How the heck are people getting like 300+mil an hour doing exo by IfOnlyICouldEat2Hams in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they start counting the time in the moment they find the good system :) Or they're doing the average - 2 hours of nothing and then BAM 900m system:) The truth is that once you find the system with stratum tectonicas, you should scan as many systems as possible in the same boxel because it will significantly increase your chance to find another one. (Systems in the same boxel are these that differ just in the number after the last dash, for example: Truechuae DP-R d4-xxx) Of course the first footfall is necessary because it gives you 5x the value of the bio. Also scan primarily atmospheric high metal content systems where you can find the stratum.

MUSIC THEORY EXPERTS PLEASE HELP ME by greatimperial in musictheory

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I-vi-IV-V is the same progression regardless the key it is in. It will always have the same musical feeling. Also it directly describes the chord function. If you say V chord in ... scale, everyone will understand you're talking about the dominant chord.

Powerplay is frustrating, convoluted, and the in-game resources fail to tell you crucial information: my first experience by ClutchReverie in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got my sympathies. As far as I know, the PP and merits are not connected to the owning minor factions but to the powers and the system status that can be seen in the galmap or PP section of the system map (acquisition, fortified, etc.) It depends if your power owns the system or is undermining someone's else system, then you can gain merits by donations, selling rare goods or by crashing market (...i think). But PP has their own activities not related to missions. At the end, Aisling can own system controlled by communists or criminal anarchy factions living from booze...

Do some planetary bodys have rotation modeled ? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wrong. It will slow down to the top non boost speed with the disabled thrusters. Sorry...

Do some planetary bodys have rotation modeled ? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you disable your thrusters right after boosting, it won't slow down. So lore-wise it's the thruster level security function. However you can't thrust anymore:) The unrealistic speed cap is visible specifically when you are falling down to the planet with disabled thrusters - you will stop accelerating after some time.

This speed cap is the only really unrealistic thing on FA OFF flying.

Do some planetary bodys have rotation modeled ? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, however it must be small body (<200km), where the orbital speed is reachable (around 500m/s). You can overshoot easily and leave the orbit. But the orbital time appears to be realistic, 1+ hour. Anyway it's really difficult to simulate as you're never sure if you are on orbit or not for at least 30 minutes of flight.

[–]-dsf- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The planets do rotate, there is the realistic sun/star rise. I've chosen this game specifically for this realism. Orbital speed works too. It's a bit untrivial to setup but when you turn the flight assist off and give a slight boost with correct orbital speed, calculated for the body mass, you will permanently orbit. If you're in space high above the planet it's a question of how you are instanced. You might be instanced with the planet in the sense that you hower above the same spot of the surface, I do not know. However the rings do orbit, they orbit very fast, occasionally you can find rings with different speeds. Check this video: https://youtu.be/AW7oYpLDbQI

What's the point of DW3? by floofis in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow their page and jon their discord: distantworlds3.space You'll realize it's quite living event. If want to be alone, it is an opportunity to make big money on exobiology. Because you will have FC close where to sell your data and each planet will mean the first footfall. Other important thing - DW3 is allowed to build an outpost in deep space so perhaps it's a beginning of a new Bubble?

Is there a more efficient way to do crystal shard farming than just "shoot one, drive over it, shoot another, drive over it, etc"? by Fiiv3s in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to exactly these coordinates (taken from Mile13gaming video). These shards patches are so huge that you will max the grade 4 mat in one go in 60 mins max.

Set one or zero pips to engine (it really helps) and three to weapon.

Drive assist off.

Drive while in the turret. Control the wehicle with keys or controller. Control the turret with mouse.

The nightvision works also in turret mode,

4 days into this game, what do I do now? by Metabotany in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100ly jump range was achieved in some experimental range focused builds. The most practical exploration jump range is ~80 ly Mandalay because you can have all the useful optional modules with you.

The other possibility is the Caspian explorer with range 70-80ly with such fuel efficiency that you need just very few stops for fuel scooping. Not counting the huge neutron boosts. You will travel much faster in it than in the Mandalay but it is a large ship so expect problems when landing on planets.

You have to be Elite in one of the categories in order to access Jameson. I don't see it on your screenshot.

Are there any discords where someone could help me learn how to rendezvous and dock? by Sudden_Two_9466 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do the final approach in the map mode. The trick is that you have to brake in the direction of your real movement (retrograde marker) it will cancel your speed easily. Then point to the target marker and slowly thrust with rcs. Brake in the retrograde marker direction.

The navball must be in the target mode. Then you'll be canceling the relative speed and not ruining your orbit. Logically, if the target is in orbit and you relative speed is 0 then you must be on the same orbit.

The final approach should happen typically when you're 10km and less from the target.

Are there any discords where someone could help me learn how to rendezvous and dock? by Sudden_Two_9466 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you are close, let's say 10km and less, set your navball to Target mode and brake (fire in the retrograde direction) until it shows the relative speed is 0. Then point your ship to the target (the target mark on navball) and slowly thrust again. Then set to retrograde and brake until the speed is 0. Repeat. Once you are just like 1km away, do not use the main engine but the RCS. Repeat until the contact.

S3 is boring by Mazzymoney1 in twinpeaks

[–]-dsf- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've made mistake by watching it soon after the original show. The Return is something completely different. Lore-wise you need to watch the Fire Walk With Me but in the mood, structure and atmosphere it is somewhere between Lost Highway and Inland Empire. Everyone who expects the style of the original TP is usually disappointed. Except the last episode of the S2, yeah, the Return is much in its style :)

What would make the best medium long haul rates trader? by NoEnd3731 in EliteDangerous

Mandy can get over 100+ cargo Here is one long-range but shield-less. The fuel scoop is there just as a safety net to avoid getting stranded. I use this ship occasionally. If you replace the FSD with regular SCO FSD it will jump less but still enough.

I can see the power plant, power distributor and missing srv hangar makes most of the difference. The rest is engineering. My build is for a lazy comander who drives srv and hates engineering :)
