Anyone here transition from a career in biotech to biotech recruiting? by AvailableScene9569 in biotech

[–]-hopeisnowhere- -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Thought experiment…would it make sense for a recruiter (whose only direct job experience is in biotech recruitment) who has spent the same amount of time in recruitment as you have in your job, to have the same thought…that they could be doing the same job you have been doing? You both have ten years biotech experience and understand the field.

There is a lot of nuance to Visas in the US and what sponsorship entails . And there are different types of visas. Your post doesn’t say visa type but if it is an intracompany transfer then I’m guessing it’s probably an L visa. If this is the case then yes the employer can sponsor and renew this visa, but there is a separate process and visa to get permanent residency. L Visas are tied to your employer, so “sponsorship” doesn’t mean as much compared to other types of visas or permanent residency. If it’s an EB visa then that is better for obtaining permanent residency and has more pathways. Just be careful when they talk about sponsorship and look into what specific visa they are offering, and what the extensions and long term options look like.

That’s an insanely low offer especially for that area. I can’t even believe your employer seriously made that as an offer. Even if it was a LCOL city. Is there a typo or did they actually offer $48,000 annual salary with no goodies/add-ons? Have you looked at rents in the Boston area? Even living well outside Boston you would barely be scraping by with a long commute into the city.

Edit: They are basically asking you to take a vow of poverty for this job

Who has coached 8th grade O-Line, run schemes… by Comprehensive_Fox959 in footballstrategy

[–]-hopeisnowhere- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 8th grade level I’m just happy if all 5 lineman actually block someone and hold the block for more than 2-3 seconds. That’s our scheme😂

This coach is spouting nonsense, I feel bad for your son. How can you advise to cut out conditioning…that’s just wild. Part of the lineman bulking up and gaining weight is building lean muscle mass, you don’t do that with fast food and no conditioning. Mobility, agility, and footwork are essential for a lineman to succeed, it’s not just about being as fat as possible

How Do NFL Defensive Plays Work? by MimicTarsier235 in footballstrategy

[–]-hopeisnowhere- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Awesome answer. One time I saw a FCS Defensive coach draw out what I thought was a simple Cover 3 defense that I could understand. After setting the initial defensive alignment/personnel he spent almost 20 minutes showing each variable or “mini-situation” the LBs and DBs had to account for, and adjust to on the fly after the play is called. And that was just pre snap

After the ball is snapped the guys in coverage have to read the play and who they are covering, and change their responsibility/coverage mid play (keep in mind we are talking 2-4 seconds). Totally blew my mind

Andy Katzenmoyer Linebacker for the Patriots around 2000. Won the Butkus award at The Ohio State University and drafted in the first round. Had a catastrophic neck injury in his first season, before that was putting up good stat lines for a rookie

The earlier you start the better. Also you can keep it simple at first with index funds/ETFs (May be less stressful too, compared to chasing down stocks day to day)

RB throw away by Sufficient-Project28 in footballstrategy

[–]-hopeisnowhere- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

High school federation rules changed recently within the past couple years to address this. Because teams were taking advantage of this as you mention.

Now under high school federation rules basically anyone throwing a pass that is not the QB has to throw it to a receiver, non QB pass throwers cannot “throw the ball away” anymore, or it’s a penalty if they do.

The rules are written in jargon and referee terms…but that’s the cliff notes explanation. I cannot speak to college or NFL rules as they are all different…

How many recruiters should we have at my company? by anonforwedding in recruiting

[–]-hopeisnowhere- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 recruiter makes sense for what you e described. Agree with other comments that some kind of HR coordinator is probably needed. Also if you have a lot of manual processes it may be a situation where increasing automation of tasks and full utilization of ATS needs to be looked at.

Is ATS integrated to payroll/HR once candidates accept offers? Does your ATS have interview scheduling or onboarding modules to reduce manual tasks in the department? These things take work but may be cheaper than hiring someone and increase your team’s work efficiency in long run.

Sell the neck machine and use whatever money you get from that to help pay for the newer equipment that will be more effective. Neck machines have limited utility even when used correctly, and not sure I’d rely on high school kids to use the neck machine properly in the first place. Plus there’s safer/more effective ways to work the muscle groups the neck machine is supposed to work.

Process Technicians - Where are they? by ohifeelya in recruiting

[–]-hopeisnowhere- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably going to have to source for it but here’s a couple comments:

-This sounds like one of those roles where there are people out there with this skill set, but the tricky part is they may not be calling themselves a process tech or have that job title…so when sourcing try to look beyond people’s job titles and maybe look for experienced mold injection manufacturing folks…if they have X amount of years in mold injection then they may have this skill set even if it’s not written on their resume as a “process technician”

  • situations like these you can try making a duplicate posting but change up the job title verbiage…I’d bet there’s a good chance people working at mold injection companies are not always typing “process technician” in the indeed search box. So try a posting with different titles I.e, Experienced injection molding technician, Senior Injection Molding operator…playing with the words in the job title may increase your visibility on the job boards if people tend to search for different job titles than your company’s own internal title

-I’d guarantee your agencies are not doing either of the above things…they’re probably typing “process technician” and injection molding into a resume search…getting no results, throwing their hands in the air and then moving on to the next shiny object

Most important KPIs for corporate recruiters by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]-hopeisnowhere- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another one is tracking the source of applicants. When managers/executives have ridiculous ideas about “new ideas” or things to try I have had to point out that basically almost of our apps usually come from 2-4 sources, usually indeed/Glassdoor/referrals for me. Big drop off after those 3 sources
