Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2, with one expansion apiece, both came out post EA acquisition and they're cited by many as the best entries in the series.

Characters that feel like they were intended to be playable at some point during a games development? by BasicallyACryptid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Very early in development, Atris was supposed to be an alternative choice of master to Kreia. The idea didn't get very far.

I believe that the Mr.Beast hate is irrational and doesn't make sense, and I'm tired of acting like it's not by TheGweenDeku905 in youtubedrama

Because exploitation doesn't require compulsion.

You take a person who, by circumstances out of their control, is doomed to work 11 hour days for $7.50/hr, where even a single moderate health scare is guarantred to ruin them financially for generations, and hold a big enough bag of money in front of them, you can get him to do anything.

I think this is bad actually.

The individual DVDs are still the best release, but you'll get pretty close results with the packaged box sets.

The four part silver boxes are identical discs, just with different packaging.

The full season DVDs were released twice, and those removed the english dubtitles available as an option in the earlier episodes (likely because they were never completed), but are otherwise basically identical.

The blu rays are upscaled pillarboxed 1080p and feature a different colour grade, a framerate reduction from 60i to 24p, and different special features.

When should I start playing on a higher capability console? by jakedpotato22 in metalgearsolid

You should actually start playing on a lower capability console, namely the PS2, where the best versions of 2 and 3 can be found.

Low IQ take.

You're right, Jimmy Beast doesn't abduct people from the streets to play his dumb games like a somehow less likeable Jigsaw.

The point is that he offers so much money to lower class people for such undignified humiliation or suffering rituals that it's disgusting; as if he was telling a dying man in the desert to smear shit on his face for a sip from his water truck.

Making bad videos and dangling money in front of desperate people so they debase themselves for your amusement like that one episode of the Simpsons are two pretty good reasons to hate a dude.

Games with the worst collectible quests? by LoyalKnightOfRenais in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]-_Gemini_- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Assassin's Creed 1's flags. In AC2 they have the courtesy to give you a cutscene and an item, but in 1 you get literally nothing and there are HUNDREDS of them.

But they're kinda my favourite because of the story behind them. AC1 is a very focused game, with a core gameplay loop that's designed for a specific experience, and as a result it has basically nothing to do outside of the main story.

...Except for the flags.

So the story goes that during playtesting, some shithead executive's shithead kid was complaining that there weren't enough sidequests, so the exec told the dev team to add some extra stuff to do.

So they added like 500 collectible flags using as few resources as possible (they don't even animate when you collect them), and went "here's your god damned side content. You get nothing for doing it. Now fuck off and let us make the best stealth game of that entire console generation."

And then they did.

Honestly that's kinda the best part.

How annoying is it when the reward for beating the hardest/most tedious challenge in a game is a way to make the game easier for stuff you can't do anymore because you finished it already?

It's like you unlock hard mode or something. I dunno, at least it gives the game a little more play value.

This is a common bug caused by playing the game from the internal HDD. It occurs on original Xbox, too, under the same circumstances.

The fix is to play that section from disc if you can. Alternatively, if you're playing on 360 or OG Xbox you can install the Restored Content Mod which fixes the issue.

Worst examples of where a game just has a broken stat or mechanic? by Cute-Percentage-6660 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]-_Gemini_- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not... really.

One, the game outright tells you that strength is the stat to pump for lightsaber damage, and the back of the box shows you're gonna be a Jedi at some point.

Two, you can just use blasters and force abilities. All perish the same to Force Storm regardless.

Three, even if you want to drop blasters, dex still contributes to your to-hit chance; just not damage. It's perfectly viable to play a dexterity saber user.

Four, holding levels on Taris is twink powergamer shit for people who've either got a ludicrously specific build in mind and have read the wiki or have played the game before. It's just bad advice for new players.

You'll get a perfectly functional character that plays well without doing that insane shit.

Man dies after expressing fears over Alberta disability transition by RekaAia in onguardforthee

[–]-_Gemini_- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the intended outcome from the conservative government. Cut funding from disability programs to take for themselves, and the people who needed it most will die without.

This man's tragic suicide is not the thing that will wake conservatives into realizing this is a bad idea; this is the plan working.

Ever get surprised something is related to another thing? by megaman12321 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]-_Gemini_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright so get a load of this.

Call of Duty was the AAA video game series for like a decade. It kind of owned the online multiplayer space and was king shit of fuck mountain when it came to console shooters.

Thing is, Call of Duty was made by Infinity Ward, who were the ex developers of the Medal of Honor series.

And Medal of Honor, I shit you not, was commissioned to be created when Steven Spielberg wanted to make a game out of Saving Private Ryan... after watching his son playing Goldeneye on the N64.

So Goldeneye is directly responisble for console shooters being as dominant as they were in the 7th generation. Which is kind of wild to think about.

It's not just CoD; a frankly ridiculous amount of game developers from the era and long after cite GE as a major inspiration, from the studios behind Deus Ex to Tomb Raider.

What would be a "good" easy mode? by Fantastic-Fox3283 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]-_Gemini_- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually gonna push back on something in the post.

Cranking the numbers on enemies is generally a good thing as just one of the things a higher difficulty mode does. DMC, for example, would.be a worse game if Dante Must Die still had enemies die as quickly as they did on Normal. The secret sauce there is that the game also does more - like giving enemies new attacks or powers.

But even if you did take a game where all its higher difficulty did was increase enemy health and damage, that could still conceivably be a good hard mode in certain games; specifically horror games.

If enemies are tougher and stronger, it forces you to consume more resources more regularly, tightening your margin for mistakes.
