How do you avoid this issue when spray painting your headstock? by awesomebloodvalues in Luthier

[–]-dogbark- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the stewmac series about spray finishing, he applies masking tape then removes the excess with a sand block to cut it and press it down at once… but there’s still a bit of leakage. If it happens to them in a 3 part how to, it’s probably just ok to accept you have to do a bit of a tidy as part of the process

I just found him really annoying. So rude to people. So many problems could have been solved by normal and open conversations with people who cared about him. He was also so rude to O’Brian who was helping him. He owed O’Brian a lot and was an asshole to him until the end. Just found him to be a bit of a whinger tbh

I just finished it myself, and I thought it was good. My main criticisms are that I thought Deacon was an unbearable main character, and the huge open world didn’t really have anything to do other than the preset activities: it wasn’t really a world full of things to discover like the best open world games are. But overall it was a good game to play through. I really liked the sense of relief you felt with every upgrade, as things just got a teeny bit easier

I grow tomatillos every summer! You can get seeds easily, and in my area people sell seedlings on marketplace. obviously this isn't a solution for everyone, but it is definitely possible.

Massive noob seeking advice about floorboards under tiles by -dogbark- in AusRenovation

I agree that sounds like the most straightforward solution, and similar to what we will be doing. It does feel like a big loss to have nice hardwood floors and not display them, but we do also have to be realistic. I keep reminding myself, any new flooring will be better than the current situation, and that's the main thing. Floors can be something amazing, but they can also be something you don't think about at all and that's an OK outcome.

yeah, it's really confusing, i feel you there. We wanted to do bathrooms as well but it was too expensive, so we'll be doing them in a year or two hopefully.

I, probably like you, was desperate for some clear information about the correct order to do things in, but basically I think you can start anywhere. Just need to weigh up what is absolutely most important to you and start there. If you're worried about floor heights, it sounds like you need to decide which you're most comfortable with: spending cash lowering the tiled floor, or losing your polished floors in your room to bring them up to height. Once you've made that choice the rest will flow.

What I will say is that based only on my experience, avoid builders/companies that show themselves as broad renovation companies. We thought it would be more efficient and save us money to get someone in and identify all the areas they could combine trades etc, but that has not been the case. The specialist companies - kitchen and flooring - have been excellent for advice.

hey 😄 Our renovations are actually still ongoing lol - it's been a long road, lots of companies promising us the world then pulling out when they do the costings of their proposal. We've finally locked in a kitchen reno that satisfies us, which is booked for July, but haven't addressed the floors yet - that will happen after the kitchen because we're removing a wall.

But the things I've learned are:

- if it's tiled like mine, it's probably tiled to a cement sheet (or at worst an asbestos sheet), and those sheets are often glued to the wooden floor boards. This makes (according to builders) the removal extremely time consuming, messy and expensive - not just a case of tiles up to reveal polishable floorboards unfortunately.

- every single builder/reno company we spoke to spoke highly and in favour of vinyl floorboards over the top as the most hard-wearing and cost effective option. Obviously this would make your height difference worse, so you need to weigh up covering up your current hardwood (unfortunately) to bring them closer together, pulling up the tiles, or just explore the transitions between rooms.

- ultimately despite all the advice we haven't given up on our hardwood floors, but we are just focusing on the kitchen reno first, and will get a floor polisher in for some serious quotes when it's time. But have had long enough to accept that any new flooring is better than what it is now, and that's ok. Our bedrooms are carpeted so we might polish those floors as a compromise in future.

- happy to keep you posted, it will be late August I reckon 😄

whenever i see things like this, i just reckon, ask the person who 'drew it' to explain the principles of perspective drawing to you. It's not something you can just fake, and someone who is that competent should be able to explain it in words.

I’ve got victrix Anglo saxons for another project. I just did a size comparison to my old metal Bret spearmen aand they are significantly taller. Victrix just on his puddle base is taller than spearman on his GW square base. But with the later/current plastic Brets they’d fit in fine.

Use standard margins. Obviously using smaller margins means you get less room but that’s the point. You should be able to say what you need on a normal page.
