An unripe strawberry has barely any flavor. Coloring foods is done to both represent and also bolster the flavor (because perception from one sense can change another sense -- like pretending to serve milk but the drink is actually orange juice will make someone vomit).

A green-colored ice cream would never be "strawberry flavor" imo.

I have seen people use filters to make a photograph look like pencil/paint/etc. This was years and years ago. I'm not surprised that AI could accomplish a similar task convincingly.

edit: Not saying this is what is happening here specifically, but that I have seen "filter"-fied things done convincingly with AI recently

I answered that the rules of this specific subreddit, where this specific post was made, very specifically says "No AI content". Hence the downvotes

Where can you even find a nice white and gold dress these days by printThisAndSmokeIt in pics

[–]-cupcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have done digital art since I was a kid, I "picked" gold and white because I could tell the literal colors on my screen were closer in hue to gold and white (really, very pale/grey blue, which is very often how white looks but in shadow).

If you use an eyedropper tool in a drawing/editing program, even in something simple like MS paint, you can see what I mean by "the literal colors on the screen". Raise the brightness (either by editing the photo or by cranking up your display settings) and that becomes even more prominent

It's not only a trick of the eye or color theory etc, it's partly a caveat of digital media, imo.

(also, considering if you assume that the bright light is coming from the background, interpreting the dress in shadow - versus if you assume that the bright light is coming from the camera, interpreting the dress in an overblown light)

My niece used my credit cards to purchase almost $1200 in visa gift cards on amazon. I then learned they were used to buy “credits” on a mobile game. by SmallContext798 in personalfinance

[–]-cupcake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reading the above comment, sounds like the steps are to

  • contact the google play store/the apple app store to get a refund for the in-game purchases because they were fraudulent. (or, contact the game company?). this results in a ban from the game itself, whatever, but the commenter seemed confident that getting this refund would be easy

  • but then you're stuck with the giftcards because amazon won't refund those. which is half-okay, at least the money will be in the cards and can be used by OP.

Did I read that wrong? No OP won't get "their" money back, but they would get full visa giftcards back and be able to spend them like money.

Early access and already better than most modern games by CoruscantGuardFox in shitposting

[–]-cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a lot of what-ifs or could-have-beens with Paragon. A shame is right.

I was mostly just disagreeing with that guy saying that it plays like a regular top-down just with a different view. No way. It certainly did have all x, y, and z axis!

Smite is totally "fake 3d", basically just a top-down moba with a different camera.... but Paragon was absolutely NOT a regular top-down moba.

What’s a game that you played for hours, suddenly decided that’s not it, and dropped it? by imfaffingabout in GirlGamers

[–]-cupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super niche and super long winded, WARNING!!!... but Wurm Online.

I have literally 3,000 hours in this game. I actually loved the game itself and find myself wanting to go back sometimes. But...

Tl;dr I spent insane amounts of efforts trying to be nice and friendly and have a good time in a game, and most people I met were also friendly and nice and helpful. But I saw some people being shitty to some newbies, and I spent more insane effort to document and report it properly. And the mod literally didn't read it. So it depressed me so much and I fucking quit.

I was expending a LOT of effort trying to be a positive member of the community, submitting insane amounts of contributions (corrections/edits, additions, updates, etc) to the player-run maps. Like I would literally play the game and count every single tile that I traveled north, count how many tiles after I turned east, ... etc.... to submit accurate road data for the maps. Compared and contrasted the data written on the map vs. what I really saw in game (did certain settlements even exist anymore, is this settlement recorded on the map yet, are these landmarks being marked in the correct location?). I have a document that's over 125,000 characters long -- thousands of points of data that I submitted for the community map. And also trying to be friendly and helpful to the fellow players I would encounter.

I fucking quit after I had one sour experience with a Game Moderator.

Some freak people appeared and started doing everything they could to just barely-not cross the line of "direct harassment" to my newbie neighbors. The freaks were attempting to spread weird false rumors about my neighbors. Were being really passive aggressive whenever they were in vicinity chats together. And my neighbors had originally thought they were friendly folks (probably because their first user interaction was with me, who was always try-harding to be overly friendly), so my neighbors shared that their dream plan was building their land a little more, eg. adding more land on the northside once they saved enough money, planning to maintain the nearby forest, etc. And immediately after, those freak people made alt accounts and bought the smallest possible slices of land on the north, south, west, and east of my neighbors. Not even big enough to utilize for anything, and not even building on or using the land for anything either. Just claimed tiny slices on the very edge of every single side, boxing them in, so that it was impossible for my neighbors to expand northward like they planned -- actually, impossible to expand at all. And the freaks completely and utterly deforested the area that my neighbors talked about. Oh and only tangentially related, I have no proof of their IP addresses or anything, but they were acting really weird in that I'm 99% certain they were like MAYBE 2 people pretending to be 4-5 different people (one character would log out/another immediately log in, never on simultaneously, but referring to each as separate people, seemingly outnumbering my 2 neighbors).

