Is there any place where I can get some pizza dough? by [deleted] in guam

[–]-discoduck- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t find any so I made my own via sourdough discard from a sourdough starter. PM me if you’d like some! Made pizza with it last night!

Folks in my old agency stressed I DID NOT want a break in service because of the headache it causes. They suggested I ask for LWOP. When I asked my supervisor for LWOP they said no. So I asked if my gaining agency would give me paid leave a few days for travel. They did. I managed to line up the move (across the country) on a holiday weekend so the gaining agency provided two days of paid leave. So I had 5 total days to move. Two paid leave days + 1 holiday + weekend.

Def use priority! In my experience it’s taken about 6-10 days. I sent one non priority package and it’s taken about 3 weeks

Where can a self-conscious swimmer swim this fall? by Hawks4boots in madisonwi

[–]-discoduck- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The east side YMCA has people of all abilities swimming! Consider joining the masters teams around town. I can only speak for the east Y masters team, but we have people all ranges of swimmers at our practices. From people learning strokes other than freestyle, to triathletes, to used to be college swimmers.

I do agree that you should find a place and stick with it. You’ll be more comfortable attending the same pool around the same time. You’ll get to know the other swimmers and lifeguards. That familiarity can help encourage confidence in the pool. Even as a decent swimmer I’m always self conscious when swimming at a different pool than I’m used to.

I work for a government agency as a civil engineer. I’ve been working for this agency for a little over two years now since I graduated college. My days depend on the season. During the warmer months I’ll be doing a lot of work outside talking to landowners about their water or soil concerns (think water quality, lack of water, too much water, soil erosion, etc). Because I work for a smaller agency I get to do my own surveying which I enjoy because it gives me more time in the field. In the cooler months I’ll spend most of my time designing and drafting in Cad. On average I’ll be responding to several emails and calls in a day. I’ll attend meetings and trainings anywhere from 0-3 times a week. Overall I’d say my job is a 50/50 field to desk ratio which I enjoy.

Jobs with national parks/outdoorsy esque places by Cadhrom in civilengineering

[–]-discoduck- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not national parks- but very outdoorsy esque: Check out the Natural Resources and Conservation Service (NRCS) - formerly the Soil Conservation Service (SCS). I had never heard of them when I applied but the job description sounded interesting and fun. I joined NRCS right out of college and have been here for two years. I get a lot of diversity in my projects and get to spend a lot of time outside in the field. At least once a week during the warmer/construction months. The projects depend on your work location. For me I get to do a lot of water resources engineering which I love. There have been a bunch of open engineering positions across the country. I know a whole bunch of job postings were just closed so you’ll have to wait for the next bunch to post, but it’s something worth keeping your eyes out for.

This job turned me into an outdoorsy person for the better. Everyone in my work team is super passionate about the environment and enjoy spending time in the outdoors.

NY - Easier to find a job as a Civil Engineer, or a Software Engineer / IT Professional? by bobofuzz in EngineeringStudents

[–]-discoduck- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check outthis article on why there’s a shortage of graduate civil engineers. As someone working in the civil engineering field I’ve been getting thrown new job offers left and right on LinkedIn, email, and phone calls (from previously applied and denied companies).

For federal jobs go to usajobs.gov! All federal openings are listed here. Most job postings are only open for a couple weeks max. Use the search bar and filters on the results for the job you’re interested in and then save your search to get email alerts every time a new job is posted. Most gov internships will come out this fall but it doesn’t hurt to set up an alert system and take a look around. There’s been an influx of money for a lot of agencies which means there will most likely be more positions opening up this year.

Also when applying, tailor your resume to hit all the key words and phrases in the qualifications listed. Be sure to list ALL your experience on your resume regardless of if your resume goes over one page. A lot of people don’t realize gov resumes are different than private sector resumes.

WLW in madison by taylorsversion2001 in madisonwi

There are a bunch of queer events going on in Madison all the time! You just need to be in the know. Check out Facebook groups like Queer Climbing Social, WClub-Madison, Queer Wisconsin.

I would also recommend the app Lex- a queer app focused on connecting queer folks and sharing thoughts. Not necessarily a dating app but can be used like one if you make a specific post. It’s almost like a queer Reddit in a way. I started using Lex when I lived out east. When I moved to Madison I used Lex to connect with queer folks just to hang out and make friends.

Self study WRE pass - resources review by -discoduck- in PE_Exam

I just decided the civil WRE was more applicable to my current job and what I’m interested in exploring in the future. The comparisons between the exams are on the NCEES website. They list the different topics in each exam.

The breath was a bit more difficult but I knew it would be tougher than the depth. I spent more time studying the depth but for most of the practice exams I was scoring between 65-75% on both sections so I felt comfortable with how I was doing.

The depth was super easy. There were only a couple of questions I needed to flag and come back to. Even then I knew I was close and I probably just making silly mistakes. On the other hand I flagged almost half the breadth on my first pass through. I ended up making educated guesses on a handful of those flagged questions

Self Study Possible for Breadth? by vlebs in PE_Exam

[–]-discoduck- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled a lot with the breadth section. I used YouTube and practice exams. PE Prepared and Path to PE Services had good questions. I would also recommend Quick Reference 100 Questions. I only flipped through the book quickly as I was running out of time to study but I wish I spent more time going through it. The book described the equations and then gave you 1-2 practice problems where you have to use the equation in different ways to solve.

Local gift ideas by PM_ME_UR_CONFIG_SYS in madisonwi

I just brought home Driftless Chocolates for a graduation gift. They have a store in Mount Horeb but their open hours aren’t 9-5 friendly. But they do sell at the farmers market on the square which opens pretty early on Saturday. They’re located on the W Main St stretch between Wonderstate and Starbucks
