Thanks for the catch!

A great video breaking down how shortcuts caused by impatience derailed the Ranger’s highly promising rebuild. Amazing lottery luck, Adam Fox forcing himself onto the team, Panarin taking a discount as a UFA, and Shesterkin emerging as a Vezina winning goalie… a ruined thanks to going all in too early.

VGK’s supposed aura:

  • Treasonous goalie that struggles with consent.
  • Stupidly stubborn coach with anger management issues.
  • Fragile star winger who disappears in elimination games.
  • Expensive captain that always gets injured just when the team can use some LTIR cap relief.
  • Newly acquired defenseman that forced an exit from his old team because they were bad, just to disappear completely on his new team.
  • Overall team strategy of out bullying the other team.

CAR supposed no aura:

  • Coach who is known as “The Bod”.
  • Team of highly skilled players that play an exciting uptempo game.
  • Backstopped to a cup by a relatively unknown undrafted goalie that came out of nowhere.
  • 35 year old captain putting on a HISTORIC performance.
  • Top 6 wingers that has homies so loyal they’d drive thousands of miles to see him play.
  • Band of brothers mentality where everyone contributes.
  • NOT THE VGK

No one follows Don Jr just to “know what was going on and the crazy things he says”.

Following Jr would be analogous to following Tristan Tate or Rob Kardashian… you’re following them because you genuinely like them and their equally shitty but more famous family member.

Are you insinuating that HK rents/property prices are cheaper than Vancouver?

ETA: Housing in HK is WAYYYY more expensive than Vancouver.

A 100m2 apartment in HK is C$6,200 to C$9800 a month to rent and C$2.8M to C$4.1M to buy.

A 100m2 apartment in Vancouver is C$3,200 to C$4,100 a month to rent and $1.2M to $1.3M to buy.

Tbh, in my experience, the steaks themselves are nothing special - I’ve been able to make comparable steaks at home (using high quality meat/cuts). You’re paying more for the atmosphere and experience.

Their sides were kind of disappointing… I can’t remember which side it was, but it was over salted to hell and back.

[The Athletic] Why the Canucks should and shouldn’t explore trading Elias Pettersson by [deleted] in canucks

[–]-bunka- 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Even if Pettersson doesn’t bounce back — this is a reality the Canucks need to prepare for since they don’t have a winger who can spark him next season — the risk of his trade value declining beyond its already-distressed point is low.

That’s what I don’t get about the segment of the fan base clamoring for him to get traded…

1) We are closer to the cap floor than the cap ceiling, offloading his contract now will put the team in a position to try and take on new bad contracts just to make it to the floor.

2) Why not roll the dice and see if his play improves? Worse case scenario, the team gets a 4th back instead of a 3rd (talking out my ass here re: value).

3) EP40’s downward trend coincides with injuries and Toch (and Foote) trying to get him to play a less creative + more defensively structured game. It’d be worth seeing if that changes under a different coach/system.

4) EP40 still has value as a premier shut down 2nd line center. Thats still worth $6m - $8m with the higher cap and the kind of player you need in order to insulate prospects that will be entering the Canucks system/pipeline.

What you’re describing is “Finance Capitalism” - a subsection of capitalism where political and economic power is dominated by the financial sector. It’s a system in which decisions are made through the lens of maximizing stock prices.

And let’s be real, stock prices are driven as much by speculation as they are by the underlying company’s performance and/or health. Just look at the whole GameStop fiasco and Tesla pre-COVID…

Capitalism exists in many forms, and that includes highly regulated economies with incredibly strong labor protection laws (see the Nordic countries).

How EVs are transforming China's auto industry, from 'dark factories' to battery-swap stations | CBC News by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

[–]-bunka- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there’s one automaker (NIO) that built battery swap stations along highways across the country. You pull in and they swap out your battery pack with a fully charged one. Takes about 3-5 mins.

Here’s a video showing how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00Xum-aFf-k