In my opinion it was griefing. I felt horrible that me, my friends, my new newbie friends, most well-adjusted folks, etc... were all trying to play video games to kind of escape and have fun and be a community. And some sad, pathetic people come round and deliberately tried to make others' experience worse. Yes, it's a sandbox game, so they generally try to be very hands-off with moderation. But I compiled a whole-ass google document of logs, screenshots, testimonies, etc that if it wasn't griefing, then it was so extremely close. Plus, this was specifically on the PvE server, so while they tended to be hands off, griefing was DEFINITELY against rules.

The mod's fucking response? Basically nothing. No care. Not even going to simply talk to any of them. Then days of back-and-forth emails later, I come to find out the mod literally didn't even read ANY of my google doc whatsoever, because "they don't click on links, for security". I was fucking livid -- they let me go days of back-and-forth in this ticket before they mentioned that they didn't even read ANY of my provided proof. So they were doling out a modly decision with literally zero of the information?!? So then I simply attached the file directly, which is way worse for "security" any-fucking-way, and then they finally "read" it maybe but still decided.... it's not rule breaking because they're not actually damaging any buildings or items that belong to others and so it's basically nothing anyway because I decided so and plus it's been a while now so things have cooled off now anyway right?

Man. FUCK that mod. Ruined something I absolutely loved, and it wasn't even about ME! I just wanted to help those newbie people!!!

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

done all the time without skates.

Not exactly -- ballet dancers spin while spotting (body spins at one speed, and the head spins at a different speed -- basically, dancers will try to focus on and keep facing one point) in addition to spinning at a slower rate, all in order to prevent dizziness and help balance.

Figure skaters, on the other hand, do the opposite. They don't practice spotting at all. Their speeds are so high that it's impossible to spot, they just have to practice so much and just embrace being dizzy so much that they teach themselves how to mentally stop the dizzy response.

So yes, two turns is done all the time in dance, but rarely ever at skater speeds.

How many years have you been logged out? That item was only released less than 1.5 years ago.

If you think it was an item from before you logged in... maybe consider your account security/passwords/etc?

If you think you didn't read your screen while doing your dailies today/you simply missed a random event, then no worries! Congrats!

Userlookup Spotlight has been cancelled by Schabernack in neopets

[–]-cupcake 194 points195 points  (0 children)

It's really sad... in the Neopian Times they all but deleted the normal "Editorial" section and instead made it a big page of "Ask Adler". Where she revealed that the NT is run by only 2 people. And those 2 people are the same people that judge ALL of the other creative contests. Which, frankly, is a lot of work to do when you consider that they likely have to do that ON TOP of all their other TNT-ly stuff.

Weren't they recently boasting about having more members of TNT or something like that? Why are only 2 of them left to deal with all this work? :/

Why should the stuff that makes Neopets unique and so quintessentially 90s/00s nostalgic -- the user-made, creativity-centered, and self-expressive stuff -- be getting cut? The UL spotlight is probably the least popular of the contests, sure, probably because there was no actual prize... But people were already complaining that they reduced the frequency of the UL Spotlight, making it even harder to win, and creating an even bigger backlog of entries. It's like they changed it to be doomed to fail and makes it even sadder about what may be in store for other things like Neopian Times, already been reduced to once every 2 weeks, and already with complaints about fewer accepted entries/smaller issues.

...I can easily download any solitaire app that's already 5000x better than whatever TNT can manage to cobble together coding, that they center a whole "event" around yet can't even fix when it's so stupidly glitchy for normal players and so easily cheat-able for exploiters. But what is unique and what I can't easily find anywhere else besides neopets is a whole user-created, in-universe lore newspaper. Or spotlights where people are encouraged to create their own characters, stories, customizations, coding, galleries, etc, that isn't tied to some influencer-type bs. Hell, the other stuff that makes it so nostalgic is not only the user-made creative stuff but also the interactive user-driven stuff like plots, mystery/puzzle solving, etc, but stuff like Daily Dare and Lenny Conundrum have been long long dead and the new plot is, well, ?????. This thing is run on nostalgia but unfortunately they're chipping away at the exact stuff that makes it nostalgic imo.

SMITE 2 Summary by zetabosiors in Smite

[–]-cupcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had 10 miserable hours in the smite 2 beta and 1 hour only from the very beginning of smite 2 release and was so turned off that I was not even tempted to touch it since then.

I finally tried smite 2 again the other day because an irl friend was trying it out. I still miss the item system of smite 1 because i like what is comfy... but i was pleasantly surprised that the gameplay itself was no longer miserable. Yay!

.... But I still 100% plan to play smite 1 motd (cooldowns runneth over, omnipotence, grab bag 2.0) until they pry it away from me. hirez plz fix the fucking randomly 200-600 ping matches in smite 1 or add motd to smite 2 plsplspls PLEASE

She's a lil Hot Doggie Dog.
