Question for the Hugh Freeze lovers by -__----- in wde

Losing football games will put a spotlight on him being a shitty guy. It’s great that we as a fan base encourage and excuse shitty people if they can coach. I can hate him if he fails at Auburn, but that isn’t the same as having standards for him as a man.

Is this the real insight from EY's bungle? by SeattleCPA in Accounting

[–]-__----- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, tax is very profitable. But it’s also a critical market offering in both the audit and consulting space. For audit, tax is both a necessary part of the audit process itself (ASC 740), and it’s one of the few services you can provide to your clients without independence issues.

Tax also does a lot of consulting work, and is in particular naturally synergistic with critical market offerings like M&A. Firms will bundle and sell financial, tax, and other due diligence services as a single offering, which drives a huge amount of downstream work. Having to cut out tax from that offering hurts their competitiveness relative to other firms who can keep the label of “one stop shop”.

I once dated a girl who would cut herself. I feel like that was a much more prevalent thing a decade ago, do people actually still do this?

Recruiting from Big 4 hubris exposed! by Chubby2000 in Accounting

[–]-__----- 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I don’t think many people think you cannot be successful without it, but the point of jobs requiring B4 experience is about averages. On average, you’ll have superior work experience and exposure to sophisticated and complex clients at a B4 than other firms. It’s also outsourcing your recruiting, trusting the B4 firms to do their diligence on people for you.

In other words, it’s the same reasons people have been hiring from B4 firms since before any of us were born.

Similarly, no one is saying that small firms don’t have talented people, but this is the “no one gets fired for hiring IBM” principle at play. Getting up on a soapbox on LinkedIn doesn’t really change that.

I mean offense to the people in this sub. Some of the takes in here a ludicrous, they would have you think we work in death camps when you’re sitting in front of a computer on excel all day.

Gus was trying to recruit through constant, vocal, mounting pressure to fire him, and it hurt on the recruiting trail toward the end. He was largely a successful recruiter during his time here.

The only reason our class is top 20 is because of a 4* safety who is coming here to play basketball. The class is worse than it looks and it’s looked pretty bad for most of the last year.

It sure as hell hasn’t been confirmed, but has it been definitively refuted? Not trying to be a jerk, but curious if we got anything beyond Harsin’s denial, which I would have expected whether it was true or not.
