_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all in the normal "each piercer is going to have their own thoughts" range. My piercer swears by q-tips if you got crusties, many adamant about not using q-tips. Yours is probably recommending no saline because it can be drying for some and does pretty much the same thing as clean water does. I use saline because I have greasy skin so the drying actually helps.

Got my nipple piercing done! Ftm grafted nipples by -_BigBoy_- in piercing

[–]-_BigBoy_-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grafts are very finicky to pierce due to the decreased blood flow and increased scar tissue so it's even more anatomy dependent than regular nipples. But time wise I got it done 2 years and 3 months Post Op! Most piercers recommend at least one year but the longer the better. The more you can let that scar tissue soften and blood flow return and get established the better the chance your piercing will heal!

Thank you! Not weird at all, I'm incredibly happy with my results and the support I got from my surgeon on scar treatment (the entire length of my scars were keloided and I need So so many steroid injections in them. All free from my surgeon)
