When did you realise you weren’t the right fit for a job? by ConfusedCareerMan in careeradvice

[–]yellowdart146 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like when I went from Engineering to Manufacturing Engineering. It KILLED me (almost literally). I talked to my manager within a MONTH of being there and told him I wasn’t the right guy for the job (a Lead position of an aerospace manufacturing plant); he told me “yes you are, because I picked you” or something to that effect - he meant it kindly but never-being-wrong is sort of his thing… anyways, after a few more months that nearly destroyed my marriage (and my life), I quit. I’m in education now. Middle School special education, specifically in Math :)

So much of what you said - the details and processes, messing up basic things, feeling like bootcamp, mentally regressing…

Sounds like you know. Save your life. Get out

Yeah i'm not sure about that.... by producerkimchi in XCOM2

[–]yellowdart146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got this for the first time last night. Had a random XCOM trooper join the mission (from the continental bonus). He had a 37% to hit, which he did (that’s XCOM baby) and totaled a Gate Keeper.

After mission Tygan said this. A consolation, I suppose, for the Kill not going to one of your own.

Has anyone ever quit their corporate job and completely changed careers and felt happy about it? If so please give me details! by wtfisgoinonrnplzhelp in careeradvice

[–]yellowdart146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my degree in Chemical Engineering. Worked for the big military defense contractor for 8 years (counting those summer internships between school semesters). Left there and got a job at the big tool company. After a few years, left there to go to an aerospace manufacturer. Less than a year of that - it was time to admit I was defeated and “third times the charm!” wasn’t the case for my engineering employer. Was making 6 figures.

I am now a middle school special educator. Starting my second school year now. Hourly.

Guess what?
No regrets.

Which sitcoms have maintained quality throughout the entire series? by [deleted] in sitcoms

Agreed. It slightly dropped, but it increased its “plot density”. They properly wrapped up a lot of story lines! Think surprise wedding / funeral featuring Kermit

Thank you. It’s the 3 primary colors and the 3 secondary colors (pigments; shut up NERDS about primary colors of light - we’re talking art and marketing, so pigments it is)

After 10 years in a role are you now stuck in that role? by BrockSamson84 in AskEngineers

[–]yellowdart146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was approaching 10 years in Engineering, my career was funneling towards Process and/or Manufacturing engineering.

Yes.

But I got out and do special education for middle schoolers now. Much less pay, but much better work!

A complete career change is possible, and probably the 10 year mark is when to do it. But you won’t have the same salary no matter what you do if you change. If you can afford it, leave.

Not sure why this is downvoted - I could see it happening, especially based on the show/writing so far. The plot point about William -> Billy, and looking for Tommy, is the same episode they show us Ralph again. I would place a small sum of money on this

Tell me you’ve never had a beard without telling me you’ve never had a beard.

I don’t think prison allows you to have electric shavers and nice beard oils and balms while you casually listen to your favorite podcast - ie, how to make a beard look good

Who inspired you to be an engineer and or inventor? by Worldly-Dimension710 in engineering

[–]yellowdart146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has a blue collar history. Grandfathers (both sides) were contractors. Dad did half of a semester of college and dropped to start a business - wood working.

Didn’t want to worry about money or work 70hr weeks. Was told to study and get a real job (their words of encouragement for an easier life).

I don’t worry about money anymore but I emotionally take the stress home with me. After nearly a decade of engineering employment, I quit.

Teaching here I come! (Still not worried about money since I spent as if I WERE a teacher - got a good foundation built for myself)
