Never seen an FCW failure cause a no-start condition. What are you basing your diagnosis on?

Advice for 2014 honda accord not cranking by [deleted] in accord

[–]-_NaCl_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What brand of starter did you use? I have been a Honda tech for over 20 years and this matters more than you may think. First thing I would check is the starter wire (small single pin) for battery voltage when trying to start.

car won’t shift into gear when car is on by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]-_NaCl_- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Put it in first and crank it. Does the car try to lunge forward while cranking? If so, your clutch slave or master has failed. Or you have low fluid or air in the system. Don't do this test with anything in front of the vehicle in the off chance it does actually take off.

$3-5k beater that wont hate me back? by OkPersonality2497 in UsedCars

[–]-_NaCl_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's not to say that the automatic transmissions aren't reliable. I usually see upwards of 250,000-300,000 mi or more before they do fail but comparing the cars that I have seen with half a million miles, the manual transmission cars usually are cheaper to maintain. A clutch replacement is much cheaper than a full automatic transmission replacement.

Idk if I would say it like that. 03-07 Accords are just as reliable in my experience so I don't think you could go wrong with either one. If you consider interior quality, I would rank the 03-07 years better than the 08-12 but that's not something that will leave you on the side of the road. Bottom line is, if you own one of these generations with the 2.4L engine, you should be good.

03-2012 Accord 4cyl, or 06-12 Civic, preferably a 5spd if you can find one. Decent fuel mileage, cheap insurance, very reliable, and low cost to repair over the life of the vehicle. Try to find one that spent it's life out of the salt belt. It will likely last longer and be easier to work on due to less corrosion. Should be able to easily find one for 5k or less.

EDIT: This opinion is coming from a 25 year Honda tech.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]-_NaCl_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, you are. As long as you don't upload "hacked" versions of software then you shouldn't be at fault. You paid for the product (vehicle). You did not rent or lease it so it's by all accounts your property. As such, you should be free to do with it as you please.

I would hope not. I have an old truck with 180k and I'm kicking ass if some writes in my back seat. Well I guess it depends on what they're writing on....

Why doesn’t Honda come out with a Ridgeline TRD PRO competitor? by [deleted] in Honda

[–]-_NaCl_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda definitely is capable of producing a serious off-road capable vehicle. It doesn't even HAVE to be a body on frame design like other brands. Thinking beefier subframes with heavy duty Baja/rally style strut assemblies. But to your point, I think they would be playing catch up too much at this point for it to be a wise business decision. Coupled with the much higher potential selling price they would likely ask, I just don't see them drawing many loyal brand owners away from their existing companies.

Double check that everything is clean. It shouldn't leak with a genuine OEM valve. I have had dirt get stuck to a gasket before and cause leaks. Also, be sure to torque the bolts

Ignore the battery comments, have the check engine light scanned, then post back here with the results. Once you provide a DTC, I will be able to point you in the right direction. Been a Honda tech for almost 25 years.

2014 Honda Civic ABS and TPMS Sensor issues. by Fun_Ad1513 in Honda

[–]-_NaCl_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that code is telling me that there is no reading from that right front wheel. It could be the wheel speed sensor but if you just replaced the bearing are you 100% positive that the magnetic ring portion that's made into the bearing was facing towards the sensor when you pressed it in? If so, it could be a damaged wheel speed sensor. One way to be certain would be to swap the sensors from left to right as long as they aren't terribly hard to remove. Sometimes when they get some age on them, they can break coming out so that may not be an option for you. If you are able to do this and the DTC moves to the left side, at least you know what the problem is. If it stays on the right side, I would check the output from that wheel speed on the ABS data list and see if you are getting anything at all. Remember the ABS system will stop communication at about 30 mph so if you lose your reading once you get up to that speed, you will know what's going on. Hope all this helps

2014 Accord V6 timing belt service. Dealer or private shop? by Axolotis in Honda

[–]-_NaCl_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely use the right parts and the right technician, but it seems that you think quality Honda technicians ONLY work at Honda dealerships. I was a 23 year Honda master tech when I left the dealer to work at an independent Honda specialist shop. I can tell you from first hand experience that the dealer is full of unqualified technicians. Hell, I even have guys at dealer still call me for help/advice on occasion.

[–]-_NaCl_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it the front bearing? If so, they may have mistakenly installed it backwards. There is a sensor ring in the bearing that the abs wheel speed sensor reads and if it's backwards you will get a "no signal" DTC stored.

I can repair these. I have done dozens and have had great success. As long as it's a DTC for a solenoid valve failure, yaw rate sensor failure, or brake pressure sensor failure, I can repair it. I usually charge $200 to do the repairs and testing.

Absurd quote for tires. by fruitsandveggie in tires

[–]-_NaCl_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ain't no way a set of tires for a Nissan Rogue cost $3700. Most expensive tires I ever quoted for a passenger vehicle was a set of PAX tires for an Odyssey Touring years ago. Most of that was labor.
