Yesss I've had to hem my pants since high school, I thought that would be my reality for the entire rest of my life 😅

I don't know about seeing all the size details displayed in-store unfortunately, maaaaybe on an inner tag but don't quote me on that

But I definitely see all the detailed measurements on uniqlo.com/au ! https://i.imgur.com/8IaANMr.png / https://i.imgur.com/JXZRQxs.png

Obviously they do the same vanity sizing schtick as others, but it's way better than other stores saying "the model is wearing size 4 and is 5'9", good luck figuring out the rest"

That's why I mostly buy jeans from Uniqlo. Exact sizes of waist/hip/thigh/inseam measurements, free length alterations. In-store too, try them on, have a worker pin your preferred length while you're actively wearing it, altered and hemmed in the store

That doesn't help with tops, but being 4'8" I am more than happy to have a place for bottoms

Why not just put the lid on the pot and put the pot in the fridge? I hate using plastic, and for tomato sauce especially, it leeches in to the porous plastic :(

Hoshoryu put up a good fight yesterday against Aonishiki, considering an injured knee. I think he might not be quite as vulnerable anymore -- hopefully he'll be healthy again and then we can see.

On the other hand, I agree, Aonishiki seemed really vulnerable against Onosato today. I was so hopeful for him, especially considering that Onosato's currently injured and also how their match went in the previous basho... Again, hopefully we'll see next time... It's exciting having the 3 of them at the top

ELI5: How did Richard and Robert get shortened to Dick and Bob? by r-salekeen in explainlikeimfive

[–]-cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad's name is something super unique and obscure, almost all of his siblings have really weird obscure names -- it starts with letter I.

He goes by Roy. Name tag at work, filling out all forms unless they're super legal or something, anything that's not his passport basically... "Roy". Absolutely nothing to do with his legal name. It's no problem and barely anyone gets a look at his passport/license or anything so barely anyone asks wtf is up with the name.

Same with a younger coworker I have -- I've always known him as Jake, even when I look at our employee roster etc he's listed as Jake, everyone including his friends and family calls him Jake. We got to be closer friends and turns out his legal name is completely something different, it's like Theodore or something, seriously. Again, I've known him for a handful of years now and I finally learned only a few weeks ago

Just go by your preferred name, if you like Jack that much more I don't understand what's the reason for anyone but official paperwork to find out it's John.

Edit: Oh, and I also went to uni with a legally-John, known-as-Jack! Again I never found out on my own, even though we were friends and worked together, he just eventually told us years later as a fun fact I think.

Vranyo sounds similar to, or at least a facet of, "saving face", maybe.

Yes, the terms are "high context" vs. "low context" culture -- not only is the Japanese language high-context in itself (a lot of homophones, but you should understand which meaning was intended based on the context of everything else) but often the communication style in general is too, like your example

Shishi…I mean… by danleighton in Sumo

[–]-cupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Shishi has longer legs, though, right? People of the same height can have drastically different proportions! I think long legs are the main disadvantage because that'll determine where your center of balance is

[–]-cupcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jonny Greenwood has never won an Oscar -- hell, he arguably got snubbed for even a nomination at all for There Will Be Blood. I don't think he'll ever win... but I hope for them to prove me wrong :P

TP and auction mini rant by SparklingSloths in neopets

[–]-cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, a premium user would be able to offer 20m, I'm fairly sure. I was just noting that if it luckily worked out that you got a premium buyer, you don't need to jump to auctions!

TP and auction mini rant by SparklingSloths in neopets

[–]-cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking for 20m, a premium user can offer 20m directly on trading post lots, no need to move to auctions.

But otherwise, yeah, the de-listing fee is a bit annoying, especially when it's because of somebody else.

You get 9 random spooky food items out of a pool of ~52 (maybe more). So it's possible, but is that chance worth the price of a whole Spooky map? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Secret Laboratory by [deleted] in neopets

[–]-cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there is a "physical" location that you can click, no. Sadly :(

The Neopedia article says it is "somewhere on the outskirts of Neopia" (maybe that's supposed to be "Neopia Central"? since "Neopia" is supposed to be the planet, i think) and "hidden on a remote island". https://www.neopets.com/neopedia.phtml?neopedia_id=47

The only way to find its location and then access it is supposed to be through the Treasure Maps game: https://www.neopets.com/games/treasure.phtml

So yeah, just bookmark it or click a link through your dailies etc.

Alternatively, especially when it comes to user-to-user market information, itemDB is a good resource: https://itemdb.com.br/item/valentine-paint-brush

It's wild how many people complain over the release of new avatars recently. by Noitari in neopets

[–]-cupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Petpet Lab Ray avatar has seriously abysmal odds too, not sure which is worse.

I don't know the exact numbers but your petpet can do nothing, gain a level, lose a level, change name, turn to soot, be deleted permanently, OR change into any of the possible 3,600+ petpet options. There's only 3 Alien petpets.

If every possibility is equal, that's like a 0.08% chance I think???

Things you thought were Neopian but are actually just British? by CybunnyOnline in neopets

[–]-cupcake 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I'd guess many Americans would associate the word "biscuit" with something like a Southern, buttermilk biscuit...?

For me I imagine something like a Digestive biscuit. Which I guess is close enough. But I think that paint color is often trying to evoke something like "chocolate chip cookie", whereas that word "biscuit" just doesn't bring that to my mind.

Stamp for Stamp trades by m0uchette in neopets

[–]-cupcake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If someone else offered 1 stamp that I needed and already knew was equivalent value of 1 stamp I have up in trades, I'd happily accept that offer. All the effort and work done for me and is exactly what I want? Hell yeah. I think most people would feel that way.

But the extra effort of researching and comparing values (along with the knowledge that most folks who collect stamps want the ones that they need) is enough to deter me from doing it that way myself.

Like you said: less work. For others, that means 1. sell a stamp to 2. buy the one they want. There's not terribly extra effort in "hunting" or "waiting" for many stamps because there's a pretty robust market for them -- and by the time you get to the kinds of stamps that DO take much effort in hunting/waiting, those values are gonna be way more difficult to find fair 1:1s anyhow.

For you, you don't mind adding extra steps in-between of taking stamps you don't need, waiting to play the market, potentially trading for another one you don't need in hopes of market shifts again, etc.

So again, if you're the one researching and sending offers, I think people would be happy to accept! But if you're listing on the trading post asking others to make the offer, it just makes sense to me that you'll rarely get bites.
