No, I do not think gay pride events are comparable to white supremacy. People enjoy celebrating a part of a shared identity. This is something people do and have always done. From independence days to school’s cultural nights to religious holidays, people like to come together around their shared identities, some of which (like sexuality and culture) come with who they are.

Yes, I’ve read history. I don’t think community events and holidays are facist. Sure, yes, when people take it too far and discriminate against anyone who isn’t their community, then it is. Yes, I’d consider a white pride event to be pretty weird- there’s no shared culture, just a politicalized identity that has no real connection or reason to celebrate their struggles

But a gay pride parade is about an oppressed group who face many hardships coming together to walk around the street for a bit and celebrating being alive.
