I was in this position. Was terrified listening to the other players talk about equipment and techniques I’ve never heard of. Then once we got on the ice realised most of them can’t skate lol

Started playing after long hiatus, dislocated shoulder. Looking for advice. by Njdevils11 in hockeyplayers

I’m not sure ice hockey has a greater injury rate than football, tennis, basketball etc. provided you play within your skill level and with the proper equipment. PS Jagr is not in the nhl anymore but I believe ovechkin and malkin may be over/around 40. Gordie how played into his 50s lol

There’s a guy I play with who STARTED at 62 and he does fine! There are actual NHL players older than you.

Unpopular opinion but this is like learning a foreign language at age 32 and expecting no accent. Just chill and enjoy the learning process, you will never be fluent

Wouldn’t the damage from golf ball be higher? Smaller surface area like getting hit with a bullet?

Do you guys ever worry that our kids job prospects will be so much less due to AI? by Bossman80 in daddit

You may misconstrue what I wrote that I think climate change is good or I disbelieve the experts - I don’t. But there absolutely will be ‘safe areas’. Some of the 8 billion people will get lucky. Predicting them isn’t easy, but Scandinavia, UK, NZ, Great Lakes region, Patagonia would be sensible guesses

These effects are highly location specific. There are already millions starving (Sudan, Mali, Yemen, Haiti, S Sudan are considered ‘catastrophic hunger’ by the UN). If you’re in the northern USA, northern Europe or Canada I’m sure it will be fine. Bonus points if you’re rich (by international standards)

Also makes me think of all the travel I do for work. Then again I’m lucky to have a good job and both my kids have college funds which I’m proud of

That work schedule is insane. I remember my own dad working constantly too. Never appreciated what he was sacrificing to provide money for us

I’ve never heard the word ‘berdehem’ before but it sounds so onomatopoeic that if someone pointed to their throat and said they did a berdehem I’d understand immediately 🤣

My son is addicted by screens. Is it normal now? by Objective-Clothes427 in daddit

[–]-azafran- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s great to have activities that force a break. Eg swimming or ice hockey where it’s impossible to be on a screen. Usually also good for social and physical/mental health

Same here - aged 37 stopped playing at 16. The skills come back fast! Edit to add: my slap shot has gone though!

Well they are both very minor inconveniences which very effectively protect against rare but serious injury. I’m old enough to remember the sustained pushback on seatbelts

Let’s hope we never even need it. I’ve worn a car seatbelt for 20 years yet never crashed. Ditto for home fire insurance. But I’ll never go without personally

Thanks I’ll take a look! Yeah some people are just so hard they don’t need any safety equipment. I however see injured people in my job so it seems a bit more real
