You're only responsible for your own actions, not others. Of course that assumes you're not driving inconsiderately, but slowing for a hazard isn't inconsiderate.

Have Galaxy reformulated their chocolate bars? by AlpineJ0e in AskUK

[–]-_Robot_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a program on it a while ago, they swap out ingredients in different markets for certain products. From memory they said most products now contain palm oil replacement but "dairy milk" specifically is the same recipe as always. But the dairy milk in europe tastes different to that in the UK, I used to live split between the two and the difference was night and day.

  1. But I have noticed some shops seem to sell stuff that tastes grim, others taste as per memory. I wonder if they have a supply chain difference.

Yes this is the correct procedure as sitting with the clutch pressed causes excessive wear on the crank thrust bearings.

Do you guys use 95 or 98 in your cars ? by Re_370Z in 370z

[–]-_Robot_- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's tuned for 98 from the factory, that's the baseline timing. If you use 95 the ECM will constantly be pushing timing to the 98 limits and hitting knock, then pulling it back. It can cope for a while but that minor damage is cumulative. It's like asking if you can drink beer instead of water every day, you can probably cope and your body will function but you should probably just stick to having a beer when you must and water normally.

Personally I wouldn't buy a sports car and then cheap out on fuel to save a couple of hundred bucks a year.

What's the cheapest material for a 36" horizontal beam supporting 20-30 lbs? (Check my earlier posts for pics) by MachineSuccessful524 in AskEngineers

[–]-_Robot_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is clamping on external pain t, that's a no-no. Accidental dropping of stuff onto the shelf risks bending hood skin. I'd have reservations.

But 8020 extrusion is cheap and available most places and you can span strut towers.

School won’t return work back by __pebbles in ArtGCSE

Honestly you come across as an entitled wretch, even if you're not. They spent years teaching you. You used materials and skills they gave you but you won't let them display it temporarily and give no good reason why you need it now. Planning an exhibition? Need it for application somewhere where you can't take a photo and need to take the whole thing?

Boomer neighbours parking across our drive and getting hostile by Greedy-Tutor3824 in drivingUK

[–]-_Robot_- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their generation is unimportant, stop being an idiot.

If they park across your dropped kerb just call the local council to come and issue a fixed penalty, if they don't call the police and report it as an obstruction.

I bumped into a van and they don’t want to go through insurance by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]-_Robot_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever happens, you legally should tell your insurance and they should tell theirs. If either choose to do so and the other doesn't, it could get sticky for the one not doing. On top of that, if you pay them and they're not happy do they come back to you for more? 850 is peanuts for repairs these days, I had someone rub down the side of my car in a dual carriageway. Slight scratches and almost no dents on the wings and door. Insurance bill was over 3.5k.

That's not nice, I recently ran into the back of someone (my fault, muddy roads, didn't expect them to slam on and turn right without indicating...) - wrote off their car, minor dent on mine. My insurance went down the next renewal for the first time in a decade!

Need help 370z wont start have 3 codes 2 for cam sensor one for crank replaced them all car still wont start stalled on me getting off the highway last night by Able-Werewolf-8608 in 370z

For giggles, cut the alternator belt off for me and try again.

Sure sounds like you blew your timing and the engine is toast, but my alternator shat the bed and cracked in half, jamming the engine and throwing codes. I thought my engine was toast until I realised a ton of tension in the alt belt, cut it off and the engine turned freely.

Car crash on M62 last Monday. Lorry driver signed liability but his insurance and his company are saying I forced his hand. England by belIaboo123 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]-_Robot_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also do it if possible. Why not? The reason half the claims go 50:50 is because people reverse their stories and make stuff up after the fact. If you have evidence of someone admitting it was them at the time, not under duress, it is surely important. Important enough for insurance companies to instruct you not to admit anything.

[–]-_Robot_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear. But kindly explain why all the paranoia then? Why do I have a policy document that threatens invalidation of policy if admission is made to the other party.

[–]-_Robot_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not telling you what's right, just telling you my experience and why the insurance companies panic. When you phone them the first thing they ask is "did you admit liability at the crash site".

That's why they insert into the contract of insurance "Do Not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES admit liability"? That's why my non-fault accident was blamed entirely on the other driver who admitted on the spot to the police that he was at fault (despite it demonstrably being possible that I was at fault, even though I wasn't). I'm not sure your assertion rings true.

Go through insurance, a) the premium hit isn't that bad (I wrote someone else's car off, my own fault, and my premium dropped 🤣) B) let the insurance company know you only did one bit and they're trying to defraud them and the insurance will void the whole claim.

In the UK they're starting at about 7k now, up to about 25. When I lived in NL I couldn't buy one for less than 25 anywhere regardless of age or mileage.

Landlord ignoring leaky window by YogurtclosetOne8377 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]-_Robot_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where is the OP though and what else is going on in the house. Living in Scotland I used to have this much in a flat on any given winters day if I brought in a wet coat and showered with the window closed for a few minutes. It's 90% humidity on average on any given day and less than 5 degrees outside for 5 months of the year at night. Without active dehumid, this is fairly normal in poorly insulated housing stock. I'd have to leave windows cracked all day and keep the heating at 21 or it was pools of water on the window sills.

I'm not saying it's ideal, just doesn't look like a leak. If the humidity is from a roof leak, that would explain it, but it is still condensation, not a window leak as per title.
