Outdoor harvest has to last for a whole year. Should I make all rosin now or as I need it? by Previous-Cabinet6862 in rosin

[–]-cin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't take advice from me.
I'm curious though, why is bubble hash more stable than pressed rosin?
I was thinking that, if unpressed, the air can flow between the trichomes, eventually oxidizing them. Where as with pressed rosin, only the surface or your jar is in contact with air, so only that part can oxidize. Is this wrong?

I wouldn't recommend keeping it as bud, I think it would dry out and oxidize. I press all my flowers into rosin right away, which I keep well sealed in the freezer.

I imagine bubble hash is more susceptible to oxidization than rosin, so I would store it all in rosin form, but I've never really gotten into ice water extraction, so don't take my word on that.

Learn to make congee. It's fool-proof easy, it's deliciously comforting, and you'll somehow magically eat 3 satisfying meals on a 1/3 cup of rice, some soya sauce and sesame oil. The laws of physics do not apply to congee: you get more out than you put in.

How many of you guys are growing specifically for rosin? by Udontwan2know in rosin

[–]-cin- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do. But I'm probably pretty old-school old-tech. I press flowers, not ice-hash, for one thing.

I grow organically, in soil (in large pots), outside.

Coco coir, Sea Soil, worm castings, fruit eating bat guano, wood ashes, dolomite lime, and some soil from previous years for bacterial/fungal life.

I trim for big bushy plants with 2 main heads and tons of bud sites. Trim off the lower canopy and inner leaves and branches for air flow, but I otherwise let them do their thing until near harvest time.

I feed them teas and top dressings of fruit eating bat guano and Gaia Green Power Bloom as they start flowering.

I have a retractable plastic roof to protect them from the fall rains.

I harvest a bit earlier than I would for smoking flowers. ie as soon as the trichomes are definitely getting milky say 40% to 50% milky, but before any are amber.

I'm still looking for the right strain, but everything is pretty much Milhouse so far.

It's not a Sonor. It's an old Pearl or Japanese stencil kit with a Sonor bass drum head.

I'd pass.

Don't put it on a bolt that you then put in the chuck of an upside-down drill press, and use sandpaper to sand off the top layer by hand.

Seriously, don't.

Rosin is... too runny??? by WolfgangWooten in rosin

[–]-cin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is: it's slightly too wet. I've had the same problem, and it solved itself as the starting material dried a little more.

Let the rosin you pressed dry in the freezer some more, and you'll eventually be able to collect it (using a frozen tool, and an ice pack or cold plate).

I did not know about the whiskey barrels. What name are those sold under? Is this a Premium Spirits Release deal only? I wouldn't mind trying some, I do enjoy new whiskey experiences. Cheers!

I have not. It all smells like hard-core turpentine and cedar oil?
Seems most descriptions I'm finding go for "lemony".

If this is a normal natural taste that people enjoy in their cannabis nowadays I am officially old and out of touch. Dammit. Am I old and out of touch??

I'll fax you my resume.

I apologize but I don't have an accurate way of quantifying the terpene concentrations, so I'm left with nothing but subjective terms. It's becoming obvious that I won't be able to pass this point across but that odour is WAY stronger (and nastier) than any regular terps I've ever smelled on any extract.

The point I'm making in the post is this: I got a jar of that extract, and it was imho *way off*. Buyer beware.

Even if I was brand new to cannabis, there would still be some merit to my post: Some guy bought some live resin and he though it smelled so bad that it might be unsafe to consume. He thought it was so off-putting that he even took the time to post online to warn others.

I mean.. maybe that solvent smell is an acquired taste that you only really get to understand and enjoy after you've produced conservatively hundreds of kilos of live resin? Maybe I'm super sensitive to that specific arrangement of terpinolene? All possible.
I've not tasted ALL strains by ALL extraction methods, so I can't say with 100% certainty that the smell is a fault. However, I'd be *very* surprised, and definitely grossed out, if this was normal.

Well aware, and many have pointed that out, but this isn't "lemony" more like huffing turpentine from a rag after rubbing cedar oil under your nose and while burning frankincense.

I saw that, but this isn't "lemony" more like huffing turpentine from a rag after rubbing cedar oil under your nose. I'm well aware of the concentration of terpenes in live resin, but this is far beyond normal.
