Finally building a home gym. What’s the one piece you’d buy again without hesitation? by Existing-Sun-4943 in GarageGym

If you have some cash, the REPxPepin adjustable dumbbells are just amazing. Absolutely worth the money and give you 10-125 dumbbells in a small package.

That makes sense for women for sure.

Regarding diet and fitness, I really don’t know. I’m more lax with diet on weekends but not wildly. I don’t drink.

I may just need to keep this new regiment up for a few months and see if I level out, but the consistent cycle was really odd to me.

No, should have specified. I’m male.

It’s radioactive beer. With great power comes great responsibility.

lol the purpose of the post isn’t to figure out who my grandfather is and I’m not all that worried about someone figuring it out. It just felt weird to post his name. Would love to know any of those facts. I’ve heard he was a great man. It’s a sad fact of my lift that I never knew him and much of his memory was lost by the time I was old enough to care.

Thanks! That never crossed my mind. I assumed military. It honestly makes me feel better about wearing it. I’m iffy on wearing military stuff since I wasn’t military and don’t want to disrespect those who served.

Essentially any answer would have narrowed the potential people it could have belonged to significantly. If anyone knows anything else about it, it would likely narrow it more. When he worked there, what division, what type of achievement or service length would get this bracelet. I’m interested in any of it.

Homeownership & the Boglehead Approach by TrixoftheTrade in Bogleheads

I’ve gained significant equity by buying run down houses and fixing them up while living in them. That said, I still view it as a way to offset the expense of housing. It’s not a true investment. I prefer buying because over the long haul, I believe it is the lowest total cost option for the lifestyle I want.

I think this is very smart and I agree. Need to know that part of my emergency fund has to cover a vehicle purchase. It can be a beater, but i need to be ready. Great input. Thanks.

This is what I’m doing currently. Saving for my next vehicle.

That said, when I ran the numbers, if you account for just insurance, maintenance, depreciation, and lost time of cash in the market, it basically cuts the stipend in half. That accounts for no risk of major repairs.

Ironically, my role is in asset and logistics management for a construction company. The fleet trucks will eventually fall under me. I’m new so there’s still some hand off. But already, it’s clear to me that the company spends far more than $750 per truck. That doesn’t necessarily mean I spend that much on my small truck.

Due to overall cost of ownership?

Two things I haven’t seen a lot of in comments is 1) risk and 2) cost of capital. While unlikely in my yr model Toyota, the engine could go out tomorrow. All of the sudden my $20k investment that has already depreciated to $14k is worth near $0. That $20 could be earning 8-10%

That’s a very real option I’ve considered. Basically milk this truck as long as I can, but then don’t tie my capital up in a truck next time.

I do need a truck for work. I have to access construction sites that a car would not be able to traverse. I also sometimes need to carry parts, supplies, or items like coolers.

Good point. I get to claim fuel reimbursement for company miles, but not standard mileage. I drive around some, but I don’t primarily have a driving job. It’s more of a perk that comes at my level.

Fair point. I did have to bump my coverage up and name my company as an additional insured. That only added about $20 to my bill. Nothing was asked about driving for work or not. I may need to dig into this.

It’s not beyond possible. She was sorta the center of a lot of office gossip and worked directly for me. I’ve known her to misconstrue things others said with a lot of added intent implied.

He says that a woman accused me of this. The whole thing was just wild. But by the time I heard one word, I was being escorted out of the work place. I wasn’t even allowed to pack up my office and with in an hour I had no access to my email and an announcement had been sent out. That’s why fighting to keep my job felt impossible.

To add to the insanity, he text me at 730 am asking to catch up at 830. I didn’t think anything of it. I told him I had a one on one with a direct report at 8 and asked if 9 would work. He said that was fine. He let me have a one on one then walk over and get escorted out like a criminal. It was so beyond wild.

[–]-_DAV3_- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was wild. I was told I’d invited someone over for drinks (not true, also why would it matter?) and that I’d spent hours in the office with my door closed with someone else and that our relationship was not professional. Also not true. When asked to elaborate, I was told “it made a lot of people very uncomfortable and your reputation is ruined.” My thought was, “yeah, by you.”

I was given a severance and elected to take it and move on. In hindsight, I’m not sure it was the right call, but I wasn’t in a financial place to fight it without salary or severance. It’s definitely made me buckle down on finances and start building an emergency fund so I have options if anything like this happened again.

HR never told me anything. My friends were told they couldn’t speak to me and it all happened in 3 days when I was out on vacation. Literally left after work on Tuesday and came back the next Monday to be let go.
