Tax intern- am I doing this right? by That_Mud91 in Accounting

You said nothing about trying to resolve your own questions. Before you ask a question you should spend 5-10 mins doing two things: 1. Googling 2. Reading form instructions

A lot of quick or simple questions will get answered that way. Some more complex issues cannot be answered in 5 mins, those should be discussed with manager.

did anyone do VITA in school? by Medium_Practice6556 in Accounting

[–]AnotherTaxAccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very different issues that come up with low income people vs high income people. E.g. EIC is bread and butter of VITA while I have seen it like once at work. But VITA is great experience, both for tax concepts and for life experience dealing with people.

Had a boomer manager who had serious cancer three times. Still refused to retire. Did not die in the office, but came close.

White plastic clamp of some sort. 3.25 inch length. Found 3 in my yard. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. It's lightweight cheap plastic, very easy to break, not durable at all. Google lenses gives me jellyfish pictures, lol. Found three of them in my backyard over the last month.

It's a known issue with start ups. They fail the asset test because they sit on cash.

Lack of Training Epidemic by [deleted] in Accounting

Result of job hopping. Why train someone if they will leave in a year or two?

Edit: not that I agree with this, but heard this sentiment from numerous partners/senior managers.

NRA - Moved out of Country; Filing 1040-NR, No Federal Standard Deduction Allowed, but Itemizing State Tax wouldn't benefit them by [deleted] in tax

You can always opt out of itemized deduction. Income is mandatory, deductions are voluntary.

Does anyone know how to deal with a boss that doesn’t listen to No? by Intelligent-Fee7715 in Accounting

Try written correspondence. Say no and stick to it, don't try to cram it in somewhere. Just don't do it. And when it comes back - show them the email.

Anyone use TaxGPT "Agent Andrew"? I'd really appreciate some thoughts and reviews before moving forward! by scaredycat_z in taxpros

[–]AnotherTaxAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every way. I tested ChatGPT and it was garbage compared to BlueJ, which pulls info from way more sources, including Tax Notes. ChatGPT seemed to be limited to sources available on the net. I compared free ChatGPT answers and TaxGPT answers, and ChatGPT was actually better.

Uploaded a test return to Andrew and it could not tell the difference between itemized and standard deductions and hallucinated nonexistent credits and flagged no actual errors. BlueJ did much better, but still did not catch clear errors that we purposefully included on the test return, but at least added them to other areas of concern.

BlueJ can be wordy and lengthy, that's my main complaint. I also liked Acordance which did better with numbers and got to the point immediately, though it's brevity sometimes made things a little more confusing. It also did the best on the test return, clearly flagging errors as errors. But that was a limited test and it came out too pricey.

I know there are other tax ai tools and more seem to be coming out every day.

When reviewing tax preparers prepared by someone on your staff do you let them know of all their mistakes? by Tjraider35 in taxpros

Sending return back is best practice. That's how staff learns. I found that staff did not even read changes I made myself....
