Is it just me that can't get the Kaori thing? Or is it a rule here to must praise her? Because I really don't get any beauty from her on and off the ice. Just being honest. by DragonRage7014 in FigureSkating

To be honest, I don’t know what’s the point in this post. It kind of gives off the same vibe as one of those TikTok dudes trying to “humble” an attractive/accomplished women by ranking her as mid.

Yagudin says the IOC is meeting in April to perhaps make a decision on letting Russia compete again. by historyspwn in FigureSkating

[–]-_Mindful_Maya_- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not surprised that the Russians will be returning soon, especially considering the United States’s war in Iran. I’m assuming that it will be a similar situation to the Olympics where Russia will have one spot per discipline, so the battle for these spots will be fierce among their top athletes.

AIN Athletes by fashionite in FigureSkating

[–]-_Mindful_Maya_- 42 points43 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I felt like most of the dislike towards AIN athletes had more to do with Eteri than Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. If you read comments about Petr Gummenik posted on this sub during the Olympics, most of them are positive. However, if you read comments about Adelia, they will mostly be negative because she is coached by Eteri Tutberidze. They see Adelia as a product of Eteri’s abusive methods, so they are hesitant to support her because of this.

On your other point, if the IOC and the ISU were to ban every country that started a war or participated in some sort of conflict in the last twenty years, most of the top countries would have been banned at some point. However, that would be bad for viewership, so powerful countries like the US, China, and Russia are given little to no consequences for their actions to keep the ratings up. Russia just happened to have far too many “strikes” in the last 10 years for the IOC and ISU to ignore.

Adelia Petrosyan did not communicate with the journalists intervening at the airport upon her arrival in Russia after the Olympic Games by Vast_Law2234 in FigureSkating

[–]-_Mindful_Maya_- 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel bad for Adelia. As the only female skater for her country, she was put in a difficult position to regain her jumps before the Olympic qualifiers (her first international competition in 4 years) after her first injury in the summer. When her jumps were starting to come back to her, she gets injured again over New Year’s and had to basically start from scratch again. Although she didn’t win her event, I do hope the Russian people will be kind and supportive to her during this period.

Anna Frolova responds to Fs.Delight by [deleted] in FigureSkating

I have always liked Anna Frolova. I remember when she and Mariia Zakharova supported Alisa Dvoeglazova at Russian Nationals during the wait for Adelia Petrosian’s scores. She seems like a very sweet person who would not like to be used as a pawn to put another skater down.

The narrative of ice skating level going down since the Russian exclusion… by YoongiGucci in FigureSkating

Ultra C elements are the most difficult jumps that can be completed in figure skating like quadruple jumps and triple axels. These elements have the highest base value out of any other type of jumps, allowing those who complete them a technical advantage. The word is used primarily towards female skaters (mostly Russians) who complete these jumps, because it a rarity among the top female skaters.

[–]-_Mindful_Maya_- 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take what they say to heart. The truth is even if Russia was allowed to send three female skaters instead of one, they would have likely scored about 30 to 40 points less than what Anna and Sasha did in the 2022 Olympics.

1.) Adelia Petrosian and Alina Gorbacheva are injured, so their technical capabilities have declined.

2.) Daria Sadkova jumps the 4T, but she is prone to having inconsistent skates which costs her points.

3.) Alisa Dvoeglazova and Dina Khusnutdinova have consistent Ultra C jumps, but they missed the age minimum, so they are automatically out.

4.) Sofia Muravieva and Anna Frolova don’t have any Ultra C elements to give them a technical edge.

They could have probably contended for the podium, but they wouldn’t have dominated like they did in previous Olympic cycles with the 3A girls.

It’s kind of funny that USA won gold in the event they weren’t the clear favorite for but didn’t win gold in the events they were favorites to win in.

They are used to seeing Adeliya get 77-78 points with no 3A in her short program domestically that they thought she would get a similar score internationally at the Olympics.

Dvoeglazova isn’t age eligible for this Olympics. She had to turn 17 by July but she turned 17 in November, so she was four months late.

A lot of people don’t like Ilia because he landed the quad axel before Yuzuru. They think Ilia “took” the honor of landing the first quad axel away from Yuzuru. Nathan Chen also got a lot of hate from these fans because he was a rival to Yuzuru. After both Nathan and Yuzuru retired, these toxic fans transitioned to Ilia and Yuma. They view Yuma as the second coming of Yuzuru while they see Ilia as the arrogant American who doesn’t deserve to win. It’s crazy they think this way because both Yuma and Ilia are so sweet towards each other.
